Phil and I are currently signed up for the Subaru Challenge.
However, we're now considering going to Chris's memorial service. I had only had a chance to talk to Chris a few times, but I could see that he was a great guy. Like most of the solo community, I am still in shock. Paula is a wonderful woman - in fact, she is one of the reasons that I plan to return to L2, instead of going to STX. Paula and Jennifer Meredith always manage to make me smile, calm me down, and get me dancing, no matter how nervous I might have been prior to showing up in grid. I can't imagine what Paula and Chris's family are going through right now. There's obviously nothing I can do to actually take away their pain. But perhaps I can help show them that they have friends who care about them...

Probably because its not part of the mid-atlantic/southeast SOA region.
Contact someone at Subaru's western region and see if they'll put something on...I'm sure there's plenty of interest in the area to support one.

There were a TON of people losing it at the end of the slolam (sp?). The sand going into the skid really messed with a lot of the modified cars.

Storm, I was the silver RS sedan parked 2 cars down from you. Your RS was a joy to watch. How did you end up doing against the other cars in your group? I would have liked to have had 2 or 3 more runs seeing that it was my first auto-x. I was finally getting comfortable out there when bam, my time was up.

Glad you enjoyed it! I hope I helped the couple folks (I rode with) get addicted to this autocross thing. I know I didn't ride with you....did you have any instruction from Larry Fine or one of the other guys helping novices? As long as you had fun, it was a success!
As for my performances.....well, like I said....I thought I had an afternoon session to dial-in the car and lay down some good (semi-serious) runs. Alas, our 70F+ shock settings were like ice at <50F. We really needed to reset the suspension for things being so cold. I was having so much fun pushing the limits....I wanted to see how far I could go and still save it, but it cost me big time against the watch. I was hauling passengers too for wild rides. There really was another 2-3 seconds out there if I would have softened the car up and drove for time instead of style points. I finished 4-5th in STi-M where we asked to be classed, but would've won Sub-M (I think). They should've had a "most entertaining run" plaque...... :)
Only 2 people came up to ask if we had an STi swap in the car......that's an improvement in itself. Probably shoulda ran the "NOTAWRX" plates!
What a blast to just cut loose and flail the car around like that without really worrying about standings, contingencies, points, etc.... The weather coulda been better, but overall I think it was a good event. There's room for improvement having attended a Southeast Region Subie challenge last year. Perhaps next year we'll see another event earlier in the season!

I was one of those people that asked. A friend of mine who is a pretty experienced auto-x'er rode with me through the first run and my brother rode with me through the next 2.
Finishing 4th or 5th in STiM is a heck of an accomplishment when you started with an NA 2.5L where all the other drivers had a FI 2.5L at their disposal. :)

We had fun even with the timing problems and crummy weather. It's cool to see people who normally don't run autocrosses come out to give it a try. I hope they come back.
Ran FTD, except for that bothersome cone that I fessed up to. The one on my second run I punted a ways, the one on my third run I just nicked. Not sure about the whole 6 classes thing but it worked out pretty well. Kind of fun to just be WRX Mod and race against a bunch of people instead of the 2 that would have been in STX. Jen beat me which she is very happy about. Wish the timer hadn't flipped out and we had gotten a real time instead of a stop watch time so I could know where I actually fell in the picture.
There are advantages to having your Evo I school at Beaver in the rain. To me the grip when it was 43 degrees and dry felt WAY better than it did when it was 55 and pouring rain and since the course was basically an Evo Phase I course without the crossover I felt l knew it pretty well before the first drive.

I was amazed how well my Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S tires hooked up out there. After running bald KDWS for half the season and RE92s for the other half, these tires were a real eye opener (and still all seasons). I'm really looking forward to getting a dedicated set of summer tires next season.
I hope this gets a lot more people into autocross. I would really like to have an actual class at North Park rather than just two or three of us in DS.
Standings were a little messed up on the sheet that I saw. They had me as 3rd in WRX stock, but the time they used was the run where I went slightly off course at the end. My next fastest run would have put me a close 4th. I really think I could have gotten it down a bit more with a couple more runs, I was just getting used to the levels of grip that my tires gave me.

Holy shat was it cold there, but it was a good time none the less. All of the cold tire runs where fun to watch and thankfully Jay Storm ran in the sti mod class instead of the suby mod class so I could win by .02 seconds.

I recognized your car immediately when I got there. It looks even better in the flesh than the pics. What time did you end up running to win SubM?

I had a lot of fun as well. I'd like to see the overall standing and such.
I got an email saying I won the plaque for most improved (12.2 seconds). haha

Q- I think I got a 30.077 on my last run.

I had a good time. It was dissappointing that my otherwise stock WRX had to run in mod simply because of my hoosiers. I usually run DS in SCCA which allows DOT slicks but I guess not Subaru challenge. I was one of the two red 04's there. Would have been 3rd or 4th in WRX stock but instead finished 9th in WRX mod.

I see they still didn't go back and correct my off course.
I should be 4th in WRX Stock with a 31.960. I'm 99% certain I went off course with the 31.330 run.

True that. I was pretty happy with my standing considering I only have about 15 autocrosses under by belt and I was on all-season tires. Though, many of those people had zero experience so 15 is quite a bit of an advantage.
