pretty insane cage... but it had to be up to spec according new SCCA Cage rules - still i think Dave got a little too carried away!

Rally Saturday... we'll find out eh? ;)

ChrisW 02-25-2003 11:31 AM

huh.... guess those rear seats are not to usable anymore.

Do you have to leave them in for the class rules?

 how the heck did you get the back seat in the car?

looks great!

hey there...
no... not useable any longer...
and yes... the interior panels and seats have to go back in per the class rules....

how did we get em back in the car?
ahhhhhhh that's a secret of the rally gods
twist and mangle them into place ;)

Do the front support bars go down through the dash?
Subie Gal 02-25-2003 12:15 PM

yep sure does...

dash had to come completely off....
be modified to fit around the cage....
and reinstalled :)

Jamie,
You should make some "grocery bags" from cardboard and detail them, mount them in the back off the bars or something.

:D

You need one of these too:

Paul G.<--loves his grocery getter..
It kills me that some of your interior pieces are in better shape than mine.
Subie Gal 02-25-2003 12:32 PM

Thought about the grocery bags...
but somehow i think the

baby on board sticker is going to be so much more appropriate - in sooooo many ways :D  i hear, once upon a time, they put one on Richard Burns' car too... hehehehee....

Jamie
paultg 02-25-2003 12:36 PM

Are you having a baby? :D

Paul G. <--how quick will it take for this to get out of hand and all over the site. I say, 30 min. :)
Subie Gal 02-25-2003 12:39 PM

erm... NO... i'm not having one...

but the whole "wagon grocery getter" thing...
coupled with my rally day temper tantrums? ;)

make that sticker more than appropriate :D
TimStevens 02-25-2003 12:39 PM

/me remembers a joke thread from awhile back... ;)

:D heheheheee that was funny
paultg 02-25-2003 12:43 PM

O, I get it now.

Paul G. <-- a bit slow, but not at an autox.. ;)
Dobes 02-25-2003 01:45 PM

I think only body mounting points count, not every single joint in the cage. Yours looks like a 9 or 10 point cage if that's the case.

JD
Subie Gal 02-25-2003 02:14 PM

nope... that's straight from the horses (Dave Clark's ) mouth...

29 point...

it's connected in more areas than you think ;)

not just the major points....

I've never heard of anyone counting each indiviual weld to the A and B pillars or roof as a 'point' before. Just a thought.

Saw this cage last Saturday and it was very impressive. I wonder if Dave could do a similar cage in my street car just so I could feel like a bad ass?:p
Subie Gal 02-25-2003 04:23 PM

hehehee i dunno if you'd WANT one in your street car ;)

i'll take ya for a ride...
talk about STIFF... :p

not something i'd want to drive everyday...
but on rally weekends... yeah baby

Jamie
pio!pio! 02-25-2003 04:26 PM

does the cage extend into the engine bay? (ie onto the strut towers or beyond)
Subie Gal 02-25-2003 04:29 PM

good question.
No... for the "PGT" version of this car we did not break through the fire wall. Eventually, if the car ever goes "open" we may add a few bars here and there... (engine bay, roof support)

The strut tops in the engine bay are however, reinforced with a thick sheet of steel that has been welded atop them...

no strut tower bar or additional front bracing at this time.

:)

You need to get a trunk monkey and string him up on the cage in the back...
sirfrankwilliams 02-25-2003 09:22 PM

Your new rally car is so cool!
I've loved wagons since long before there was such a thing as a 'sport wagon'. So I was stoked to see you landed a wagon for PGT. [drool] I say its about time someone showed the world that wagons kick ass, and you're just the person!

(what became of last year's car?)
Pete 97 GS-T 02-25-2003 09:34 PM

That's got more bars in it than Alcatraz!

Very nice cage...:) It's amazing how some people work under pressure (my co-driver, fabricator does it too) to make it to race day.

Especially like the door bars, they look very stout.
The blue paint is a nice touch (that wasn't done for Doo Wops 1&2 was it?).;)

Should be some good mud slinging this weekend.:D

The updated entry list looks much better than last weeks'...

See you Saturday. :disco:
Subie Gal 02-26-2003 04:49 PM

yeah we just got the paint work done...
and a few other 100 things ;)

doo wops 3/4 is looking the bizz....
really looking forward to it :D

see u soon!
