Ebay Seats: To do or not to do

i know its been "discussed" many times but honestly i find every thread absolutlely pointless cause its just everyone saying they are cheap, yet only 2% of the people have actually had experience with them, there are too many people that just assume if its off ebay it sucks which has been proven wrong buy the inlet pipe, intercoolers, etc.
I have RS seats in my04 wrx, and they are decent but they arent up to what i want them to be, im between keeping them and buying ebay seats.
Everyone says there gonna snap, break, etc. but i find it hard to believe a seat will come undone if installed correctly, this is why im considering the fixed back red ebay ones

The only problem i have with these is the red which i find kinda ricey but if they work i could care less, and then mounting im guessing i will have to make my own brackets, then theres these

Also considering these in the cloth but i cant find the listing right now. I like these much better but they are 2 piece so there is the chance that they are weaker than the fixed back seats, also the include sliders and they are bottom mounted rather than side mounted so fabbing up a brakcet should be easier.
Basically im looking for input and experience from people who have had these or just experienced with them and hopefully other people will learn from th is aswell, and i dont want people saying just save up a buy better seats, cause i dont make that much money and that kinda defeats the purpose of these seats at all.

Do you have a harness? I have stock 06 WRX seats and a 4 point scroth harness. I can go around corners, do donuts, etc, and stay planted in my seat. If you don't have a harness, I'd suggest getting one of those before you get a new seat.
It's not so much the seat coming undone as much as if you're in an accident, how much force can those seats withstand before their structural integrity is compromised.

It's not necessarily that the seats will come loost from their mountings in an accident, it's that they could bend or even break in an accident. The amount of force in an accident is huge, I remember seeing videos where they simulated the force and it was bending stock seats in half!
I wouldn't risk a replica seat.

try them and give a feedback.

they dont give any dimensions on those seats ..
how do you know they will fit you?
also - bracket/sliders not included so you have to buy or fab something.
i have a set of the ebay seats (not these from this vendor - reclining ones) i was going to put into my crx, and they are OK quality - but not solid like OEM. i dont drive the car enough so i decided to just stick with stock.. they are going on craigslist as soon as i can take some pics.

I used to work for a quality seat manufacturer and I can tell you that imitation seats are not worth playing with. Seats are a safety device not only a styling item. Think about it this way, your seat will sustain approximately 3500 lbs of force during a moderate collision, if you want to see what will happen to that cheap ebay seat, buy one, build an apature for it, and pull on the back with 3500 lbs of force starting from zero. As you increase your pull force on the seat, I can almost guarantee that before 2500, that seat will fatigue and lose integrity. Or better yet, just pull the fabric off of it and check the internal construction and compare it to your stock seat. You get what you pay for, there is a reason why they use RECARO on aircrafts and not EBAY seats. Why do you see a SPARCO seat in formula and not something else? Bell has a campaign that says something to the effect of if you have a cheap head, then use a cheap helmet. If you think your internal organs and life are cheap, then use a cheap seat. I have seen images of a failed seat in a conversion van with a person snapped in the middle and seperated, do you want to be like that in your Subie?

I used to have a set of Corbeau Forza seats in my escort. They're some of the cheapest FIA approved (at the time) racing seats that you could buy from a reputable company.. and they hardly held up to a year of daily driving. OEM seats are extremely tough. The fabric, foam and webbing/springs are all chosen because they hold up for many years. How much do you think the makers of the cheapo ebay seats care about that? What kind of insurance do you have that the cheapo seats use strong enough steel not to break into jagged pieces during a wreck? I wouldn't like to spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair because I decided to go ultra cheap on the seats and end up with a piece of cheap Taiwanese steel in my spine after a minor wreck.

Buyer beware on ebay. You usually get what you pay for. Check the feedback on the seller to be sure. Seats look good btw.

I had Corbeou seats which are definatly better than ebay garbage and after about 2 months they literally started to fall apart. After the first month the squeeking got so bad you could not even drive the car with out blasting the radio. DO NOT GEt EBAY SEATS. Even if they pay you to put them in your car.

i wouldnt sit in a parked car with eBay seats. let alone ride or drive in one.

