How did you smoke your tails part 1

How did you smoke your tails
Hey.. I have a 2007 sti in black... What is the best looking, easyiest, and long lasting way to tint your taillights? Is there a hard cover? I know of the already cut smoked covers that are soft and the niteshades spray but I want to know if theres any other ways... What did you try? Any suggestions? Please leave all bashing away from this thread. Thanks guys

pics if you have them ... great
madspecvman 01-15-2007 11:15 PM

i got my tails tinted from greg at underground graphics.

i sprayed mine with vht nightshades and it came out great! i think im actually going to go darker... just make sure that you spray light and even coats.
nerdydorkus 01-16-2007 03:58 AM

get rockblocker. its precut, easy, cheap, and completely reversible (for resale).

+1 x2
not to mention it's still reflective so it's safer than nightshade/spray tint because even if you use clear coat, it wont shine like rockblocker/laminx will
X-Factor 01-16-2007 04:09 AM

If it were me (and it will be), just normal tint. I would screw up the spray.
skate enjoi 01-16-2007 07:39 AM

theres really no way possible to screw up the spray? as long as you decently prep your tail lights you have nothing to worry about
X-Factor 01-16-2007 07:40 AM

You obviously don't know me....
skate enjoi 01-16-2007 07:41 AM

hahaha i know how that is... ive been known to mess up the easiest stuff too
Hey.. I have a 2007 sti in black... What is the best looking [...] way to tint your taillights?
I had no idea there was a good looking way.. much less a best. I suppose the laminex/rockblocker route is the best way since it's the most reversible.

If you want to hide the ricey looking stock tail-lamps, just post up a WTT Taillight thread in your local forum and aim for the '04-'05 tails.
ThinkGlobal 01-16-2007 11:15 AM

after watching a friend try and use the nightshades spraypaint, i went with a set from hotsubarus. Waaaaay easier for me. plus i can always peel and toss if the next owner does like them. lots of option i guess.
InfiniteMotorsports 01-16-2007 11:23 AM

I also used Nightshades on a few cars and it seems to turn out well and the finish lasts

The rockblocker/hot subaru/lamin-x aren't exactly that simple for the 04-05's, I watched my tint guy apply is and because of how the brake lamp contours out from the rest of the light it a bit tricky, you have to soften it with some heat and then stretch it over the contour and then push all the air out, I still had some even after everything was all said and done and had to go back and work the air out.

I used the bluebatmobile overlays:

I plan to get the full tints for my tail lghts but BlueBatmobile as well as Rockblocker don't have any pics of the full tint...only the half tints.

Unfortunatley, HotSubaru doesn't ship to Canada. I decided to buy from BlueBatmobile and was just wondering if anyone used their full tint product. I'd be interested to see their differences.
Matt_H 01-25-2007 12:16 AM

I have the full tint (3/10) but I havent put mine on yet. I may do that this weekend, and I will definatly get pictures.
BrownBoy 01-25-2007 12:17 AM

I was planning on ordering the 6/10 tint. I want it PITCH BLACK!!!

Hmm thats odd. I would not use batmobile though. A friend tried on his car and said they were tissue paper thin and impossible to work with. Good luck though. I love the smoked look.
4wdrift 01-25-2007 11:22 AM

Not an Impreza but same concept. ROCKBLOCKER and 15-20 minutes = profit!

Knightmare69 05-09-2007 08:48 AM

I had the rockblocker ones on my 05 but because we have that raised portion, one of my tail lights didn't seat properly. So I sent mine out to www.jonstintedtails.com and had him spray it via european method. Came out great and I don't have to worry about peeling or anything. I'll post pics after I take them this weekend at the shop.

Knightmare69 05-09-2007 09:45 AM

^ That depends on how good you are as it's easy to have overspray in certain spots which will show up when the lights come on.
ray101381 05-09-2007 10:23 AM

i used rockblocker and tinted my 05 tails on my 07 wrx, i also tinted the thrid brake light on the spoiler with tint from hotsubarus.com i don't have a picture of the third light tinted yet.
