2006 SCCA Solo News

From SCCAForums:
As 2006 approaches, we know that you are all anxiously awaiting any news that will help you make plans for next season. First, this is going to be the forum for all of our announcements, so please spread the word and feel free to post any text you find here on other bulletin boards so we can reach as many folks as possible.
If you are reading this, you are probably already aware that class information for 2006 is posted here on scca.com under Garage.
Good news for everyone! There will be no ProSolo license requirement for 2006. There will be only a slight increase in entry fees to offset this loss of revenue. We hope this will encourage a lot of folks to enter more than one event.
No more indexing for F125! F125's have achieved enough entries to have their own class in 2006. Hope to see lots more of you out there.
More good news-Bob Tunnel will be returning as ProSolo Chief Steward. We continue to appreicate Bob's wise counsel and the personal sacrifices that he makes to give back to the sport.
We are feverishly working on the 2006 schedule. A little over half of our sites and dates are confirmed and we will publish the schedule as soon as it is a little more settled. Several of our sites are making improvements that will give us more space. The first event of the year will be the Ft. Myers National Tour, February 18 & 19. As usual, we will have a Pro and a Tour in Southern California in March, but cannot yet confirm which weekends. Other venues you can plan on will be Pro's in Atwater and Packwood and Tours at Devens, Packwood and Little Rock. Little Rock and Packwood really put themselves on the map in 2005 by showing they know how to host an event. Support, cooperation and enthusiasm for hosting events next year has been outstanding from all our regions. A big thanks to all of you!!!!
w00t! No ProSolo License! I always thought that was a waste. Now, it's just a matter of getting registered before the event fills up.
Devens Tour again... nice. ;)

I am just glad they have a Ft. Myers event this year, which I will be able to make it too. Makes it a little easier on us South Florida boys.

DC and New England are part of the North East Division. They have only one tour per Division every year. The problem with NEDIV is NY and NJ. Those on one side don't travel to the other side to go to events.
Just as when DC held the events, only a handful from New England Region went to it... and it REALLY sucked when it was on that holiday weekend when DC was pretty much booked in 2004... same goes with those from DC coming up here.. although about 4 years ago, it was more common for people from DC to go to Devens... why?
The tours were at Devens in 2001, 2000, 1999 & 1997 and that's as far back as I can find on the net (it preceeds my time with the SCCA). 2002 went to Rome which was going to be the host for a couple years (their last one was 1998), but the Rome Site shut its doors to Soloing and they had to scramble to find a suitable site... Devens was unavailable.. so the next suitable location was DC.
So one thing I can say.. is it's nice to have the Tour back at home. :)
Devens: 2005, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1997....
DC: 2004, 2003
Rome NY 2002, 1998.

Don't anticipate a DC Tour. DC Region (and Autocrossers, Inc) don't want to have to deal with that debacle again. We might do a ProSolo, but a Tour is not very likely, unless Philly Region or ODR hosts it.

I'm really anxious for the National Tour schedule to be up. I'm going to actually try and make a few this year, will be co-driving in STX.
Houston, Peru, Walnut Ridge, or Toledo would be best for me! :p

A DC Pro would be fine with me just so there is some national event that is near one of the most densely populated regions of the country. It makes sense to have big events near where lots of people live, I can understand having lots of events in SoCal but I just don't understand why there is one a tour in Arkansas other than that they have a good site and people to run it.
DC and New England are part of the North East Division. They have only one tour per Division every year.
KC, are you referring to only one Tour per NEDiv? Or only one Tour per Division for any Division? Because Toledo and Peru are both in CenDiv, and yet they've each had a Tour for about the last 3 years.
I just don't understand why there is one a tour in Arkansas other than that they have a good site and people to run it.
Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner folks! Having a good site and people to run an event is vital. A lot of people are willing to drive a long way to a great event.

I think Peru has always been kind of a special case event in regards to both the tours and pros that occur there. I know in the past few years the Pros were run without an actual region hosting the event.
I'd rather drive to Arkansas to do an event than DC any day.

not to mention the AK event, while not really close to anyone per se, is considerably closer than any of the 'coast' events for the middle 3/5ths of the country, that tends to have fewer events than the coasts, and was seriously neglected by PS this past year

The only one different has been the CENDIV one with Peru/Toledo... yet Toledo is what.. 2-3 years old? It's still a youngun as far as sites go.
There was always complaints about Peru (surface) and no one to really run it... so was it run more out of tradition or was it run based on 'needing another "east coast" event' and that location is more centrally located that more people can get to.

Well the Kentucky region has run the Peru tour the last few years. Most of those guys are from Louisville. The Pro was run by a group of mostly Chicago guys, but the Chicago region didn't host it. That was one of the reasons they didn't run the pro there last year.
The surface at Peru is probably going to be it's demise in the near future. It was the most similar surface to running at nationals but with the move to asphalt I don't see the event being nearly as popular.

I have to say I enjoyed Peru the most out of any national level event I attended this year (AKA ever. . .). I loved the concrete, I loved the courses, and the people. I would make the 9+ hour drive there again in a heart beat if they offered another national event there.
I'd just know this time not to speed on that main road at ALL or i'd get a ticket :furious: .

In 2005 I think the Peru Tour was just run by Paula Whitney and some other random volunteers. I don't think any region was in charge of any of it.

Well, all the important people live close to there!
Seriously, I think Jeff got it right. While it's not very close for anybody, it's within reasonable distance for a lot of people who don't have many other events close to them. The site is great, and the region did a fabulous job putting on the event this year. It was particularly impressive how people came out to watch (and ask questions about the sport), and city officials were around. The city even sent a small present to all the class winners (?) after the event. It was nice to really feel welcome at an event, and seeing people in the area getting excited about it.
So yes, I'm very happy to hear that they're on the calendar again next year, and I think it's very well deserved.

Well there will be no national Toledo events, at least at the airport.
Once again we've lost a site to Daimler-Chrysler, to park there crap on. Toledo is basically a parking lot for them anyways. :furious:
We're looking for other sites, but you all know how that goes.
Ya to even more travel money this year. I guess I shouldn't complain but it sucks.

Sweet, another AK event!
FYI, we have a Dallas event tenatively set up in Mid may! It's actually about 70ish miles west of dallas. But you get the point.

Oh no! Is that certain? I hope they find a good site somewhere that isn't much farther. I had never made it to Toledo yet, but I was looking forward to finally run there next year.
We had the same problem with Daimler-Chrysler using one of our local lots to store their extra minivans. Why don't they just stop making crappy vehicles that nobody wants to buy? :furious:

I'd like to see the national office get out of the SRT deal citing this as a large reason. Doubtful given the $$$ coming in....but it would send a message anyway.

I just don't get why DC continues to manufacture, when they aren't selling?? IIRC, this is the second lot in the last 2 years that NWOR (Toledo region) has lost because Daimler-Chrysler outbid them, because they needed a place to store all the Jeeps they were building but not selling. I mean, I know the UAW has a stranglehold on American manufacturers, but I find it stunning that they would continue to spend the money to manufacture vehicles that don't sell. And then have to turn around and spend money to store those vehicles that don't sell.

Sadly this is the truth
TheWRX - It is certain......lets hope it is just for the '06 season and not a permanent thing.

Prosolo, we did some testing out at Mineral Wells a couple weeks ago. Minus the X-mas tree, everything went smoothly. Had two 45 second courses, utilizing about maybe %40 of the entire lot.
Gerry stated that we had a date at or around May 18-19th.
