Bathurst In-Car: Brutal part 1

Bathurst In-Car: Brutal
http://www.mtfile.com/mtdotnet/MT05_Bathurst2004FullHotLap.wmv

What the old Nurburgring is to memory and risks, Bathurst is to balls and rollercoasters.

For those that haven't seen it, it's like the front straight at Road America, followed by the Laguna corskscrew that then leads into the Sears Point carousel, Lime Rock bomb hole, corskscrew, Sears 3/3a, then Sears 8/8a, another corskcrew, and then Sears 10/11 while reaching 300kph a couple of times.

Even more brutal:

May our next 25hr NEVER be this close with 7 minutes to go...

i HATE this track in forza motorsport
wrx2.0 555 05-05-2006 07:58 AM

They blow by that Subie on their last lap like its standing still....

Very cool vids....... :)
Scoob5555 05-05-2006 07:59 AM

What course is this in Forza? I have driven them all in the stock game and that doesn't look familiar.
artkevin 05-05-2006 09:44 AM

I think he might mean TOCA 2 or 3. I'll have to check out the vids at home but Bathurst is a crazy brutal track. Its also a track you got to watch out bouncing kangaroos on.
Mike210 05-05-2006 11:11 AM

And of course...does Speed show us the Bathurst 24? Nope, just more NASCAR.
Rally_wgn 05-05-2006 11:14 AM

It's similar to Blue Mountain.
Crash477 05-05-2006 11:16 AM
It's similar to Blue Mountain.
Yeah Blue Mountain Raceway is based off this I believe.
MattSTi 05-05-2006 11:27 AM

Awesome videos! Thanks for posting those, the 25hr video was excellent, very very close racing. That looks like a very challenging track.

I've seen coverage in the past of it on Speed. They usually show Bathurst 24 and Spa 24 but each is squeezed into a 1hr show and it airs either a weekday afternoon or in the middle of the night. That's one reason I love my DVR.
grippgoat 05-05-2006 03:44 PM
Yeah Blue Mountain Raceway is based off this I believe.
Affirmative. That track definitely separates the men from the boys. :) I had to play it for like an hour just practicing and tweaking my car setup just to be able to put in a good lap. It's hard enough to memorize the track itself, but you really have to memorize exactly where to put the car to get the over or understeer the way you expect it to be able to hold speed in the corners. I hated it at first, but if you just drive it for a while, you start to get the hang of it, and then it's just a really fun challenge.

Crash477 05-05-2006 03:45 PM

Yeah I really like driving it on Forza!
pio!pio! 05-05-2006 03:59 PM

If anyone watched last years coverage, there was an accident on the way up the mountain (maybe at the cutting) where two cars got into it, one car was almost pushed over the barrier and off the track down the mountain!
In that accident, one of the wheel/tire/upright broke off and bounded down the circuit hitting another car square on the windshield!!! There was a huge crushed section of the windshield. So they pitted and removed the front and rear windshields and ran like that for the rest of the race! The drivers were freezing...!
Kostamojen 05-05-2006 05:52 PM

That downhill is brutal... The rest looks fun.
USF97J4x4 05-05-2006 05:59 PM

In that last race where its close, what are those carS?
grippgoat 05-05-2006 06:08 PM
In that last race where its close, what are those carS?
I think they said they were Holden Monaros. Which I think is the car the Pontiac GTO is based on.

The incident with the wheel was at last years Bathurst 1000 which is part of the Australian V8 Supercars series. Speed delays these and shows them over the winter which is great because you get to watch the whole season in about 3 months one round every week.
qjumpr 05-05-2006 08:59 PM

great vid's I haven't been able to see any Ozzie V8's for a while. The cars they race will blow your mind, my old Boss in NZ used to race V8's. if you're interested you should check out Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) or Holden Race Team (HRT) and also Ford Special Vehicles and the XR8 BA Falcon.

runoff's are overrated! that kangaroo hit vid is crazy!
eatV8 05-06-2006 10:03 AM

Like many race tracks around the world, it doesnt begin to show all of the track watching on TV(or computer screen). When you actually drive around the Mt.Panorama/Bathurst you soon realise how narrow the track gets, how many blind corners there are and the severe grades some of those drops and rises are. It is definatley one of the worlds greastest tracks.
forced4 05-06-2006 10:40 AM

Bathurst rocks.
Easy Rider 05-06-2006 12:15 PM

amazing track, thanks for the videos :)
jamal 05-07-2006 10:38 PM

Thanks for the videos. I used to have the full races from 91 and 92 when the GTRs won. The coverage is just so amazing.
STiLED 05-07-2006 11:29 PM

oh my, that was cool!!!
Blk_on_Blk_Wgn 05-08-2006 05:25 AM

Oh man the Shannon OBrien crash   Roll over at 280km!! he is lucky..
and the Kangaroo.. I remember seeing a similar video of a (98'?) DTM race on the Nurburgring when a deer came out in front of the MB C-class at like 200km!!! the dear Exploded, it was gnarly..every time I see it i'm like "DAMN"
buzz313th 05-08-2006 11:04 AM

I can see the Aussies take their road racing seriously. I wish there was a way to watch those races here in the US... I think the announcers do an amazing job keeping the tempo up also.

No more Bathurst 24 hr unfortunately :(
WRX 2002 05-13-2006 09:31 PM

I've driven the track a few years ago, its a public road 98% of the time. I can image its would take some getting used to it at speed.!!

This track is in Race Driver 1. Looks even crazier in this in car video :)
mykrrrr 05-14-2006 09:28 AM

Greg Murphy is an animal @ Bathurst. :D

That fastest lap was so cool.

That Lotus looks so stable compared to the Aussie GT car. Such a great track.
Chiketkd 05-25-2006 09:25 AM

Great videos! I love watching the Austrilian V8 supercar racing series on Speed!!!

That one vid of the Lotus race at Bathurst is nuts. That's how you do it!