I can see how you could argue that most people do not have experience with ebay seats so they shouldn't be allowed input. I'm sure there is a decent seat on ebay that could withstand an accident, but the problem is guessing which one does. Recaro and sparco are very expensive because of the testing they do on their seats. R&R costs tons and also because they have been reputable there is no doubt that they pad the prices quite a bit. An ebay maker usually doesn't put much into R&R because they copy the structure of "brand" name seat makers. That is how their seats could be so freaking cheap. What I'm trying to say is just because the seats are cheap doesn't make it weak. The problem is finding out which seats are cheap and not weak...
Hmmm I wonder if all that just made sense.

Hey man,
Since so far the response has not been about ebay seats, I'll go ahead and respond. I had installed a set in my 00 civic. Used them for about a year. Comfortable, sharp looking, paid about $300 for the pair. They were not these exact seats.
Negatives: They said a sparco bracket would work; they lie. I had to fab my own. The backs were the reclining type, and the joints and reclining mechanism were cheap. If you pulled on the seat, it would flex. Not alot, but no where near as strong as the stock seats. The sliding mechanism was cheaply built as well. They were also about 5lbs heavier than my stockers. Going forward, I would recommend going with a reputable retailer of name brand seats. Corbeau has some entry level seats now that are very reasonable. Based on my experience while some things on Ebay are great deals, many of the "its too good to be true" usually are with the knockoffs. While these seats looked great, I would not go that way again.
That's my $.02.

Finally some info thats more convincing than "these seats suck."
You guys are right its not worth putting my life into a seat thats very weak just to save $600 or so. Im going to have to get a harness to see if that helps

A friends stereo shop had a customer car in the bay. It was the most riced out v6 mustang ever. Had GTR badges, R34 taillights, stickers, neons, strobes,NOS, lambo doors...and fake seats. Basically the entire pepboys catalog was installed in this car. I got in there just for giggles, and the seats literally felt like they where going to snap in half. And I only weigh 150lbs! They literally give and give when you lean back on them, squeek, and just plain feel unsafe. I am willing to bet these things would snap in 1/2 in a 15mph accident.

I have had a few different seats in my own vehicle, and have had friends with ebay seats. A buddy of mine in high school had cheap ebay seats in his car and broke his back in 2 places in a collision because the seat broke and gouged into his back. He is in a wheelchair to this day after 4 years.
I have owned a corbeau seat which in my opinion are junk because they were worn down within 4 months and even after rebuilding it twice the same problems occurred. I have owned reclinable sparcos which are great. I now am in a recaro spg, which i love. Quality of the fabric and materials should be a afterthought to safety, but if you think your car will be ricy with them new then wait a month when the fabric is sunfaded, the sides are torn, and the foam is broken down. It will not look good.

on a side note you could easily get into a set of sparco sprints for 800 bucks whch are fia approved and have been shown to be a very reliable seat.

ok the sti ones i do have on my 03 wrx. i have had real heavy people sit on them recline them and they don't do anything they are perfectly fine. they come with brackets but they don't work you have to get sparco seat sliders for any aftermarket seats i only paid 130.00 for both sliders. I don't regret getting them as a present from my girl either everyone at car shows love them 2. It's up to you it took me a little over 2 hrs doing everything and you need a resister for your airbag light too.

Well I don't know a ton about seats in general, let alone the ebay ones, but I do have experience buying other products off of ebay and soo far most no-name car stuff for me has been absolute crap. All I can say(as long as we're throwing names) is that the Recaro Blue Suede recliners offer a really sweet hold and they look REALLY nice. I 'feel' like I could hit a wall doing a 100 and have nothing happen when I have those and my 4pt sparco harness on. Recaro makes nice stuff. Sorry I can't help with the ebay stuff, thought I would toss my .02 in there since you aren't going with the ebay stuff.
