For Immediate Release
SCCA Rally Department Unveils 2006 RallyCross National Challenge
TOPEKA, Kan. (March 27, 2006) On the heels of the highly successful
SCCA RallyCross National Challenge last October at Motorsports Park
Hastings (MPH) in Hastings, Neb., SCCAs Rally Department has
announced an expansion of the National Challenge schedule, with five
summer and fall events planned beginning in June.
Designed to expose the country to high-caliber RallyCross competition
while providing an entertaining experience for all participants, the pilot
series, which features eight classes total within the Rally Stock, Rally
Prepared and Rally Modified categories, will attack a variety of off-road
surfaces in states on both coasts and in between.
The five SCCA RallyCross National Challenge events we have planned in
2006 are the next big step for this program, SCCA Vice President of
Program Development and Operations Howard Duncan said. We began
with a prototype event at Motorsports Park Hastings in 2005, and it was
met very warmly from competitors as well as the city of Hastings and
surrounding communities.
All of the positive feedback we received told us the right decision was to
move the National Challenge forward, and we feel that this schedule has
the potential to open the door for even better things in the future.
SCCA RallyCross National Challenge cars will be adorned with SCCA
RallyCross windshield banners in 2006, thanks to Solo Performance
Specialties, which, as the initial associate sponsor, will also provide
stickers at technical inspections and timing pads for each run.
The 2006 schedule is slated to start June 2-4 at the Fowlerville
Fairgrounds, in Fowlerville, Mich., where competitors will get their first
crack at a clay track and dirt infield.
Taking a giant step left, the National Challenge will make its way west as
Thunderhill Motorsports Park, in Willow, Calif., hosts the second stop
June 24-25.
>From there, competitors will have a couple of weeks to make a cross-
country skip to Orange, Va., where the clay of Oakland Acres will serve as
the home for the third event, scheduled for July 7-9.
After two lengthy hauls across the United States, competitors will get a bit
of a travel reprieve as the next-to-last round is just a stones throw away
in Lebanon, Tenn., at Nashville Superspeedway, Aug. 18-20.
The fifth and final event of 2006 will be in familiar territory as the dark,
rich dirt of Motorsports Park Hastings will cap off the National Challenge
Oct. 27-29.

Is anybody that hard up for a "championship"?
What wankers they'd have to be.

Prediction:
The championship winner will NOT be from the western half of the U.S. ... unless they are trustafarians or retired.

So I wonder if there is a number of events that are required to race in NEB or ????
That would be the only reason to attend one of these events ...

A lot of you guys sure are crying. Some people are doing a lot of work to put on the first national series for rallyx. Maybe you guys should attend and help out, because we know you are scared to come out and play. :D

Thanks, I've driven to Thunderhill before. It's a wonderful venue for rallycross, but even though it's in my home state it's actually a longer drive than CRS and LVRSCCA events held in other states. :(
I've done my time driving 1,200 miles for 10 minutes of racing. :alien:

So what exactly is this? Is this a Championship where you score points at each event to determine a National Champion? Are these qualifying events for the final in Hastings? Are these just stand alone Divisional events? We need more info.

as much as I hate to quote Howard:
The five SCCA RallyCross National Challenge events we have planned in

I'm not sure where the confusion is coming from. These events are just like the one in Hastings last October. The difference is now there are 5 across the country. There is no championship, there are no points, etc.

They should add Blythe or Del Mar as a SoCal event. :D
| Porsche914boxer4 | 03-30-2006 11:31 AM |
Blythe! That's the ticket!!! :)
I don't really see the point of this unless the points won go towards a championship. In other words it's 5 events.
I laud SCCA's efforts for doing *something* but in this case it falls waaay short.
I attended Nebraska last year from San Diego - for 6 minutes of racing.

I think this is almost a step backwards. I don't see anyone traveling far to go to anymore then the closest one. I don't expect to see guys from CA or the East Coast in Nebraska like last year unless there is a reason to go
(ie National Championship) and that would be a shame.

It may surprise some people to know that even in the exalted ranks of ProRally national competition, there were only a few guys in each class who were travelling the country truly running for the national championship. The real national competition always consists not of the best drivers and cars, but of those with the biggest travel budgets.

That's why it would be nice to have a one off National Championship event like Hastings unofficially was last year. You could use a Divisional event as a qualifyer.

Perhaps it would have been better for the SCCA to market the very same events as "We're coming to you" rather than talking about rallycross competitors crossing the country repeatedly:
competitors will have a couple of weeks to make a cross-
country skip to Orange, Va., where the clay of Oakland Acres will serve as
the home for the third event, scheduled for July 7-9.

in Lebanon, Tenn., at Nashville Superspeedway, Aug. 18-20.
The whole point of rallycross is to foster grassroots competition. If you have panel trucks/trailers and financial independence you ought to at least be looking at rallysprints, instead.

Which have both gone NASA dues to issues w/ SCCA that I can't go into - in fact, the last and only two CRS venues to use SCCA will be Jean and THill so we really are not going to have an SCCA "National" in SoCal anytime soon.

" NEWS From the SCCA Rally Department"
Pah! WHAT scca rally department? That PR is a lame joke, except the really lame part is that somebody at scca thinks a cross-country non-championship for bashing cones in dirt parking lots is a Big Deal.
nobody who gives a rat's tail about rally can forget what scca did to the sport, and this so-called "NEWS" item doesn't do much to dispel any of that.
can you understand "dumped the baby out with the bathwater?"

And what exactly did they do to the sport? Set it free? Put it in better hands? I seem to recall plenty of whinning about the way SCCA ran things before they stopped, so why the nostalgia?
Road rally predates stage rally, so why the animosity about the name of the department?

Nationals events = competing against more and possibly better drivers than you would usually do. bigger classes, healthier competition.
MORE fun!!!!
it's ok to vent your baggage if you need to but when your done, put them snow tires on and shut up and drive!!! :disco: :furious: :furious: :disco:

the RCNC events are the RallyX equivilent of a National Tour Solo...except that at this time, there is not 'National Championship' at the end. Hastings will be just like the RCNC events as stand alone, national level events. I don't think RallyX is quite ready for a National Championship just yet, but maybe in a few years.
If you missed Hastings last year, don't miss it this year. If you thought it was a blast last time, you haven't even begun to realize what all is in store for this season's event.
