Hella Horns Installed without drilling and cutting!

I really do not feel like posting instructions how I did this but I managed to install Hella Supertones without drilling and holes or cutting any wires, I also kept one of the stock horns installed. Below is a pic, if anyone is interested in further instructions, just reply and I'll explain.

Edit: Instructions below about 20 posts down.

are those as loud as airhorns? :D
did you use any relays/fuses for them? can you post pics of how you wired your horns? thanks!

I know it's been done, I read many posts but I did not see a single one made the way I did it. Which is without drilling new holes.

I used a relay, will post more pics tonight, they are 118DB and the Hella Air Horns are rated at the same thing. I was able to scare a decent amount of people. :D
When I come back home later tonight I'll explain it.

i thought about placing them there but i didn't like the way it looked. there are some existing holes in the radiator support that one can use to mount them a little more spaced out. drilling or cutting?...no. but i did have to bend the small lip on the bottom portion of the radiator support. when you remove your grill, you'll see what i'm talking about.
to really get the most out of these horns you MUST use a relay and extra fuse to compensate for the extra juice they need to power them. a buddy of mine wired them for me so they work in conjunction with the stock horns and also can be disconnected and revert back to the stockers quite easily.

i didn't drill

I didn't drill or cut anything. had them on for over a year now. I just mounted them off of what i think it where the catch for the hood is. I unscrewd those bolts and then screwed them back in with the hella's mount. done. so i just ran the screws threw the hood catch-hella mount-into the vertical support and then used then wired.
Sorry for the lack of technical names.

Bump. I have these Hellas at home but have been daunted by the apparent complexity of the install. If you've an easier method I would be eternally grateful. :)

It makes the horns not as loud but you can use the stock horn harness.
I hope this helps. You can just unplug your horns and install these. If you are installing for looks then just do that. If not ask in your local forum for help.

Sorry guys for not posting yesterday as I didn't home until 10pm, I'm at work now and will post all the details when I get home after work. BTW I used a relay and fused the line and it was a very easy install! I also did not have to bend anything!

Your generosity with your time will be greatly appreciated! I'll check back in tomorrow to see what you came up with!

I have had mine in that location for over a year and they work like the day that i got them. I have experience no ill effects from the elements. Yeah thanks for taking the time. I am interested in seeing the wiring too because i really don't think anyone has taken the time to do a real good job in explaining how to set it up that way

This is how I (and some other people I've seen) have mounted it. It looks a little more balanced IMO, and kinda bad ass. They are mounted on holes on the top beam. You will however need to remove a plastic clip that holds the hood release wire, but it stays up just fine w/o it. Just pop in the clip, bolt the horns into place, wire it up, and you are done.

I used to have instructions on my web site for SuperTones installation. I'll put it back up tonight if anyone wants to see. No drilling, although it didn't come out quite as balanced as vadim's.
The relay is not required at all. It's just a switch, not an op-amp. We experimented by connecting the horns directly to the battery, and they subjectively were no louder than with using the stock wire harness.
It's fun to swap just a single stock horn for a single SuperTone. Gives the car a very German sound.

better get new batteries for your BEL-TONE.....the Supertones are significantly louder when employing the relay/"direct" power versus using the stock horn wiring.

That is your imagination. The horns could not be getting any more power than they get when attached directly to the battery. The relay does not provide any additional power. We compared direct-to-battery and using-standard-harness back to back, and there was absolutely no discernable difference in sound or volume.
Oh, the previous assumes a WRX. I have no idea if earlier Imprezas are wired differently. WRX's already have a relay that matches the specs of the one that comes with the Supertones.
And we didn't need the Bel-Tone until after this experiment. :D

Sorry for the delay, but I had almost no time to eat.
Anyways, without further delay,
I cannot explain every signel detail and cannot show every little detail but I will explain everything to the best of my ability and if you have any question feel free to ask.
1. Remove the grille (If you don't know how, see scoobymods)
2. Remove the first stock horn that is held right in the middle where the hood lock is, trust me you won't miss it
Since I did not take any pictures with it removed, I'll be using bslickoh's picture as a "demo", see the note on the below picture, the "KEY" is our new mouting location and the Stock Horn location is where one of the two stock horns is located!

3. Take out the screw that I marked "KEY" as this will be your new mounting location, feel free to try it out as in picture below:

4. If all good, start cracking on the ground. What I did is unscrewed the mounting bracket from the horn (one nut), then I slid a 10 gauge wire in there and tighten it back then the other side of it (about 3 inchs long) I sodered to one of the leads on the horn, I did this for both horns, therefore once I screwed them to the frame they were already grounded.
5. Solder a 12 gauge wire to the other leads on the horn, this is the wire that will connect to your relay, I used the same relay that was included and I had one of those relay plugs so I did not soder anything directly to the relay but instead I crimped it to the wires that were coming out of the plug. You can either soder them directly or buy one of these plugs pretty much anywhere, trash shack or any auto store.
6. The hot wire that is run from the battery to the relay must be fused, buy a nice inline fuse holder with a 20amp fuse. Wire up the relay as per this instruction
7. I then later ziptied the relay right below the horns on that same beam using one of the pre-drilled holes, it looks perfect there as you cannot even see it since it's right in the middle and is covered by everything.
8. Use one of those little blue connectors to crimp pin 86 from the relay to the wire from the stock horn that you removed earlier, DO NOT CUT THE WIRE, go to any autozone and buy one of those little blue things that allow use to crimp two wires together without cutting them. All you need to crimp it is a pair of pliers.
9. Make sure the wires are not long and are tucked away nice, I'll try to take some pics later of how I ran the hot wire but it's very simple just use your imigination and do not block anything. See below two pics for better understanding

I agree with uncle Scotty. I did miner to the far right with no cutting. And there less space. PS - you can take off the red ring and paint them. Go wild!

Hey man. Just wanted to say a quick thank you for your "clicky". I also printed these instructions out prior to the install and they were terrifically helpful. That's one of the more comprehensive sets of instructions I've seen on a Supertone install. Your effort is greatly appreciated! (man, I've had these horns for over 2mos. and have not been able to find good instructions, now on this thread i get TWO sets! Good stuff.)
Stu (who can now deafen people at will) KIDDING!
