Ebay burn..... part 1

joshuagore 08-03-2004 03:13 PM

Ebay burn.....
Well I was looking for a scoop to replace my stock 02 scoop. I need to feed teh APS top mount MORE AIR!!!!

So I found this....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2485566396&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT

I noticed it looked allot like the 04 sti scoop, so I emailed and asked. And once again I was re assured it was infact a 02-03 scoop.

So I bought it and well, obviously I got burned. I havnt put it on the front holes seam to line up but the rear of it doesnt line up.

Anyone modified one of these to fit yet?
spacenut999 08-03-2004 03:23 PM

Have you tried to email and inform him that he was wrong and you'd be glad to return it to him for relisting once he returned your money and shipping costs? You could also submit a claim with ebay. If the product is significantly different than described you can be eligible for getting your money back. This may be 'significant' in Ebay's mind since it has a different bolt pattern.

If you modify it to fit, you will get own3d in the process unless you have a HIGH degree of skill. Leave the guy a nasty feedback since what the write up says isn't what it is and get your money back. :(
Davenow 08-03-2004 04:53 PM

Lets see here, the pic SHOWS an obviously 04 STI scoop, the seller is an idiot and lists it as an 02-03, you ask him and then are dumb enough to BELIEVE that he has any idea what it is?
The pic clearly showed an 04 scoop. Its just as much your fault as the seller.
joshuagore 08-03-2004 05:40 PM

Davenow, your the idiot ebayer who posts contradicting picture/descriptions and then blames the seller.

I hardly see how that picture is clear, especially for someone who doesn't own a 04 or hasn't studied hood scoops. I thought it was a possibility there was a 04 look scoop for 03's which shared the 04 look but 03 mounts. Its not so hard to believe. Actually the front of it(which is the only thing visible) fits perfect. The rear which isn't visible doesn't fit.

I dont really plan to modify it but the option is still there. It could work.

not everyone is as well versed in hoodscoops as you may BELIEVE.
imo, he asked the correct questions and got dicked over by the seller.
maybe not a deliberate dicking over, but annoying none the less.

josh,
i think that you should contact the seller, ship it back and get a refund.
if he balks you can alwayse back out your credit card payment and claim fraud. let the credit card company deal with the bastard.
CatchMyDrift 08-03-2004 05:48 PM

Should have just bought this one bro....a little more $$$ but worth every penny...

That doesnt even make sense. Try again, funny not found. I have ZERO negative feedback. And had nothing to do with your idiocy. You didnt buy it from me douchebag.

SO you lack the ability to look at THIS website, see that an 02-03 scoop looks NOTHING like an 04 scoop (the squared opening is 100% obvious and is the dead giveaway of it being an 04) and then buys it anyway.
You owned yourself. No one to blame but yourself. You dont KNOW the guy didnt know it was an 04 scoop. Ad there is no way he knew it was an 04 scoop because if he was scamming you he would have posted pics of an 02-03 scoop. Not to mention, that why would he intentionally misrepresent it as an 02-03 scoop anyway? There are plenty of buyers out there for an 04 sti scoop. Nothing to be gained by lieing about it. He simply didnt know what he had. Buyer beware is a saying older than any of us. Dont come here pissing and moaning because you, who were not really sure what you were looking at, didnt bother to do any research.

SOrry man. I have a zero tolerance policy for stupidity. Hang out here long enough, answer enough dumb questions, and watch enough guys like this come in, cry, then leave and never come back (while adding nothing worthwhile to the forum) within a month.

lol i love testy people makes everything so exciting. ill give some advice. dont leave bad feedback because he will just send it back to u and say u are a lier. just try to resell on the forum or ebay. thats your best bet. only put negative feedback if he sends it to u to stay away from problems. trust me tahts best route. i dont know why he lied to u know. or why he didnt know when he was selling it i am not sure.

I'd still like to see a response to spacenut's question.

joshuagore 08-03-2004 08:32 PM

I would never leave negative feedback until he responds to my emails. He probably isnt trying to rip me off he probably just didnt know. Or thought it was the one I thought it was, in the picture posted above.

I dont think your actually a bad ebayer(dave), and I dont think this guy is either. He made a mistake, he I am sure will correct it and I will get refunded and send the scoop back. My search will go on and everyone will be happy.

