has anyone done this before me?

I am doing a clock pod for my gauges, but being 06+ I need to keep my clock. So I plan to use the ash tray wiring and the plug from the clock to power my clock down here. I will make a plastic section to fit this in to make it clean. Has anyone done this before, and does anyone have pics of this done?

Thats the first I've seeen this. Give it a try and let us all know how it goes. I went with a dual bezel pod because I didn't want to lose my clock. I also want your shift knob!! How much did you pay for that and where?

OR you could buy one of these to retain the clock:

I wish it were that color in real life.

Here's something similar that I did. I bought a clock/outside thermometer that has 12V green backlighting. I made a small aluminum mounting bracking bracket that I tried to show in the pictures. The clock is velcroed (is that a word?) to the bracket and the bracket fits snugly between the ash tray door and the surrounding trim. It works great and doesn't look too bad either.

jac04 where did you get the clock/thermometer?
| natoli4 | 12-31-2006 09:26 PM |
I did it to my 02 with the clock in the ashtray...the great thing about it is it looks very stock and works with the dimmer! oh and you have a secret spot to stash behind the ashtray when you pull it out...can't post pics though.

Single or doubledin radio? You could always mount it in the other slot if it is a single din radio.

It is a RoadPro 1214. The place I bought it from no longer sells it, but it can be found on-line at places like http://www.comfortforless.com/ro12elinthwi.html .

Theres an AirBag light on the clock..you CAN NOT disconnect this light.
Just leave it connected, and Zip Tie the clock in place under the dashw herever you can find room

Or just do what I did and turn it so the light won't shine through the triple gauge pod. I've thought about relocating my clock but the factory wiring is just long enough so that you can't move it anywhere at all.

I beat you to it. I did the clock in the ashtray thing about half a year ago.

I was basically going to cut the harness to the clock so I would have the plug, then take the wires from the cigarette lighter and use them to power the clock. Would that work?
| WRXDriftR | 01-01-2007 09:37 PM |
i cut the harness, extended the wires down along the radio and reconnected them to the clip, then plugged it back into the clock.
the clock sits in the stock ashtray which i dremeled the poop out of to make it hold the clock in place

hey chris, what kind of paint did you use to paint your plastic trim?
| MFR Sweep | 01-02-2007 12:34 PM |
you are better off getting a clock from an earlier model. that way you can have the stock one under your guage pod so you don't get the flashing SRS light. and relocate the second one lower.

hey Brett, sorry I haven't been on surfing much; anyhow, noticed that you are installing your Defi's--I don't know if your super-keen on keeping your clock to actually tell time, but I ended up just wrapping the whole clock display in some foam and burying it in the dash, and putting the triple-pod right over it. Probably not a big deal if your HU has a clock display anyhow, and definitely not worth a: splicing wires and b: losing your ash tray. If you need any more help, let me know; I followed the directions here to the T and came out perfectly:
