ATTN: All 93 - 95 Impreza Owners: Need help with rear seat questions!

93 - 95 Impreza Owners, I need your help with rear seat questions!

If you guys have the split fold-down seats in your cars, how do they attach to the chasis? Is there a latch? Are the bolt down positions the same as the seats that don't fold down?

I'm trying to adapt a rear seat that folds down from a 93 - 95 impreza to my 2000 impreza coupe. I have a chance to get a seat from a salvage yard for $60 bucks but It's a purchase pretty much off the phone, so i will not be able to see the mechanism that folds down the seat. I just want to make sure I get all I need to adapt it to my subie... Please let me know... Even if you don't know the answers to my questions, if you have a split fold down seat, please post, I want to talk to you!!! [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif[/img]

Thanx ya'll... Hopefully, this will become a part of the "mods" section once I do it, as I've sensed interest from other board members...

Hello,

Though I own a '95, I have never seen an Impreza with stock fold-down seats, aside from the wagon seats. The wagon seats will not fit in a coupe or sedan. The fold-down seats that I have are from a Legacy Sedan (a turbo, nonetheless). They bolt in exactly the same way the RS seats bolt in. When you fold down the seats, you're actually folding what looks like 80-90% of the seat, not the whole thing. On the RS, it's all the part upto but not including the parts that lump outwards at neck level and at the sides.

Yep, my 95 doesn't have a fold down rear seat either. I wish it did, but the seatback is one piece and a pain in the butt to take apart during stereo speaker installation.
Mike Riegel 10-11-2000 09:30 AM

I think that I can be of a little help here...

I bought a set of rear seat-back from a 93 Legacy Turbo - pretty much the same thing here. The seats attach using the same points of the stock seats (I have a MY 98 RS - should be the same on a '00). However, when the seat is bolted onto the frame, the folding portions have nothing to latch to. I went to my local dealership and after a long time looking through the exploded views, we found the pieces that will bolt to the frame - little "U" shaped guys that the seat backs will larch onto. I ordered the parts (I can get you the numbers if you want - please eMail...) and they have been on backorder for about a month - guess there is not a lot of cause to order those pieces, but they are out there.

Better yet, if you are getting donor seats from a salvage yard, just check out the car they they came out of and take the mounts off - simple as that.

Hope this helps...

Go Scooby!

You're serious. I can get fold down seats (which I knew about) WITH the mounts that the seats latch into? Awesome. Please post the part # and let us know when they come in to see if they fit in and what you needed to do to make them fit.

ImprezaL 10-11-2000 10:52 AM

I've seen and gotten parts from a salvaged 95 Impreza L 2.2 AWD 4-dour with 60/40 fold down rear seats, so I guess they did exsist, but it sounds like it's pretty hard to find them...
MrP0nch0 10-11-2000 10:17 PM

I just wanted to keep everyone posted on the subject (and at the same time, shoot this message back to the top)

I placed an order for a seat with a salvage yard in NC. I spoke to the guy over the phone and he said he could get me the seat and all the mounting hardware... He said he'd get back to me on e-mail... I basically will buy the seat and see if it fits, if not, then I have $60 bucks + shipping to lose and learn [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif[/img]

Thanx to all who have posted... Keep 'em coming...

93 - 95 owners!!! I know you're out there! Please respond!

Peace

I know which Impreza 4 door came with 60/40 split rear seats. I even have the part numbers. Now, what am I going to get if I tell you guys this info? [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/tongue.gif[/img]

You guys, owe me a big one for this. I wasn't gonna tell anyone and sell this info to Saddam Hussein in exchange for dried dates. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif[/img]
Keiho 10-12-2000 12:10 AM

I would've kept the info and sold it to Saddam for dried dates AND some dried prunes.
Rez 10-12-2000 08:31 AM

I thought Saddam WAS a dried prune...

Hey-
Leave the Devil alone. He's been hurt badly by Saddam. Poor little guy. He called me last night and cried his poor heart out.

So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (please) post the part numbers for all the components. I would love to have folding rear seats. Would be AWESOME!

Here is a list of parts you need. You might not want to get the "cover complete" parts (3) since you might be able to reuse your stock rear seat covers with some stiching. Also, please check and post the price for all of these parts from Subaruparts.com, I am lazy.

Ouch! I think that "Covers" are actually cloth, and we don't need them. So that will remove ~$650 off. It is still pricey, though.
RidinLow 10-12-2000 10:20 PM

Whoa Carlos! Did you actually spend that much to get the seats to fold down? I kinda like my way better, and all I had to pay for was the 2 zipties that hold the corrogated liner to the backrest. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif[/img]
nizz 10-12-2000 10:24 PM

Aaaahhh!!!! I already have the remote gas lid!!!! sorry... no part numbers though. Got it off a trashed 95 Impreza L. I guess it's junkyard time for you folks. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif[/img]

Imprezer: If you have access to part numbers, can you get me the part number for the thingamajiggy that holds the filler hole knob that goes on the inside of the lid? Please? Pretty please?

that's not an order i placed... I just got the prices.... "sugar" from troncalli had quoted me around 900 bucks for all teh parts... then she suggested just going to a junkyard [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif[/img]

I'm still waiting to hear from that dude in NC and see if he has the parts... Thanx Mr Imprezident Sir... Now i have the parts list to give to the dude and have him ship me all those parts from the donor car ....

Imprezer 10-12-2000 10:40 PM

nizz, explain agian what are you looking for?
nizz 10-12-2000 10:46 PM

Imprezer,

You know how your RS has this thing that you can slide your gas cap (the one you screw in) into that holds it while you are filling your car up with gas. That's the thing I'm missing. TIA

nizz
Imprezer 10-13-2000 12:08 AM

You mean on the gas tank door?
nizz 10-13-2000 10:22 AM

Imprezer,

OK. There's a lid that covers the gas filler hole and the gas cap that screws into the gas filler hole. On the back (inside) of the lid that you slide your finger under to open, you have a black plastic thing that you can hang the gas cap on while you are filling up. That is what I am missing from my remote lid. I hope that is clear. If not, I can take pictures tomorrow.

nizz
garface 10-17-2000 06:33 PM

Your talking about the little plastic part that prevents the door from locking with the opposing male part(the lil' white thing that pops out and then goes down)? Correct. All you need to do is figure out a way to hook up a cable to that to control the lil white thing that goes in and out. Does that sound right. Do you need a spring so it'll pop open? Wow, I think I confused myself.
nizz 10-17-2000 10:14 PM

Actually, I need a spring to make it pop open more than it does now as well as the black plastic piece behind the door that serves no purpose but to hold the gas cap while you are filling up. I will go take a picture of it when I get a hold of someone else's RS to end all the confusion.

nizz
