svek 06-19-2005 10:27 PM

so just buy new ones? i used an entire can of carpet cleaner and it barely made a dent in the dirt. that stuff is seriously part of the carpet now.

soak it with carpet cleaner I like folex and scrub it with a brush.. then take and place it in a front loader washer (coin op) and see what that will do.. or you can use a carpet exstrator

i HATE billy mays. hes SO stupid.

"this is billy mays here with OXYCLEAN, then last cleaner you will evAR need"
Gfunk720 06-19-2005 11:18 PM

I use this blue coral foaming carpet cleaner on my mats. Just get a good firm hand brush and scrub the foam in with the little brush. Then let it soak in an do its magic for a little bit, then I take it off with a wet/dry vacume.

Havent run into dirt yet that it cant handle....now if only they made something similar for paint products
neuspeed 06-19-2005 11:36 PM

Use really hot water and a scrubbing brush along with Oxyclean(it actually works) when I say hot I say boiling water..Try to get a container to leave it in the hotwater as well if possible
svek 06-19-2005 11:42 PM

ill try some oxyclean if the washing machine doesnt take care of it. i think we have some somewhere. (17 minutes left until the mats move to the dryer)

I wouldn't, as in I would *NOT* put the mats in the dryer.....just hang 'em up to dry and/or throw them out in the sun to dry.

any reasons behind this? is it going to tear up the mats or someting?
svek 06-20-2005 12:11 AM

is that from the heat? or the tumbing?

i have a rack in mine so it doesn bounce around, and it works for me? i dont put it on the hottest setting though.

...the heat is what will delam the carpet from the backing....and if it is glued....the glue will stick to the inside of the dryer.....and the carpet could melt and lots of bad juju.....

at the detail shop i work at, we use this cleaner called detsol. it pretty much removes all grime and dirt. just spray the whole carpet with it, then with the big stains, spray some more and let it sit for a bit. after a few mins, get a brush and brush the carpet for a bit. after all the dirt has risen to the top, get a shirt or towel and wipe all the dirt to one side, and blow off all the dirt.

or what u could do is spray it with detsol, and pressure wash it.

contact Jamie/SubieGal and get some nice rubber Subaru mats, the look nice and no more worries.
ShiroChanWRX 06-20-2005 11:22 AM

For really dirty mats, I recommend cleaning as follows:

1) Use a car wash vacuum (or shop vac) to remove as much of the loose dirt and dust as possible.
2) Use a stiff brush (like a wheel brush or the like) to scrub and loosen the stuff that won't vaccum.
3) Hit the mats with a hose and get those mats really really wet. This will get rid of as much of the water soluble stuff as possible.
4) Allow to dry until damp, and then spray with a mixture of 1 part Woolite, 1/2 scoop of OxyClean (or WalMarts product for 1/7 the price), and 15 parts water. Get the carpets good and damp with the spray and agitate with the same stiff brush as step 2.
5) Allow to set for 1/2 and hour, agitate again, and then rinse with the hose. All the dirt, with the exception of asphalt, tar, and really nasty hydrocarbon-based stuff should be gone by now.
6) Shop vac to speed drying, or just allow to dry in the sun for a few hours.
7) When dry to the touch, re-vacuum to restore the nap to the carpets.
8) If desired, use a stain-protectant (I like OxyMagic, or something like that -- both the Armor All and ScotchGard products are good). Vaccum again once dry.

Auto mats are really tough and durable and can handle some serious dirt and cleaning. I would not trust a machine-drier because the heat is probably more than the backing adhesive was designed to handle. You could have them professionally steam-cleaned too.
