blkwrx02 06-28-2004 08:40 PM

My WRX cost $250.
I can't imagine the sti would be any different. Its the same body. Just make sure to get a lifetime guarantee.
Ulf Wafflestein 06-28-2004 08:49 PM

I got mine done for $150 if I remember correctly.
VSGTS14 06-28-2004 09:49 PM

i paid 206 with tax
MrHorspwer 06-28-2004 09:52 PM

33% Solarguard Titanium on 5 windows cost me $265.

I had it done at AutoSunShade in Warren, MI. Great bunch of guys and damn good installers... my dad's business has been doing business with them for many, many years.
vf39hipsi 06-28-2004 10:06 PM

LLumar 20%, all 5 windows and front strip for 139.
Red04WRX 06-28-2004 11:12 PM

llumar 35%, 20% on back window for $200 plus tax here
SjYankee006 06-28-2004 11:21 PM

As with most other things, you get what you pay for. There's a place around here that will do a whole car for $120, with a lifetime warranty. However, I know people who have gone to them, and had to go back again and again and again because it keeps peeling/bubbling.
turbolover02 06-29-2004 01:39 AM

limoed windows ( 5%) all around with sunstrip for 170. and yes it is very dark:D
kinkinhood 06-29-2004 02:44 AM

How many times have you been pulled over for you tint?
mindchatter 06-29-2004 08:19 AM

There are a couple of variables on this. Where you're located, the type of tint installed, and the shop you choose. I live in CT ($$$) and had Llumar ($$$) installed. It's one of the highest quality films you can opt for, and I got a lifetime guarantee with it. I spent $280, but also had Llumar's UV Sunscreen installed (black car) - it's a clear, thin film that blocks 99.5% of all UV transmission.....and keeps my car MUCH cooler on a hot, summer day. HTH, and good luck. IMHO and experience you're better off paying a few dollars more and getting a quality product and a skilled install......nothing looks worse than a bubbling, purple film on a car.

My price for a WRX or STi is $175. That's with Madico's Onyx line of film. It includes a Madico backed lifetime warranty on the film and installation.

Avoid going to custom shops, stereo places, etc. They subcontract out their tint work and you ultimately end up paying more. Go directly to the tinter and be sure to look at some of their work first.

Only films I'd call high quality are:
Madico
Llumar
3M
Johnson
Sun Guard / Solar Guard
Huyper Optic
REXADDICT 06-29-2004 10:23 AM

WoW.. I got a quote yesterday for $299

They do a great job though..lol
Yom 06-29-2004 02:01 PM

$210 for 5 windows
SolarGuard medium around
ShoalinStyle7 06-29-2004 02:27 PM

180 20% solarguard all around. Hell of a job no bubbles or anything

also the fading or purple color may also be caused by using windex on your windows
turbolover02 06-29-2004 03:11 PM

havent gotten pulled on the tint (knocking on wood) yet.
SupaSizeFries 06-29-2004 03:45 PM

I paid about $175 for 35% lumar on 5 windows.
Alizarin 06-29-2004 04:41 PM

$150 for mine, all windows + strip on the windshield. Solarguard (I think that was it) 20%. Lifetime guarentee.

He's done alot of cars for my family and never any problem. My sister's window levers broke and scratched the hell out of the tint, was replaced for free.
WanganRunner 06-29-2004 06:56 PM

Don't they have to leave the little strip at the top of the rear window untinted because of that stuff that's on there?

Id like to disagree with that. Some stereo/custom shops have in house tinters that are there all the time. I know.. cause I am one. Just make sure you find a shop that is like that.

anything over 200 and your getting ripped off. Unless it blocks 100% of heat

I should have said "most" shops...when the price is unusually higher than most competitors you can bet it's because they're sub-sub-contracting the work out.
SpongeBrain 06-30-2004 11:45 AM

Madico (sp.) 20%, all 5 windows and front strip for $200.

Lifetime manufacturer/installer warranty, blocks 99 percent of the UV...seems to work with my radar (V1), although I still keep it mounted below the front strip.

I agree with the others...over 200 and you should get something in return, like a date with the installer's sister or something comparable :D

Huyper Optic [/B][/QUOTE] ....curious....any reason FormulaOne is not on your list (perhaps it's not that popular)? Personally, I've had great success with their product. It's made by the same company that produces Llumar (CPFilms).

A local installer that I've gone to for the last 10+ yrs charged me ~$120 for the 3 back windows and a sun strip. Unfortuantely, the guy I usually worked with wasn't there and I think they charged me the normal rate.
Rebellion 06-30-2004 05:57 PM

$100 here... 35% all around.

The films I listed are the most popular among all of the other tinters I've met/worked with over the last 13 years. I haven't met many folks that use it and I don't know much about it so I can't really say anything about FormulaOne. If it's a metalized film then it will last. If it's a dyed film...it will fade after a few years.

No window tint out there will last a lifetime. It all begins to fade eventually. Even the best films will fade after 10 years or so. But who keeps a car that long anymore anyway?

Bottom line is, if you have a tinter who does great work at a great price...stick with him. There are too many hacks out there and people overcharging.

I hear that. Alot of people go around trying to get the lowest price possible. But alot of the times, you get what you pay for with tint.
DGmachinist 07-01-2004 11:30 PM

Ummmm...

Do it yourself. It really isn't all that hard, if you take your time.
The back window is a different story though. That should be done by a "professional"

I've heard that before...most people that do it themselves end up in my shop getting it done the right way.

If you've never tinted before and can do a great job your first time...call me...I have work for you.
