Cool Blue MadDad(TM) V2 Rx gauges? part 1

Cool Blue MadDad(TM) V2 Rx gauges?
Hey folks,

Some people know about the recent introduction of the Clarity V2 Rx gauge series, which is available right now in a Green/Green-Dimmed(day/night) color combo. Designed to be the only true factory cluster matched gauges.

We've had a few people in the past ping us about doing a gauge with blue backlighting so we had our manufacturing partner put together a sample of what a Blue LED version of a V2 Rx gauge would look like. There is lots of info in various threads on the feature set of the gauges themself. My reason for this post is to just talk a pluse of how popular a Blue series might. We have to manufacture serveral hundred gauges at a time so knowing there will be some takers would be nice :)

Note: this pic was taken outside in full ambiant light. In low light the blue is a bit more saturated, though not crazy so. The gauges have a separate wire that goes to the factory illumination fuse so the gauge knows when to lower the contrast to not be too overly bright at night.

Here is a pic of the existing green versions as well:

A quick feature summary:
*CPU stepper motor needle movement
*Power-On needle sweep/test on all gauges
*Dimmable(fixed) at night
*Pre-set warning lamps set to well accepted WRX/STi thresholds.
*All electronic design including the boost.

Let me know what your folks think about the Blue.

how bout a link to the site lol

I like the look of the blue display.

I used to own a VW and one thing I really miss about it is the blue/red display on the gauges, etc. for nighttime driving it seemed easier to read and wasnt as hard on the eyes as the green and orange in my OBS.

Not that these gauges would matter for me...

The blue looks great! Now I kinda wish I had waited a bit for the V2's, but I still love my V1 clarity gauges :) Keep making great stuff!

The Blue is definately something I'm liking quite a bit. I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger on them yet but I'm close. I think they go great with any WRB WRX :)

If your a Clarity V1 owner we've been planning an upgrade offer and will put out an email soon once we have the color variety in production to serve everyone.

I was trying to install my V2 Rx boost gauge today and the "T" it came with seems a little small for the bypass valve hose. Should I ise that hose anyway? The "T" seems like it will fit the hoses on the passenger side of the intercooler can I use any of them?

It's a good fit for T'ing off the BOV line for the intercooler. I haven't T'd in anywhere else with it personally. If your afraid it coming loose where you intend to use it, I would then recommend grabbing a couple of small hose clamps from the Home Depot or local hardware store, but if you haven't cut any lines yet just do it over at the BOV line.

I think you'll be quite happy, and I pulled the trigger tonight and committed to a small production. I think once a few people have them and see them they will catch on. We will see. Might have them in the next 6-8 weeks.

The blue looks sharp. Now if some would offer pre-modded instrament clusters in blue...
kunfuzion 06-10-2006 01:02 AM

are the maddad gauges ever going to be available in 60mm?
Daddy's SCP 06-10-2006 11:27 AM
are the maddad gauges ever going to be available in 60mm?
When the Ultra series are released they will have 60mm faces with 52mm backsides for more mounting options. After we get all the colors out in the 52mm Rx series we will do a 60mm most likey in the white/green combo, but that's a good number of months away.

I installed my boost gauge today and when I turn the ignition switch to on (motor of car is off) the gauge doesn't sit at 0. Some times it is off as much as 1.5psi. Is this a problem?

My bad on the tripple post don't know how that happened. MODS please delete the first 2.
WRXDriftR 06-13-2006 12:38 PM

OMG OMG triple post!! just kidding. i had a boost gauge that didnt quite sit at 0 either. bump for answer
Daddy's SCP 06-13-2006 03:49 PM

The short answer is pretty easy, we just sent him a new gauge :) . Long term we'll check out his gauge when we get it back to see what the situation is. If a gauge is off by plus/minus .5 psi or so that's not totally unusual since they can go through some shock in international shipping, but if someone has a gauge that is off by 1.5 psi you don't have to ask us twice.

Actually you can't order yet. We started this thread to get a feel for the interest in them. It's a nitch market for Blue, but as most people are aware the MadDad brand is all about being different so keeping with the theme I already gave the blue the go a head. We'll have them in about 6 weeks at the same time we receive the White/Green combo versions that some are looking for. I'll be updating the website soon so you can make a pre-order for the Blue. The more I drive with both blue and green in my car the more I really like the blue. It's different but not too blingy with this gauge face design.

lol kick butt man as SOON as your able to pre order these give me a pm if you can, I cant wait, the blue looks Very very very nice. Im very glad I didnt order any gauges yet.
sjs0433 06-15-2006 04:35 PM

+1 for the blue....now I wish subaru could pick any other color to do the stock gauge cluster other than green. They really should do it like the legacy gt and make it pretty white :p or orange or blue, just something other than green for a change....i don't care if green is easiest on the eyes
Daddy's SCP 10-17-2006 05:22 PM

This is an old thread but I thought I'd just mention the Blue V2 RX, and the White(no backlighting)/Green V2 Rx gauges will be arriving in stock late tomorrow so they will be shipping later this week.
wouldnt white/green be more of a match to stock?
Yes, but there are a decent number of folks who have (or will soon after seeing these) convert their cluster to blue as well. I think these look very sharp, it would be real nice change for a WRX IMO.
