Blue Hella Supertones
Anyone Paint their Supertones?

Got pictures?

There's writeup on here detailing how to change them to cherry blossom red. Basically you take the grilles off, use paint stripper to remove the old paint, primer the grilles, spray them with the color of your choice, and reassemble them. I painted mine black (looked better with the pillarless grille.) I know a local guy (his name on here is "Lexington") has painted them blue to match his car.
bmcgaffey 08-17-2006 04:59 AM

I have looked everywhere and I cant find any pictures of a 2006 (or model) with blue hellas. I searched most of lexington's threads.

What about the words on the domes? Can you just paint them black too?
Black-Falcon 08-17-2006 05:04 AM

I would be interested to see how people are mounting them in the 06.

Scuff them up with sand paper and hit them with WRB touch up paint.

How did y'all mount them perfectly even in the middle of thr grill? With the stock wiring and brackets, I could only bring up the driver's side one so far. The passenger one is fine, however.

Just grind the little nub on the center pillar flat.

Mine is an 06...made a bracket (a-la home depot and spray paint) and mounted it to the center support in front of the radiator. Used an existing bolt.
1st attempt was eyeballed and they are ~ 1/2" off center. I plan on making a 2nd bracket in the coming weeks and retrofitting.

However...custom colors.... I may have to paint them at the same time.

Gotcha - I figured I could do that with Dremel, but wanted to make sure before going ahead with it :)

How about extending the wiring? Is it a simple splicing job?

96accord . . . you plan on painting them before we install them? that might make it easier. :D

I just grabbed some wheel paint. (black metallic flake) Sanded it with what they recommended (300 grit I think. says on the can) gave it 3 coats and it's held up pretty well.

Plug the existing horn wire into a relay and then run a hot lead directly from the battery, appropriately fused of course. I mounted my relay in that hole in the center pillar. It's not there yet in the pic, but you can see the hole right in the middle.

Supertones and Light Rings
Anybody ever put light rings (angel eyes) around their Supertones? A bit ricey maybe but possibly cool too since they'd be hidden and only on when you want them on. Just a thought.

i like red better. im glad I kept mine normal red color, it offsets the WRB paint nicely

Yah. The paint flows out pretty well. They're not perfect, but who cares? They're behind the grill and get dirty and bug spattered pretty quickly.

What kind of paint did you use?? Did you sand, primer, paint, clear??

Same WRB paint that my painter used on my front bumper. I don't know what process he used, but I haven't gotten any nicks or scratches in the past 2 years.
vision.dynamix 04-07-2008 09:18 AM

I painted mine black a while ago while I had the stock grill. I DIY'd my grill and have red SuperTones now..
