hid projector retrofit into bugeye
I am getting ready to do a hid retrofit into my bugeye.I want bi-xenon projectors,my sights are set on the hella e55s............I was just wondering if anyone has used these in their bugeye and how they mounted them, what they used as a shroud to make it look clean, and any other pointers/suggestions on other possible projectors/pics of any retros on bugeyes.thanks.

P.s. I already have done plenty of research on this and other forums for info on this subject so please don't just tell me to do a search,I am just looking for further info/suggestions/PICS so I can make the best decision when I purchase the parts.

deal with lightwerkz and save yourself the time and headache!

or get the JDM Bugeye lights from hopupracing.com. those are sic and give a really clean light
LightWerkz 12-15-2006 06:09 PM

Everyone has their own style of mounting a projector on a reflector. If youve never done one before, you need to do alot of research and measurements on the bugeye before you begin planning.

Why e55? Any reasoning behind this?

Its tough to say what will fit if you dont have it apart to take measurements.

Do you have a spare set of lamps? If not, be prepared not being able to run your car for atleast a few days, even weeks depending how much time you have on your hands.

Kos, sure the JDM bugeye lights look nice, but why buy lights that are for RHD cars? in temrs of an upgrade in lighting performance, thats silly.

Just read you like Acura TL now...nice.. Like I said just make sure it fits before you buy it.

Personally I use OEM shrouds, making one just doesnt come out to a factory look IMHO.

Also think about how you are going to plan on extending the rear of the housing to accomodate the projector.

Lots of factors, its not just a overnight job...

Good Luck!

true point, IMHO they work extremely well. i have driven my friends bugeye with the JDMs and havent had any complaints with it. the only problem ive seen is a lot of cars in the opposite direction flashing their highbeams at me haha

either way i cant wait to see it when its done! good luck:banana:

yea since ive started this thread ive been doing plenty of research and studying......i talked to another guy on here with a bugeye and he fitted in the TL's so i know they'll fit,it just a matter of sealing up the back of the housing and what-not......and yes i just got a spare set of headlights for the project.im just looking for the TL's for a decent price so i can get started......ill take plenty of pics of the process and maybe write up a diy how-to thread since i have not found any specifically on a bugeye yet.

im also looking for some oem shrouds i can mod to fit in there to make it look clean, any projectors/shrouds for sale lightwerkz?i think its the e46 shrouds that say "xenon" on the lip,i think those would look nice.
LightWerkz 12-16-2006 10:28 AM

I have some e55 shrouds that will fit on any 3" projectors, they would look bad ass on your BugEye..

85 shipped, and thats a steal considering the condition.

I'm looking for the ones that have "xenon" kinda etched into the lip........I pretty sure they're off a bmw but not sure which one.do you know which ones I'm talking about?I'm also gonna paint them black with a silver/chrome lip most likely........or paint them all black and just keep the xenon lettering crhome I think that would look clean.

Those are the e46 shrouds. Good luck finding them, plus they run at $125 a pair.

Keeping the words xenon is close to impossible unless you paint them black, then go over it with a silver paint marker of some sort..

I have the RHD JDM headlights and have never had a problem with them the only reason I get flashed by other cars is because my fogs are really really bright yellow  Can't wait to see the finished product though.
