clear side markers installed great!

got them from procarparts and was able to install them very easy, thanks to the great instructions you guys post here. i also disabled my DRLs (good riddance!) at that. :D
the clear side markers do give the rex a 'unique look' specially on silver.
for those who have clear side markers, did you guys still use the stock bulb? i plan on changing the bulb to an orange colored one or at least get those 'bulb condoms' to cover over the bulb and tint it orange. your thoughts guys?
tnx!

My son put clear markers on his '00 2.5RS. It looks great at night with the clear bulbs. Don't put orange, leave it alone. I put carbon fiber side markers on my '03 REX.
That's my 2 cents.

tnx. i wanted to put amber back in it as i read about some people getting into problems with cops.
did your son have any bad experiences i.e., getting pulled over because of the clear markers?
i was looking at different bulbs though (168s) - have you or your son used the LED replacement ones?

No trouble yet and it's about a year - we did it to my wife's '02 2.5RS also.
As far as bulbs, I don't know. You can ask him. His forum name is ERAAB212 and he's far more knowledgeable than I am.

Let me echo what I've posted previously. I just installed the replica clear side markers (Procarparts, Gruppe-S, etc), and frankly I'm a little disappointed in them, EVEN IF they only cost $25 shipped.
1- Not even the same shape as OEM. So do not conform to body indentation correctly.
2- From past posts, it seems advisable to use Factory wiring harness, right? It doesn't fit properly and must do some additional 'engineering' to fit them in place (read: Dremel new slot).
I guess it depends on what your expectations are. I expected OEM fit, if not quality, and didn't get it. The opaque JDM side markers would be more to my liking, HOWEVER...
I do like the crystal clear lenses. I lightly sprayed high temp silver paint on the amber bulbs and like the clean look on my Alpine White wagon (plus they shine bright amber when on). But I am definitely disappointed in the quality and extra work it took to get them to fit correctly.
Like I said, just my .02.

Scaed: Are the clear sides you are talking about from Procarparts?
They sound like the cheapy ones I bought off ebay which, as you said, need to be fitted to the bulb harness. Mine fit bad and melted eventually.
But I then I bought the Procarparts version and while they aren't the highest quality part I've ever bought, they fit nice and the bulb harness matched the slots perfect. The best cheapos out there in my oppinion.

I bought mine from Procarparts and not only do they fit great, they were shipped with orange replacement bulbs.

Yeah the ebay ones are crap I bought them and the harnesses melted in a week. I dremmeled the factory plug into them and they have been fine ever since..

I got the Gruppe-S clear corners not the procarparts. I looked at both and the pictures looked the same and I assumed they were. Procarparts didn't respond to my email, so I ordered the Gruppe-S. Buyer beware, I guess.
FWIW, these came with new harnesses and amber bulbs, too.

As one who started a post on this same subject a short time ago, I still haven't decided which clear side markers I want. I have seen the ProCarParts/GRUPPE-S markers and think they look alright, but haven't installed them, so I'm not sure if I'll be satisfied with the fit. And although I'm sure the JDM markers will fit perfectly, I haven't seen them in person, so I don't know if they are going to be too WHITE for the look I'm after.

Wait, so for the procarparts one, they give you an orange bulb so it can still be legal?
And there is no cutting of wires or splicing or anything? The wiring remains completely stock?

If this helps, here's what the Gruppe-S side markers look like on Alpine White. Factory harness. Gruppe-S amber lights (lightly sprayed with high temp silver paint). Dremel'd corner lights so factory harness would fit.

wrlvr,
glad to hear you got a good pair too - just like i did, the fitment is great and had no problem whatsoever installing it. :D
i guess there are just some batches of these that aren't built good, since they are mass produced (not much quality control).

Yep- the ProCarParts ones I bought fit the factory bulb harness perfect with no alteration. Wiring remains stock. Of course I had to patch up my wiring after removing the ebay cheapos I bought (those required that you splice in their harness, which quickly melted).

I bought some clear side markers from eBay and they suck. I don't even want to go into detail about what is wrong with them. I am also in the market for a new pair and frankly i'm pissed off this guy SCAED is talking bad about the clears from procarparts when he bought them from gruppe-s. So, I want to know what is the deal SCAED you ever buy clears from procarparts? If not how do you feel you can critize procarparts because of something you got from gruppe-s???

I bought some off E-bay and they were ok. Not the best fit but they looked better then stock orange. After 6 months 1 side split in half, right down the middle seam. I guess a rock hit it or something. Definitely not high quality stuff. I have my stockers back on currently. Anyone want to buy 1/2 pair (cheap)?

I said I was mistaken. Since your post I noted that I have the gruppe-s lights, not the procarparts, and hopefully most sane readers have garnered the same info. I lumped them together until I learned differently.
I should've bought the procarparts. I should've bought the procarparts. I should've bought the procarparts. That enough of an endorsement?

Can't help it... my clears are like yours not very impresive at all. I am looking to get them replaced perhaps with procarparts but i'm honestly not a big fan of their diamond cut. So, when I read all this conflicting advice I get upset and take it all out on you. Hey what are friends for.

Yeah, I know what you mean, no worries. Once we live in utopia, have unlimited incomes and can spend any amount of money we want we'll always be suckers for a shiny $25 clear corner light. :D

So...just to be clear. Gruppe-S clear markers are NOT the same as the Procarparts ones.
Procarparts ones fit well, use stock harness, and come with amber bulbs
Procarparts is sometimes hard to get hold of, but keep trying. Once you get hold of them, they're great.

you said you disabled the DRLs, are those the daytime running lights(duh) and if so HOW???? was it easy, or reversable?
| wrxvin | 02-28-2003 03:01 PM |
I was able to purchase the side markers from procarparts through ebay. They had a buy now option of $18 plus shipping. I noticed there were other ones listed later also from them. The price on there site is higher (around $25 I think) and when I spoke to someone there, they said the $18 price is only valid if you go through ebay. There are many side markers listed but just find the ones listed by them (There seller name is "procarparts1.com" I believe). I've just installed mine and everything seems fine. The fitment is almost as good as the OEM pair and it does come with the amber bulbs if you want to use them. Hope this helps.

very, very easy! didn't even have to remove the glovebox. i actually got the thread on how to disable it from here. there's a connection to the DRL module just behind the glovebox and i pulled the connector out and that's it.
do a search for 'disabling daytime running lights' and one of the posts there even shows detailed pics of what to remove. and yes, it's completely reversible. i'll put mine back come winter time again :D
