Custom Paint jobs? Pics? part 1

Custom Paint jobs? Pics?
I'm looking for pics of people's cars with non-OEM paint jobs. I'm probably gonna get mine resprayed this summer if money allows. Probably a deeper metallic silver/platinum. Looking for non-photoshopped examples. Give the paint code or what vehicle it's from too.
ZAP 04-18-2003 04:10 PM

I don't think I've ever seen a GD in the famous
steel blue mica. And I love The color, it would
be different but would still be a subaru color.
Oh buy the way the color code is 86F I think.
do a search for steel blue mica and there has
gotta be some pictures on here of the hue.
good luck

That Ferrari job looks sweeet, even covered in snow. Heck, I'd like it even if it didn't have Ferrari attached to it. :D Hate to know what it cost though.

Some really nice looking color choices here. Except maybe that green.

No it's not. It's blue ridge pearl or for us, Deep Blue Mica. Reddish Blue is lighter and is the same as Pacifica Blue on the Forrester and 2004 RS.

blkmjx just painted his wagon Porsche Seal Grey. Not quite as nice as grigio titanio, but I think the Porsche heritage thing is cool.

 I agree. I was referring to the dark blue colored car you posted a picture of. The one you thought was reddish blue mica. Reddish blue mica is brought back for 2003 (04 for you North America people). Do you recall that you could get blue ridge pearl in the US for the RS/TS models?

The green and gold ones are a little too outregeous for my liking. The "ferrari" silver one on the other hand is beautiful. I wanna see some variations of red.
128d 04-21-2003 02:23 PM

I love the color on Ti-REX's car.
digitaltekniq 04-21-2003 02:24 PM

How much is it gonna cost to paint the entire car - I am asking because I am seriously considering a respray.

I am guessing they don't strip the whole car to the metal first, but remove the clearcoat and rough up the underlying paint to aid in bonding.

Anyway, a general idea of the cost from a good body shop would be great.

Cheers
PPower 04-21-2003 03:14 PM

A good paint job should cost a couple thousand dollars. Different things will affect the price like painting in the engine compartment and painting the door jams. If you start out with silver (like Ti-Rex), the color isn't that different so you can get away with not painting those areas. The cost of your paint also is part of it. Best bet would be for you to just go to a good body shop in your area and ask them about labor and some prices on paint. I ASSUME that Ferrari paint is pretty expensive.
bleuquila 04-21-2003 04:12 PM

This car is owned by Budi, the dir of marketing at Cobb Tuning, I hope he doesn't mind if I post this here, but I think that his paint job is one of the most drop-dead sexy colors I've ever seen on a WRX :)

That is precisely the look I am going for...gorgeous. Well, if I decide to keep the car for another couple of years, I guess I could get it done

Makes me wish it was a factory option colour, the STI would look amazing in that colour.
PPower 04-21-2003 06:59 PM

Is it just me or does it seem like there is a demand for a darker gray color? I for one would want it over all the others.
spike 04-22-2003 03:55 AM

i second that....a darker gray would look excellent.
I ASSUME that Ferrari paint is pretty expensive.
The paint will cost you no more than a Kia color. Most body shops can mix any color from any car. They will need a paint code but that is not hard to aquire. For example, on my bike I have Mercedes, Audi, Subaru, and Hyaundi colors. All mixed at the shop.

But if you do change colors, a good paint job is going to cost you. There is allot of work that goes into it. Removing glass, bumpers, painting door jambs, under the hood and trunk, etc....

Well, sometimes the actual paint can cost more depending on the manufacturer, in an autobody class I was in in high school, we built a 29 ford hot rod and paintied it Porsche red and that paint was MAD expensive. I know red is more expensive than other colors, but this was more than any regular red. So I'd imagine a Ferrari paint is more expensive than a typical manufacturer's.
128d 04-22-2003 03:44 PM

^
I believe what he was getting at was that when you have a shop mix a color for you it will usialy end up cheaper than if you bought it straight for the car company. My buddy was planing on getting his rex painted McLaren racing orange, and the said less than 4k for the paint and actual painting. That doesnt sound bad at all.

my 93L also ghetto-garage painted Charcoal Metallic. Impreza's from 93 only came in nasty colors (teal, ugly pink red, etc.) Mine was purple before the repaint.

I wouldn't getting mine repainted WRB in 2 years. But of course, with much better quality.

Just had mine re-painted a little darker blue, they wrecked my paint at work, so a free re-spray for me.