"Dont come here pissing and moaning because you, who were not really sure what you were looking at, didnt bother to do any research."

Pissing and moaning? The only person pissing and moaning is you.

"Anyone modified one of these to fit yet?"

I believe thats what my original goal with this post.

Thanks guys for the help in locating the picture of what I thought I was getting. Better luck next time anyone need a 04 scoop?
ajabobrut 08-03-2004 09:15 PM

I had kinda the same thing happen to me on ebay, but a different product.I bought a slip on muffler for my bike, the seller had a display picture that Yamaha uses to sell this muffler. He had it listed as being BRAND NEW never been installed, well by the looks of the box i knew that something wasn't gonna be right.

Once i opened the box you can smell exhaust fumes,i pulled it out and the muffler was scratched up had some bad gouging on the back side.Ray Charles could tell that this was used and had been installed. You could tell on the muffler strap where the nut tightens there was marks that it was installed.I contacted Ebay they said they would look into it.I wanted to leave neg. but i knew he would do it to me.This guy is a real Dick, how can anybody use the words BRAND NEW to sell used parts and get away with it.He'll get his in the end.

goto "exterior" then "scoops & Vents"

You can own this scoop that will fit on your 2002 WRX perfectly.. and yes, that is "un-modded".. for a mere $263AU ($184.83US)

IMPREZA GUY 08-04-2004 01:00 AM

you have it, might as well go to a shop and have it moddified to fit.
joshuagore 08-04-2004 02:06 AM

I wasnt looking to bad mouth the guy, hes cool in my eyes for right now. I was just looking for suggestions. Maybe someone knew of someone who used this on a 02 i dont know I posted it for insight.
CatchMyDrift 08-04-2004 02:37 AM

I recently bought a carbon fiber hood for my GC and the company sent me a scoop fitting the 02 03 WRX. The scoop was too wide for the GC hole. My point is, maybe someone could measure the demensions of the 02 03 WRX scoop and the 04 Sti scoop. If the measurments are the same, all you have to do is drill new holes. Is the underside of both scoops the same?
joshuagore 08-04-2004 10:18 AM

No its different, actually it could work with some modifying but there are gaps on both sides of the scoop. Which from far away are nothing but close up are obvious, and ghetto. I dont really care about hte looks I just dont want to drill 4 big holes in my hood unless I have to.

Josh
am3rican 08-04-2004 11:13 AM

why would you be willing to bend over and take it up the ass cuz some moron/******* dicked you over? if you have proof, which you obviously do, let ebay or your credit card company handle the situation. it was a clear case of false advertisement. i would not even consider modding it or drilling holes into my car because some douchebag sent me the wrong part. leave the neg feedback. **** him.
AccidenT 08-04-2004 11:42 AM

Cliffnotes of this thread:

joshuagore: "I wanted to replace the stock hood scoop with something that lets in more air"

Davenow: "OMG I can't believe you didn't know it wasn't what you wanted! It obviously doesn't look the same as the stock one"

Everyone else:

So, Davenow, why on earth would he want to be looking for something that looks exactly like the stock hood scoop if he cleary wants something different?
joshuagore 08-05-2004 10:52 AM

Ok he emailed me back, he deny's hes guilty of any misdoing. Says the scoop came from a 03 STI, but says hes in the US and says the cars from the US. So then I explained the obvious about 03 STI's in the US.

Well long story short, he will refund the purchase price but not the $22 shipping. So basically he will send me my $125 but not the total $147.

I made it clear that if for some reason this was of a 03 STI(outside the us as in JDM)
Than it is still wrong that he put 02 and still wrong that he didnt label it a JDM product. Its like buying a dvd and finding out its in french and them not stating it.
joshuagore 08-05-2004 10:56 AM

Ohh almost forogt, he said I had to ship first. He wouldnt refund my money until I shipped(and he recieved). Kinda seams unfair considering I sent him money befor he shipped, and I am not the one in the wrong. I would think if I were in the situation of being wrong in a description or wrong in some way through ebay I would want to correct it with as little impact to the buyer as possible. I know I shouldnt demand more than I am deserved, but you know he didnt pay $22 for shipping, and its not like I am charging him for shiping it back.

Josh
CatchMyDrift 08-05-2004 12:40 PM

Tell him you dont have the money to ship the scoop and need at least half + the cost of shipping to feel the deal is safe.
