Driving shoes. part 1

Gernick 01-11-2005 03:48 AM

Driving shoes.
How many out there actually use them? Either Auto-x or just out having fun.
LyveWRX 01-11-2005 09:03 AM

I have a worn down pair of ChuckTaylor's Hightop. I really like them, thin soles, comfy, flexible, they are not fireproof however and they dont have the side wear patch. They are really cheap though....

(I need to Sipe mine for winter events now)
skuttledude 01-11-2005 09:04 AM

wrestling shoes do the same thing and are usually cheaper....just a FYI
rsotak 01-11-2005 09:19 AM

Indopor soccer shoes also work quite well. They have a little more cushion then the wrestling shoes too.
gregr01 01-11-2005 09:23 AM

Sparco Rally boot -- I use them for track days, and autox since I have them.

Added benefit is they have a real sole so you can walk around the paddock and not wear them out. I don't wear them around the autox parking lot... that's just not right. :disco:

I use Adidas Tuscanys.

Picked up a pair a few months ago. Great pair of shoes!!! Unlike wrestling shoes or true racing shoes, you don't feel like a clown when wearing them out in public. They are a good compromise between a true race shoe and a casual street shoe.
omahasubaru 01-11-2005 10:22 AM

I use the adidas Tuscany as well. I picked them at the end of the season and have only used them for 1 or 2 local events. I've been very pleased with the feel and especially the cost. They are comfortable to wear while working corners too, but that may not be the best choice.
BriDrive 01-11-2005 10:33 AM

I will be driving in Gary Sheehan's shoes this year..............
rautox 01-11-2005 11:40 AM

Another vote for chucks
Subaru Gwinnett 01-11-2005 07:44 PM

I got the new mesh topped Blue, Gold and Black Pilotis from J3 Racing. They kind of look Subaruish. LOVE them, almost never take them off They are low-tops so I don't feel funny wearing them but I can feel the texture of any warks on the pedals. Plus the J family is pretty much the nicest family I've ever met.

Samba Classics

...like was said, they're a little nicer on the feet when walking the course as much as I have to. :D

I use Puma Speedcats...another shoe like the Tuscany that is a good compromise..don't buy Speedcats if you have wide feet though..it will feel like you are balancing on the shoe rather than in them

are the addidas like that too???
dElKwOn 01-12-2005 01:34 AM

i myself got the puma gritcat , very much like the speedcats . except these got these circular cleat type things on the bottoms. i guess for traction when yer out in the field.
Akina 01-12-2005 01:44 AM

Piloti's for me.
nikeboy 01-12-2005 02:29 AM

All i have to say is that the adidas tuscanys and the puma speed cats are very easy on the feet and the colors are nice at least for me its all about the orange and blue tuscanys and the blue yellow and black speed cats. With the sped cats you get a better feel of where your foot is on the pedal
NWWagon 01-12-2005 02:33 AM

I wear my VANS skate shoes they grip the pedals like mad and have a great feel.
Gernick 01-12-2005 03:09 AM

Whoa. Lotta answers. I've been doing regular driving in my Timberland trail running shoes. They're adequate but about to go kaput.
samboard 01-12-2005 07:35 AM

definitely wrestling shoes, very inexpensive with a very thin sole. do a google search for them and i think you can find them for under $20 shipped.

As promised, the shoes arrived in superb condition....obviously from a hygienic driver

Also recommend Piloti Spyder's for those who don't want to look like posers at that thier local auto-x. I have Spyder PRO 12-2....they work great....

Autocross I actually like driving in socks :) Otherwise I find Simpson Speedways in black more comfortable than runners or similar for long events - they are also fairly unobstrusive.

g-force - FIA rated 3/4 tops

but of course i had to search to find something in my size
pio!pio! 01-12-2005 12:48 PM

I like Gforce becuase the stuff is cheap as far as racer gear goes (I have their helmet and gloves) but for shoes I dunno I want something more stylish :P:P
AlpineFD 01-12-2005 10:39 PM

I have g-force shoes, it works good :)
sands 01-12-2005 10:39 PM

For budget high tops, wrestling shoes are the way to go.

Low tops; indoor soccer shoes (the sambas that somebody already suggested) or vollyball/racquet ball shoes.
Slack 01-12-2005 11:16 PM

Puma Speedcats (lowtops) in black/white. I haven't had the chance to wear them to an auto-x, but they are great, so far, on the street.

well...
u want fire resistant stuff, coming from someone who has been involved in two fires!!!

if you are in motorsports, alpinestars does some nice incentive programs,

they also make awesome products..their gloves rock!

I have been a driving shoe FREAK since 96. I bought a pair of HH Brown driving shoes and fel in love.

Currently I have :

1. HH Brown casual driving shoes Brown
2. Cole Haan driving mocs(with laces) Brown
3. Polo driving shoes (with laces) Brown
4. Piloti DTM Nomex midway shoes Black
5.TSUBO suede and Nomex driving shoes.
6. Alpine Stars Racing F1-T Red

On our honeymoon, we spent one day in Monaco and I saw 15 pair of driving shoes in my size(rare 47) and had to narrow it down to 1 pair. In Europe they are fanatics about driving shoes.

FYI: I still wear all the regular shoes, like my big clunky KENNETH COLE dress shoes that are like 5 lbs each,...those are what I like to work on healing and towing in a pickup truck with before a race, as ther is NO feel and it hurts your ankles to flex them that much.

Myles

Oh, PS:We are APLINE STARS dealer and have the new RACING SUIT and 2005 SHOES............
