Any body have a template for the triple gauge face for the pod housing? I would like to just make my own face plate for the gauges since I already have the pod housing. Also if you guys could tell me the exact size the gauges need to be that would be great! I know they are a hard to find size so if maybe you all know which brand also that would be awsome!! thanks again guys!

Dirt Devil.

I'm going through the same thing as you right now. I got my pod housing a couple weeks ago and my autometer 2 1/16" gauges are on the way. From what I've been told the 2 1/16" gauges are a little big, so you have to take a dremel tool and modify the pod housing a bit.

Basically I think there are 2 ways to mount the gauges. 1. you can put the mounting surface on the backside of the pod or 2. you can put the mounting surface on the frontside of the pod.

Personally I think it looks a little better mounted on the frontside. I'm looking for someone that has a frontside template so I can make my own.

Larry Ganz said that he used part of a bumper cover for his. Does anyone know of anything else to use? Something that is probably black in color and will look like it's suppose to be there?

I don't want to go with a tin faceplate either.

Thanks. Sorry Dirt Devil......didn't mean to turn this into my post......lol. But I think you'll have the same questions.

If you want I'll mail you my template that I made. Just PM me. and I'll even tell you how much to cut out on the pod.[img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

well here is mine, i am supposed to be getting all the instructions together. it has been very hectic at work so it is taking me longer than expected. i have everything documented, please be patient.

i absolutely love my setup, it is just too bad that the gauge housing is a different size in the WRX so i will have to come up with something for that.

recessed gauges is definately the way to go, especially with a custom lexan faceplate it looks sooooo good.
recessed gauges is definately the way to go
thats what i did too (recess). its much easier to make a faceplate when its recessed.
AndyM 05-16-2001 03:53 PM

damn what kind of gauges are those?
[freeman] 05-16-2001 04:10 PM

looks like autometer phantoms..

joostin420,

Great job. You've convinced me to go recessed. I sent you a pm. I'm ready for the documentation. My gauges should be here any day now. This is the best setup I've seen so far.

Thanks.

Can't wait for this to be posted. I've had the stuff for a while now and have been staring at the pod and gauges to try to determine what to cut and where so it doesn't look like crap. Be nice to know what you need to do to make it come out so good.

bump. I emailed joostin420 a couple days ago and I haven't heard back. I don't know what the hold up is.

Hey, I was interested in this too. Oh well, the guy is probably busy. Anyways, since people seem interested, here is some info he gave me when I PM'ed him back when the thread started. Hope that helps...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
around $50 each for the gauges, $60 for the housing, $6 for 3'x3' peice of lexan, $25 for T fitting for oil pressure tap and other misc. stuff like screws and stuff from hardware store, and $60 for a Dremel tool (which i have used a bunch of times since making the gauge pack).
so around $280 i believe -vs- $500-600.

and mine looks a hell of a lot better than the one from Subaru.

Hey,

That setup looks great! I've really been wanting to get the gauge pod and considered getting the factory one from Subaru, but it's like $500+. How much did your entire setup cost you (if you don't mind my asking). I'm trying to decide which is a better alternative: piecing the parts together myself or buying the factory kit. If you have any info that could help me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Bump. I guess this thread is dead now.

O well... [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif[/img]

Well guys I don't know if he's busy or what.

UPS delivered my gauges 2 days ago. I'm pleased, they are sweet. Looks like I may have to stumble through parts of this install, but I have most of the information I need. I don't want to promise anything, but I might try to document this thing. Maybe try to get all the really important stuff anyway (but no promises). Don't want you guys getting pissed at me....hehe.

I'll let you all know how it goes. After I get my car back which should be next week some time.

I am currently in the process of building a pod for my WRX right now. I am using the stock pod and puttong three Autometer gauges in it. I am installing a Boost, A/F and a clock. The stock pod is not quite tall enough for the gauges. I am flush mounting them.

So far I have the front lens made and the two backing pieces cut to size. I am putting a face plate in front of the mounting rings so that all that you will see is the gauge and the inner portion of the ring. It will be really cool when I get the whole thing but the work is tedious. I had to back cut one of the faceplates with a small dremel router bit. but I finally got the depth right last night after a little trial and error. I will try and post some pics of it after the install.

Super.

I also thinking what I'll do about the Auto-Meter's 2 1/16 gauges...I do have a hole saw thats that big. Thinkn' about clamping wood on the pod for stability for the holes then maybe a "lexzan" or "plexiglass" plate that will be painted black on the "back" to fill in the spaces and hold the gauges in. Just my ideas...haven't tried yet....Dave
