Yep, a WRX did well in DS and STX!
WRXhauls 02-25-2002 07:34 AM

Interesting results!

Fastest stock class time - FS in a 01 Mustang. Quite an accomplishment.

GS was won by a guy named Rick Cone. Also a RS took 4th in GS, but the time would have been tops in DS over the WRXs
KC 02-25-2002 08:23 AM

WTG Scoobies! Need to remember that it rained down there. Wherther some runs were dryer than other may lead to the disparity in times between classes, and heck, even within the class.

I think it only natural that the Scoobs did well in the rain... those that had some tread depth to their tires. :D

Funny comment: look at what Pat Salerno drove in SM. :D Pontiac Firechicken.

It was very rainy all day Sat., by the time the 3rd & 4th run groups started the temperature was also falling rapidly...from around 65 degrees in the morning to 48 by the time the last group finished up. In addition to dealing with the changing temperatures, the and the rain in regards to driving style...us drivers also had to deal with being wet from working! By the time I went to drive my shoes & socks were soaked through!

I proved quite convincingly that AWD can spin too! I spun on 2 of my three runs in the rain on Saturday...then picked up 2 cones on the run I didn't spin!

On Sunday it was great weather, sunny and dry and in the 60's all day. Times improved greatly! I didn't do too badly....:)
z3coupe 02-25-2002 09:37 AM

Hey Opie, how do I get to be a member of the Subaru AutoX Team USA like it says you are? So far, I am the only one out here in STX that is serious, along with Derek Punch and Jason Uyeda who are in SM.

The 4th run group (where I was in GS) was the only Sat. group that got nearly-dry runs. The rain stopped during the 3rd group action, and the racing line was mostly dry by the 4th group. I should thank the STS guys for drying the track for me, but I wanted it wet! :) I got two 95% dry runs in before it started raining again. DS was in the 2nd run group, when it was raining the hardest. Check my other post (must have been writing at the same time as z3coupe)...

I've driven that Mustang before. I'm surprised it had fastest stock time -- I mean, it's quick and all, but you can tell how much the rain affected the Z06s!! Chris Lindberg is an awesome driver, but generally Z06s in the hands of a mediocre driver can destroy the best drivers of any other car....

Rick Cone is a very good driver too. His Celica GT is very well set up (uh, yeah, I've driven this car too).

As for the Pontiac "Firechicken....." well, you had to be there to understand where the name came from. ;)

Congrats to all the Subie drivers! Hopefully, I'll be messing around in STX for a few events this year (fingers crossed)....

Not quite. DS was in 2nd heat, while GS was in 4th heat. The rain on Saturday started during the 1st run of the 2nd heat. We got a "sorta dry" run on the 1st one and I was the only one that stuck it when it counted. The rest of the heat was sheit as it was POURING and there was 1/4" standing water on course during those runs. It dried out before 4th heat started and they (GS) got 2 dry runs on the 1st day. Not trying to knock the AWESOME GS runs that were put out by both Rick Cone and Neal Tovsen, not at all, as those guys drove their a$$es off! Good Job and Congrats. Still on Sunday when we all had dry runs Rick Cone kicked all our butts and Neal came oooooooh so close to beating me.

I did stick a 55.9 on my 3rd run in the rainest conditions but I *barely* tapped a cone on it, those cones just jump out at you sometimes. :p I was up 2.1 seconds after the 1st day so I drove cautiously on my 1st run on sunday just because I didnt want to cone away a ez 1st place. I got a nice run the 2nd run, but I left almost a second out there. I went all out on my 3rd run and stuck a 44.3 but overshot the last gate on course so I DNFd.

It was great to see the suberus show up and do well
:D

z3 - Just a title cause I like to autocross! I guess it's a perk for being a moderator...feel free to use it anywhere you please, it's not like SOA is giving me anything to help me out! :)
Scoobie Doogie 02-26-2002 10:20 AM

Someone should look into team hats/shirts for all of us Auto-Xer's. Have the Subaru rally team USA logo with Subaru Auto-X Team USA where the wording is for the Rally Team. Cool. I'd buy a couple. Do I hear Group buy?

Dave
AWMIII 02-26-2002 10:27 AM

And maybe some custom 24k gold pens and stuff ;)
trhoppe 02-26-2002 06:42 PM

I would take a hat. As far as shirts, I have to wear my lucky porshe club racing shirt. Thats why it rained on saturday, I had that shirt on!
Scoobie Doogie 02-27-2002 01:09 AM

Nice try Mr.Bill

See you at the Next Philly event.

z3coupe 02-27-2002 02:23 AM

It would be cool if we could somehow make a semi-official Subaru AutoX USA Team, and then might be able to get Subaru to back us in some way :)
trhoppe 02-27-2002 08:10 AM

Yea that would work. They could laugh at us and void the warranty at the same time!!

I was thinking about not claiming my contingency $$ from subaru because if I do, its given I autox, bye bye warranty
KC 02-27-2002 08:37 AM
I was thinking about not claiming my contingency $$ from subaru because if I do, its given I autox, bye bye warranty
Do you even know what it is??? They haven't posted them on the web site (SCCA) yet.

I say go for it. Get the $$. I wouldn't worry about getting a warranty voided. You would have to supply them with a vin# to do that.

It would be cool. I've been looking into doing some clothing for NESIC and I'd be happy to see what it would take to get this done.

trhoppe 02-27-2002 09:08 AM

I called subaru marketing and they informed that the $$ info and the contact info would be posted on the SCCA website before the CA Tour event in March. Also the $$ would be payable for the Ft. Myers tour and pro.

I guess if its a small amount like $50 or $75 then I won't worry about it, but if they give $200 or $250 or so then I'll take it. I just KNOW that it will come back to bite me once I blow something up. With 20 autoxes, 3 or 4 track events, OLOA next year....something is going to give!
trhoppe 02-27-2002 09:09 AM
You would have to supply them with a vin# to do that.
They have that, its associated with my SCCA membership and my name at SOA.
