Search is Over...WRC Spoiler is HERE!
As many know, a few of us have been searching for the actual "box shaped-hanging off trunk lid" WRC spoiler that the actual Prodrive WRC Impreza uses. This is NOT the so-called "WRC-style" spoiler that many places sell that is nothing more then a 22B style spoiler stuck on a WRX which, IMHO, looks totally out of place.
Vivid Racing was trying to get them but nothing came of it. Well, you can now thank the wonderful folks AV Sport at for coming through for us WRC fans! From what I can remember after seeing the actual WRC car at STPR last year, this spoiler is exact. Just perfect. I'm sure the real deal might be adjustable, but as far as shape and location, AV Sport's WRC spoiler is spot on.
Made of fiberglass, it will naturally need a bit of prep work, but not too much as it looks quite nice as is. AV Sport also put the mounting points in the stock location.
This is my buddy's who has been searching for one since he got his WRX(I have a wagon....unfortunately ;) ). It goes in to be painted next week. Pictures to follow then.
Big thanks to AV Sport for doing a hell of a job. I guess they actually have or will be offering an entire WRC body kit. But for now, this will do very nicely! When my buddy ordered it, they weren't sure on pricing but gave him an estimate(were still being made). When it was done, they stuck to their estimate and shipped when they said they were going to and provided a tracking number as well. Much appreciated.
I believe price is around $850 or so, but to have an actual WRC-looking spoiler, it's well worth it IMHO. Check with them as I may be off a bit.

I would worry about people bumping into it or testing it's strength by leaning on it. It only takes one NASCAR bubba!:)

Bah! That's why you pay for insurance every month!
As far as running into it, considering most other cars and trucks come with front bumpers, how they would hit the spoiler and not the rear bumper first is beyond me  :)

$850 for a simple fiberglass wing is a little much if you as me...
| WRX Pilot | 03-08-2002 01:06 PM |
That is the WING!
I had the stock wing.... didn't like it.:(
Had the MRT rep. 22b wing, didn't like it.
Now I have no wing at all. Its ok.:o
But that is the wing I've wanted! :D $850 is way to much for what it is but that will come down I'm sure. Other companys (wings west) will copy it and sell it cheaper.

was this imported to the states of made here in the states? do they have them without it hanging off? the same style but sitting on the trunk like the sti prodrive one?
| aspera | 03-08-2002 03:44 PM |
I meant bumping into it like "fat lady trying to squeeze between cars in a crowded WalMart parking lot" kinda way.
| Rebellion | 03-08-2002 04:01 PM |
I have the 22b replica... gonna keep it until either this wing here comes down in price (I mean come on .. mine was under $600 painted and installed and it's even adjustable) or a Prodrive Style replica.
| | 03-08-2002 05:31 PM |
The wings are imported from ProDrive.
The cost is high because they send them to us in two pieces and with no mounting brackets.
It takes our fiberglass guy about 4 days to finish them right.
If you would like to get them raw and have your own 'glass shop finish them, I can sell them to you for $625.00 plus shipping.
I hope that the cost of prepping these wings will come down so that we can pass it on to you.
Our 'glass guy will determine that!
Regards,
Wayne

I'm pretty sure all of AV Sports is gone to the cherokee trails prorally, so check back later next week. I've seen some vendors sell the prodrive-style parts. That rear spoiler was $1200-$1300 though. :D A replica would be very cool though.
| blaznasn | 03-14-2002 05:28 PM |
yea the real prodrive style wing is just too expensive for me, even though i will buy it eventually if i have to:p , if a replica could be made that would be very cool.

Sorry for taking so long to get back here all.
It was a long week at Cherokee Trails but well worth it with our overall win. (By just one second!)
Anyhow, ProDrive Style wings, etc., no replicas yet. I can get the originals and the prices are as follows:

Any idea of the finished/painted weight of the fiberglass wing? I believe the carbon race part is 4kg.
Thanks!

So where could one get a genuine piece?
| JamesC | 03-22-2002 01:01 PM |
I would just call for this info but thought others might be interested. If it's a 1:1 copy from the carbon piece - is the airfoil strong enough to resist the deflection? My reasoning being that the carbon piece would likely be minimized thinner for the same strength. Or is this intended as a hand-laid fibreglass race part?
Thanks again! I'm really interested and may lay up a composite copy if we decide on this piece.

AV Sports is getting these from Prodrive so they are "genuine" so to speak, only in fiberglass. If you want a CF one from Prodrive just like the WRC car uses, AV Sports might be able to get it. I would guess it'd cost you between $1500-2000 though.

so what is the final price on your replica of the wing? if one were to get it, could someone put the wing on the trunk so it hangs off less than it should or will that cause fitment issues?

Not yet. It is actually getting quite ridiculous. The body shop had it for the last 6 weeks(just totally swamped with work). They had to do a bit of work to it with fiberglass filler or whatever they use, but he said it came out great. Then finally painted it and said he did not like the way it turned out so he stripped it and did it over. Should have it in a few days.
Stay tuned.
