Bought STI cluster, what did it come out of?
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c280/akira350z/IM000669.jpg

Alright to start off I bought an STI gauge cluster, shipped straight from Japan. First off, it was different than the one in the pic of the ebay listing; they said it was from a 2002 STI. Second, it has some odd features that I havn't seen before, so maybe it's rare?
On the left side in between the fuel/temp gauges it has arrows lined up vertically. Then above those it says COMPETITION lined in white. It also, has a shift-light looking thing below the COMPETITION lettering.

S202 cluster?
thedaddyb 12-01-2005 08:12 AM

aren't the arrows on the newer clusters for the dccd?
akira02rex 12-01-2005 08:23 AM
aren't the arrows on the newer clusters for the dccd?
Yeah I think it's for DCCD. But all the version7 clusters I've seen never said COMPETITION nor had the arrows. So what v7 sti is this?
Handsdown 12-01-2005 09:32 AM

it's not s202, s202 has navy blue guages.

i'd guess RA-spec C, didn't they have DCCD?
akira02rex 12-01-2005 10:23 AM

I cannot find a picture of the RA-spec C cluster.
pyork03 12-01-2005 11:54 PM

Just looks like an automatic JDM STI V7 cluster but it doesnt have the shift light.
IIdiceII 12-02-2005 02:16 AM

At least you almost have a full tank :p

its for the automatic w/tiptronic shift.
its for the automatic w/tiptronic shift.
The Impreza WRX STi has never been available in auto anywhere. As far as I can gather it is from the following car (taken from Subaru's STi website):

IMPREZA WRX STi Type RA (JPN model) applied model GDBA4DH
2001 Year model : For Group N
Applied Model:GH-GDBA4DH, 6MT/with Roof ventilator/with DCCD/16inch.
Homologation valid as from 01 Jul. 2001

The Type RA went into MY2002... (version with steel wheels) and was one of the STi's that came with DCCD along with the Type RA Spec C (Street version) The regular STi did not come with DCCD. The "Competition" setting is probably a version of the "Auto" setting found on current cars. Also the shift light is found below the "Competition" indicator.

This was a while ago and I could be wrong.
Magnum626 12-02-2005 04:18 PM

Hmm interesting, do you have a bigger picture?
Lachlan 12-02-2005 04:21 PM

That's def the DCCD indicator, not an auto gear indicator

Does anyone know why some STI clusters have a shift light and others don't? My V7 has just a blank there... was it an option or something?

I think the S202's didn't come with shiftlights but the almost identical prodrive ones did.....
Lachlan 12-03-2005 12:20 AM

I can't read it, but I think this page has the pic of the s202 cluster:

Looks like almost the same read out you have on your cluster. I grabbed this off this thread:

I would think your cluster has to be out of one of the older Spec C cars
Uncle Scotty 12-03-2005 10:37 AM

....if there is a PN on the cluster, post it up.
akira02rex 12-03-2005 05:49 PM

Wow thanks for the replies guys! What is a PN? I already have it installed if you're wondering about some sort of serial number. A guy from Kingpin told me the cluster was from a Group N car though.

PN = Part Number

a car is not usually born a Group N, so it was STI, V7... Spec C since it has DCCD, but why no shift light  interesting!
Group N's are Spec C's from MY05 btw

But there is a shift light... located below the "Competition" indicator... in 2001/2002 STi RA the shift light was not on the center gauge.
Hyper 12-04-2005 12:21 AM

ooooh
I think I see it now, that dot above DCCD? but then where is the control pin to adjust it?

2 akira02rex
did you hook it up yet?

as i stated before, the s202 cluster has blue faces, so that rules that out.
Here is a pic of the newest JDM Spec C:
there were, however, bugeye spec-c's before the red constant illumination sti guages. that's what i was guessing this was.

and type ra group n sounds right to me.
akira02rex 12-04-2005 11:14 PM

I installed the cluster yes. I do not know how to get the shift light working either if that's indeed what that light is indicated for. I figured the light was to notify that the car was in Competition mode lol.
