I was in Milano during the winter a few years back, so I rented a car and drove to Monza. The track is in a beautiful and serene park. Drove right up the access roads to the F1 pits and garages and then walked under the track tunnel to stand at the start/finish line. My wife thought I was a complete idiot, but it was a genuine thrill to just stand there.
Anyway:
1. MS
2. Raikkonen
3. RB
4. JPM
5. Button
6. Alonso
7. Pizzaman
8. Fisi
Better not blink, cause this race gets over quick!

I am not crazy just wishful. Monto won his first race here and did well last year too until old Heinz Herald held him up. But yes, Ferrari will probably trounce everyone.

I don't think the McLaren will do all that well here... I don't think they're exactly leading the pack in terms of hp... anyway, random predictions:
1: MS
2: Jensen
3: Rubino
4: Sato
5: Kimi
6: DC
7: Fisi
8: Alonso

I think there will be a lot of engines expired (including both Jags, Williams, Toyotas and BAR's), and you may not see 8 cars finish the race.
1. RB...because MS has a mysterious "transmission problem" and is in 6th gear for the last 10 laps. Miraculously cures itself with Trulli closing and 2 laps to go, after RB has gone by ;)
2. MS
3. Trulli
4. Alonso
5. Fisi
6. DC
7. Bruni
8. Sato, DNF blows engine with 4 laps to go while running 4th, but still finishes 8th

Man kfoote, you have one serious crystal ball. I have a hard time even trying to come up with the finishing order.
| kfoote | 09-09-2004 01:09 PM |
I'm using crystal ball software v 4.02.8 with f1 predicting technology. The latest version has incorporated a way to use the technology developed from dartboard v 2.7 to predict the results of any event with 20 participants and mass computes the positions after every sector. :alien:
Though, this has never been tested before and the accuracy has yet to be verified.

I didnt get my reminder either...almost missed it!
Anyway, i just made some generic picks.
One of these days i'll get really creative and develop an elaborate scenario that would keep everyone on their edge of their seats.

My picks:
1. MS - He doesn't want to dissapoint the tifosi and he's a bit pissed at himself for getting cocky and running Spa with a less than ideal setup and not winning.
2. RB - Another Ferrari 1-2, Rubens will get the win in Brazil when they give him the MS-spec engine ;)
3. KR - The new car is much better, but he'll be well behind the red cars
4. FA - Fighting for a podium spot, but falling just short
5. JB - won't be competitive for a podium spot for the rest of the year due to his contract issues
6. JPM - pilots the Williams to the best they could hope for...his move to McLaren for next year is looking better and better
7. GF - More points for Sauber!
8. DC - respectible showing.
I can't wait for Sunday to come! I'll get up early and have breakfast with F1 and then watch some football for the rest of the day (my wife just can't wait for that!).

Monza = Lay the wings down, and just race!

I like Monza... the history, the tifosi, the big old banked turn behind parabolica, parabolica, and the lesmos, and the fact that the teams lay the wings down in their set-ups, so less grip, longer braking zones, more slip.
Kimi showed that the new McLaren is the real deal, w/the horsepower to finish on the podium with the Ferraris. Here's my picks:

Michael - Going for the win
Rubens - Chasing Michael...
Kimi - Driving the silver bullet...
Juan - The silver car will be a little bit faster...
Jenson - Flogging his car up to 5th
Antonio - Ralf who?
Takuma - Dog fights like a hero, and grabs some points
David - Next year will be his year...
My picks are conservative... kfoote's picks are creative and perhaps brilliant. I would bet he scores more points than I, on this go round...

Great job Ferrari. I honestly did not see that coming.

I agree...amazing race by Ferrari and probably the most exciting race of the year. They apparantly can overcome the wrong tire choice and spin costing 10 or so places to still come in 1-2. I guess Ruebens can win a race and Michael can pass people.
| grandpa rex | 09-12-2004 11:21 AM |
An astounding performance by Ferrari with respect to both their cars and their team strategy. Most impressive performance of the year IMHO.
What a great race to watch. Something unexpected at every turn.
Minardi really dodged a bullet with that fire in the pits. Glad it wasn't worse. Any word on Bruni?
I picked Pizza Boy and Fisi right on target, so I think I might get back on the podium myself this week. Hope you still are holding my Krispy Kremes OTG.

Yes Dussander it was the "Famous last words" race today. :)
There was that, and then "its going to be very difficult for Michael to pass Sato" about 3 seconds before MS drove right past him exiting the chicane. And those are just the two I remember.
about 3 seconds before MS drove right past him exiting the chicane
Ferrari is the only team running "push to pass". So does that mean that they're sandbagging for the entire rest of the race? Lots of back-and-forth, but then when you really need to get ahead, you just use full throttle and drive right by the other guy. And Sato's not the sort to get passed like that unless he was completely helpless.
If Ferrari can win 1-2 after a race like that, F1 really is over. Blame Ferrari, blame Bernie, blame the other teams for sucking so badly if you want. But you CANNOT run a race series with a near-guaranteed outcome, even if you manage to spice it up with some mid-race "drama".

Not to stir the pot BUT....what Schumacher did was not that unusual from a time standpoint. After he spun, he dropped approximately 25~30 seconds behind the leaders. He has won many of his races this year by substantially more than that. His car with him in it have demonstrated he can pull well over a minute on the field at most events...when he doesn't backoff to conserve the car to the finish.
I personally felt, after the spin and the time gap, that he knew he still had a great shot at winning. Monza, after all is a passing circuit.
Sato bogged or missed gear....there's no other explanation on that one.
John, don't blame Ferrari, certainly not Bernie (he's got nothing to do with outcomes), BUT yes, blame: BAR,Renault,Williams,McLaren..........
Final thought, who else was REALLY UPSET to see Alonso get stiffed out of a push by the corner-workers? I was practically as upset as Alonso....and I was just sitting in my living room with a cup of coffee.......

Not really. Obviously it was safety first.
The only one to blame is himself for losing it at the corner.

At first, I thought the corner workers should've given him a shove out of the kitty litter, but when they showed the replay I could see their side of it. From the second camera angle it looked like he could have ended up in someone else's way.
| TimStevens | 09-13-2004 08:10 PM |
The other cars were whipping by a few feet from Alonso's nose, and it was at a point in the race where there wasn't a wide gap between cars. I think they made the right choice.
