front end cover?(edit:) LOOK)

Hi
<
I know they don't make one for my year but there is one for the rs.
Just want to use one for the winter months and want to hear from anyone who has one or is currently using one.
Has anyone done this? >03 rs cover on a WRX
do you like it?
would you suggest getting one?
any fittment problems?
thanks

I've been waiting to see others reply's also. There are claims out there that the flector style pushes air up over the hood scoop, but the regular leather(flat) ones are probably okay. I'd buy the leather one, but I'd rather have the flector style so I've been waiting for opinions.
I don't think that the flector one would seriously obstruct the airflow to the hood scoop too much really, anyways. maybe i should just buy the flector style and then get an sti scoop?

regarding the front end cover/bra - subaru has stated:
the front bra / cover is not to be used with the WRX as it can affect air flow/cooling
now, i know of a few wrx's round here which use them.
maybe you will have an ill effect and maybe not...
but if you buy the bra, install it and DO have issues... you're on your own.
The hood deflector, same deal basically....

I contacted renick and they say its both SOA shields (leather, vinyl/plastic) that block the WRX "ram" intake. I say BS. I cut my box out in the fender, so even if I block it wouldn't be affected much. I am going to school for engineering. Not aerodynamics or anything, but as for the TMIC, I think it will have little effect on intercooler. The hard plastic may cause air to go up, but if you think of the air 2 inches above the flector it is going straight. so the upward motion on the flecor is not as bad as it might seem.

I use a leather nose mask on long drives. It has a peice that goes on the hood. It's definatly not keeping air from entering the scoop because I can still see it vibrating from the turbulance.

What I plan on doing is just using the bumper part of the cover and not the hood part. Will this effect the cooling of the TMIC? It doesn't seem so. I also just bought a used silver bumper(for my white car) just so I can get it all crapped up. I don't want to ruin my JDM lip this winter ;)

well my main use is for winter protection
too late anyway because i just ordered one
the way i see it it will be cold as HeLL anyway so the IC will stay cool
as for lack of moving air:
i doubt that that will be a problem
anyone else?

too bad the cost is insane for a clear bra. besides I was looking at a bug shield to add looks to the car, but I'd wish to see pics first to make sure it would look nice! some cars look good with the guard on the front

I hear ya, just a die note. There is a sle for clear bra we are having that ends tonight. You will be really surprised at the cost. What does a Hood deflector anyways?? I will at least PM you with the price.

What do you think??
Just got it on!
Putting it on is not too tricky you just have to stretch it out and wrestle the clips into place.

Don't look too bad. I like the hood cover for sure. I'd prolly keep the hood cover on all year, and keep the full front part on during winter, or any long drives, and heavy duty use. A guy with a blue WRX in my area has the whole front cover setup, but he has things flapping around while he drives. Maybe he didn't put it on real good or it is falling to pieces?
I'd like to see one with the acrylic "bugflector" style. but i guess it blocks air to the ram air intake. but i figure i could use a dremel and fix that. Also the air being deflected is said to go right over the intercooler, but I think that is very minimal. PLus I'd be willin to get an sti replica to compensate.

is it possible you have a different angle, maybe farther away picture of just the hood cover? Not the whole front end cover. I'd like to see the whole car.
If not, don't go thru the hassle of taking the rest off.

I bought a car bra when I first got my '02 wrx. No little plastic things like the Subaru version. I drove with it on from Seattle to Reno, cutting through Mount Shasta during the winter time. No problems with the car running whatsoever. :) I used it that one time, but then I got a front OEM lip and couldn't use it anymore. Doh!
I wish I had known about Rockblocker though, and gotten some Stongard instead. Me = car n00b. lol :p

this is a bad idea. the previous owner of my car left the bra on year round and i ended up with little rust spots from the metal in the bras edges as well as an embossed "IMPREZA" logo on the hood (and it did not look good). bras will do damage to your car, especially when on for extended periods. just giving you a heads up!
after a mild accident i had my hood and front bumper replaced last year, and now no more rust spots or logo!

Like NimrodBoz said, I wouldnt keep in on all year, at least not for winter, I was thinking about doing the same thing but I was told that what happens is that if you live where they salt the roads, salt will get up in behind that thing and cause a lot of problomes, thats why you rarely see them in the winter, I dont know might be BS but it sounds reasonable.

Hmm...
I live in Sweden and bought a front end cover (from US) just to protect my car from rocks in the winter. In summer we don't have much rocks on our roads, so then I don't really need the cover.
But we do have a lot of salt on the roads in the winter... And I understand that it's no good for the car... So I have to choose; rust or no paint on the hood... I hade my car for three weeks and drove about 150km befor I got the cover. In that time I got about 15 marks in the hood caused by rocks... And one in the windshield. I don't want to know how it would have looked like in spring if I didn't put on the cover...
You who have a front end cover, How do you do when you wash your car? Remove the cover or wash the car with it on? If you leave it on, it must be alot of dirt under the cover that could damaged the paint... I rent a garage everytime I wash my car and the timelimit I can rent it is 1h. So that would be a little short of time if I shall remove it, wash it of, let it dry and then mount it again...

I used to work at a body shop. All you gotta do is every time you wash your baby, take the bra off. Wax the car, add a coat or more to the front where the bra sits and voila, no problems with rust.
| down_for_the_scooby | 02-06-2005 05:45 PM |
BTW, subaru is full of **** if they are telling you it will affect air intake>
| Max Umbarger | 02-06-2005 10:25 PM |
I was thinking the same thing...
A dealer told me they block the ram air... BS
Why is there rubber molding right there where the intake is? I know it does get some air from the front grille just before the radiator. I've been thinking of cutting the molding in that area.
What do you think?
