F1....Who's Hungry...picks! part 1

F1....Who's Hungry...picks!
Hungry F1 this weekend.

Drama:

Turn 1?

Will anybody pass anyone at this circuit?

Is the BAR vs. Williams drama too much for Button? Will he drive straight?

Opps, did I forget to put fuel in Buttons car?

Another Ferrari domination?

Race for 2nd in championship?

Picks now!

Here's mine:
M.Schumacher;- master
R.Barrichello; best#2 man in the business
J.Montoya;- go chili dog
K.Raikkonen; - new car, new Kimi
J.Button;- pressure has gotten to him, too much drama to handle
F.Alonso;- good chasis
T.Sato;Mr. kamikaze
D.Coulthard- David who? Oh well, car runs well
BillT 08-12-2004 08:17 AM

I didn't put in a ton of thought into this races picks but here they are:

1. MS - Totally dominant
2. KR - The new car looks to be a legit contender, I just hope they can keep the rear wing on this time
3. RB - Fast, but not fast enough
4. FA - He likes this track and his car likes this track
5. JB - I put this pick in before Button-gate occurred, so maybe he'll end up with the Sato hand gernade engine and DNF
6. JPM - Won't have a good race by his standards
7. DC - the new car helps him into the points
8. MW - A brilliant performance considering the dog he is driving.
BriDrive 08-12-2004 08:25 AM

This will be a McLaren statement weekend...
AndyRoo 08-12-2004 08:48 AM

1. M.Schumacher
2. F.Alonso
3. J.Trulli
4. K.Raikkonen
5. D.Coulthard
6. J.Montoya
7. J.Button
8. G.Fisichella

Button-gate...nice
MattDell 08-12-2004 09:29 AM

I haven't been keeping up since the USGP. Why didn't anyone pick Takuma Sato?
artkevin 08-12-2004 09:34 AM

Ill take Taco for 4th.
Im still waiting for pics of the new nose on the Williams and if BAR lets Button race.
heffergm 08-12-2004 09:41 AM

Nobody picked Takuma because, since he's been blowing up so many motors, BAR have detuned his to the point where he's not competitive. Without the grunt, all that drive to get to the front that Taku has isn't gonna get him anywhere.
skuttledude 08-12-2004 10:07 AM

Franks new nose:

1. M. Schumacher
2. K. Raikkonen
3. F. Alonso
4. R. Barrichello
5. J. Button
6. J. Trulli
7. D. Coulthard
8. T. Sato

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. I just don't think the de-walurused Williams has what it takes, never mind that Montoya isn't even getting the best car, because they don't want to show him the good stuff, as they have next year in mind. And the Pizza Man still hasn't shown me that he has the mojo on race day.

But look at last year, compared to this year. Ferrari got spanked because the longer car was completely unsuited for the Hungaroring. This year, the shorter, more nimble car also has the best tires, and the best driver. Raikkonen will be right there, however.

Qualifying will be extremely important, as important as it is at Monaco, and you might see some pretty wacky pit strategies.

1 J. Trulli
2 M. Schumacher
3 R. Barrichello
4 F. Alonso
5 J.P. Montoya
6 D Coultard
7 T. Sato
8 M. Webber

I think the Renaults can get in front and frustrait Schumy, and then no one can pass. Alonso seems a bit off the pace this year so I have him 4th. McLaren has improved their speed, but not their reliablity so I don't expect Raikkonen to finish.

I think Button will mysteriously get stuck with Sato's engine ... :p

Which team won Monaco this year, and Hungary last year?
Ya know, it's Renault!

Alonso - Ascending back to form vs. team-mate.
Trulli - Will keep Fernando honest!
Button - 2nd half of the season, and BAR still has the 2nd best handling Michelin shod chassis.
Sato - Hungary is not a horsepower track, and if Takuma doesn't toss it off, he'll bag points.
Schumacher - It's hot, it's Budapest, it's Michelin time! Michael grabs some points, nonetheless!
Barrichello - Rubens will wake up and drive.
Raikkonen - McLaren is coming to grips with the chassis, but rain during practice makes it difficult.
Montoya - New nose, no testing, chassis balance is critical... could be Weber grabbing this point instead.
Oldie but goody....

The Ferrari Formula 1 Team fired their entire pit crew yesterday, ahead of this weekend's Grand Prix. The announcement followed Ferrari's decision to take advantage of The British Government's "Work for the Dole" scheme and employ Scousers.

The decision to hire them was brought on by a recent documentary on how unemployed youths from Toxteth were able to remove a set of wheels in less than six seconds without proper equipment, whereas Ferrari's Existing crew could only do it in eight seconds with millions of pounds worth of high tech equipment.

It was thought to be an excellent, bold move by the Ferrari management.

As most races are won and lost in the pits, Ferrari would have an advantage over every team. However, Ferrari got more than they bargained for. At the crew's first practice, not only was the Scouse pit crew able to change the Tyres in under six seconds but within 12 seconds they had re-sprayed, re-badged and sold the vehicle over to the McLaren team for eight Cases of Stella, a bag of weed and some photos of Coulthard's bird in the shower.

Man that was like watching paint dry. All props to the Scuderia but that was just painful. Compared to Germany there was no passing, just cars following each other.
cdvma 08-15-2004 12:02 PM

Yea, I used the fast forward button on the TiVo after the first 20 laps...
BillT 08-16-2004 08:57 AM

I have to admit that this was a pretty boring race. The only thing I found remotely interesting was seeing if MS had to pace to put a lap on FA as payback from last year. I felt bad for Kimi (again), but it looked like his car simply didn't have the pace to compete up front and he probably would have settled with 7th or 8th place anyway. BAR was probably the biggest dissapointment of the day - qualified great but couldn't keep the positions. Oh well, hopefully the next race will be better!
Dussander 08-16-2004 09:57 AM

You know it's a boring race when the announcers start in with the, "you may think this is boring, but just wait in 10 years when you can tell others how you got to see Michael/Ferrari dominate." yawn. The speed commitators repeating the same stories over and over.
David Hobbs: that's not politically correct. Montoya just rings the neck of whatever he drives. Every driver should go nuts when they win. watch Alonso crank this wheel.
Steve Matchett: that Renault is going to be awesome once it gets the power up. the one engine rule for the weekend sucks. the Renault team told me...
Bob Varsha: (general gushing over Michael) <insert driver> has really poor fashion sense. Michael has this crazy statistic someone just handed to me. try Michael's line.

The most boring.....Formula 1 race.....ever
AttaQ 08-16-2004 02:45 PM

I agree, this was not a very exciting race at all.

The dominance Ferrari is showing reminds me a little of the Bulls of the mid-ninties. When they went 72-10, it was this kind of feeling - like they were going to win every time and when they lost it was almost like a fluke or they had a really off game. That is the way it seems now when Ferrari doesn't have a 1-2 or 1-3 finish. It feels like someone else got in there almost by accident.

I think the only real question now is - will anyone step up and challenge NEXT year, because this year is a lost cause for sure.
ArtGecko 08-16-2004 08:22 PM

60 points! I'd say nice guessing, but you're too consistent to be guessing.
<----Not consistent...

Steve (31 points)
[edit: can't even spell "consistent" consistently!]
