Car wash

I need help. I just got a black wrx, and everytime I wash it, it gets dirty again after 5 mins. I also get water marks. Any suggestions on how or what to use to get it shiny and not get water marks?
MilfordSubaru 05-23-2002 07:52 PM

??

First wax it then that will help then wash it and use seperate towels one for getting all the water off then another for getting in perfect dry but make sure you get the windows first they are the things water spot hope i helped
MattDell 05-23-2002 08:28 PM

What I do with mine is, let it dry.. until it's almost all the way dried, then take a damn chamois to it and get rid of all the spots.
MilfordSubaru 05-23-2002 08:55 PM

whats a chamois
b_tapper 05-23-2002 09:02 PM

Ok,

As a fellow black WRX owner i shall help you in this wonderfull experience of keeping your blackie clean, HEHE.... I wash my car every week, once a week! Ok, you have 2 options but first there is one thing you need to get a ton of..... TERRY CLOTH towels, the little ones, big ones, whatever...

Now onto some tips:

Just wash the car like normal, then dry the car RIGHT away with terry towels, that should get all the water spots easy, just make sure you THOUROUGHLY dry the car after soaping...

Other option (what i usually do)

Wash, Dry with terry towels, use meguires spray and wipe quick detailer, that kills the waterspots really fast annd gives a GREAT shine

Hope this helps!

pronounced "Shammy", it's a very absorbant cloth.
nqwan 05-23-2002 11:37 PM

i use the absorber for water spots and a terry cloth to get watever the absorber left behind or missed
nevzwrx 05-24-2002 01:31 AM

hey make sure you wash your car in shade because the sun dries the car too fast and thats why you get waterspots bc the sun dries the other side before you get to it. (from personal exp. in SF)If you can wash it when the sun is still down or if you can find some shade. hope this helps. (also if you wax it make sure the surface of the car is cool and not hot because thats also bad for it. wax in the shade) Later

I also recommend the Absorber for getting rid of water marks.
shogunate83 05-24-2002 02:20 AM

This is what i do... i use the california water blade to get most of the water off... then i use the absorber to get rid of the left over small drops... works like a charm

pronounced "Shammy" alright... but it's actually sheep skin, essentially a form of absorbant leather. Little bit of a pain to maintain but the best thing to use to dry the car. Get's rid of slight grime you'd have missed and lasts for years. Also leaves the windows etc... with a streak free shine.

The chamois @ Walmart are pretty good! Get a large medium gauge one! ;)
luxcar101 05-24-2002 12:14 PM

I own a Black WRX in the NrthEst

IMAGINE MY LABOR PAINS!

I don't use an absorber or a shammy/chamois (sp?). I stick with a bag of terry cloth towels and I use one for the bottom of the passenger side, one for the doors and side panels of the passenger side, another for the hood, another for the roof and trunk (use the one from the doors for the rear bumper), and the same for the other side.

I let it dry outside of the suns harmful rays (under a tree which is dangerous cause of bird poop but worth it).

While it dries I do tires, wheels, and windows to do something while I wait.

Then wax the joint and let that dry in COMPLETE shade, once thats dry I buff off which a buffer towel (thicker grade of terry cloth) and TA-DA.

Do that once a week and your gold.

Every day I use the duster and since I only wax every month or so, every 3-5 days I use this stuff called "Quick Detailer" made by Meguiar's. The stuff is AMAZING!

That will make your car look freshly waxed for a few days everytime! It's amazing!

Use it, you don't have water spots when you constantly quick detail it. It's hard work but hey we asked for it when we agreed to drive black cars (esp.with such sh_tty paint!)

Definitely use a chamois to dry the car. Much more effective than terry cloth, IMHO. (and works great to remove excess wax from a previous wax job)

Also, you might want to wash a "small" section of your car at a time so that evaporation won't beat you at drying the car... :)

One last thing is try to use a lower-pressure water spray/stream when rinsing the car as that allows the water to properly get rid of the soap and scum that might still be sticking to the car IMHO.

While I don't have a black car but mine is dark enough to seem dirty easily too. I do the things mentioned above and had worked well for me.

Good luck!

You're 100% right, I just haven't had the chance to realy do the resaerch on which one to get. I don't want to get a cheap one and scratch up the paint as I slide the chamy down the hood and such. The absorber to me seems pretty useless, unless it works in which case go for it!

All I know is that the duster and the Quick Detailer is what keeps me looking brand new! I love the combo and tell everyone about it.

Recently though I haven't had the time to tak care of the Rex that much due to work and school... ohh wait, you guys don't give a flying f_ck!

The quick detailer stuff is definitely good. I used to use Mother's Showtime.

And remember to always wet the chamois prior to using it to dry the car. (dry chamois is pretty abrasive)
Hondakilla 05-24-2002 05:32 PM

Get a chamois for sure and then instead of a California WaterBlade just use an old windshield wiper...i thought of that after $25 for the Blade:rolleyes: I dont really care if the glass gets water spots on it cuz its easier to get them off glass then the rest of it...I just use glass cleaner after i wash and dry anyway. Then RainX :)
DustinR 05-24-2002 06:50 PM

well i don't have a black car and didn't get one for the reason you are posting. I do however use Zaino polish(makes the car like one big teflon pan) and wash it once a week. Wash it nice then shammy(i have no concern for how things are spelled) it down and call it a day. The bene of a shammy over any other towels is that you don't get the lint. btw... don't for get to soak the shammy first then ring it out then use it:)

The absorber works very well. I also have Griots garage Speed Shine. You spray it on between car washes so you only have to wash it once every 2 weeks. When I got my car, the dealer washed it without telling me in the little gas station $1 wash, and my whole car has swirl marks, evrywhere. Its only a week old. Got any solutions?

Just so no one scratches up their car do not wax your car dirty. I know this should be obvious but just thought it should be mentioned since this post says to wax and then wash and I believe you should wash and then wax.
Hondakilla 05-30-2002 12:59 AM

Hey dubRexn,

Try Meguires swirl remover that stuff works great then make sure u keep it waxed and dont go rallying alot and u'll have a great finish:)

I think my aspen white is no better than your black......I got a lot of brake dust all over the body. I tried very hard on cleaning them but came on again in couple of days.
I know the brake dust is very easy to show on white....any body has good idea to stay away those sh..ty brake dust(small tiny orange dots...like rust)....! thks!

costco or sams club used to sell them, maybe try walmart too.....it works really good and prevents your towels from getting soaked real fast!!!!!

well, i have owned several black cars, and i can say that they can be difficult to keep looking clean. all you really have to do though, is wash the car like you normally would, making sure you rinse ALL the soap off. when you are finished, go over the car with a chamois once to get all the big drops, then go over it AGAIN for good measure, wringing it out often. i recommend a natural chamois. i have owned the synthetic ones, and they work, but they seem to pick up a lot of dirt which can scratch your paint. black cars require a lot of attention if you want them to look good all the time, but in the end, it just means you'll wash your car more often, and that, my friend, is a good thing...

Best stuff I've ever seen, but takes a LONG time to make perfect. Do a search you'll see what I mean.
