I pulled a Martha Stewart

Just got this black "I" emblem off ebay for $10.00, which I thought was a steal. As I had my old emblem in my hand something popped in my mind and I said to myself..."I could make a key chain out of this" So I did! Check it out, pretty crafty if you ask me.

is it just me or that i-emblem look like a fake?

Hmm, I sure hope not. Your starting to make me scared. I didn't know there where fake ones out there. What do the reall ones look like? This has the sparkly metallic black and silver colors in it. Maybe its the picture. It was kinda dark out.

well now that you got me worried. I did some research and I found 2 different types of "I" emblems. I found these 2.

Don't forget the Blue I's that are out there too. Which come on the non-STi WRXs pre-2002. They don't use the I emblems on any 2001+ in Japan. They are just like the USA's emblems, but in pink.

What are those rabbit emblems??

i have the blue i-emblem so the design might be different, but the chrome trim around the i (border) is different. its not just a flat circle, but has a little dip in the middle of the line and goes all the way around (not sure if you can picture my poor explanation). take a look at that pink i-emblem above. the chrome trim looks like that. yours is just a flat circle...
well, as long as you 're happy with it, who cares, i guess. hehehe.

That's what you get trying to buy quality parts from ebay  In either case, from a distance it looks real, but I would be kind of embarrassed if I took it to a WRX ralley and people pointed it out ;)

You see, Subaru actually made an Impreza before the WRX came out...
j/k man
It's not fake; that's just how the old gc8 emblems look.

...speaking of Blue "i" emblems
Does anyone here know how well the blue "i" emblems color match the WR Blue Pearl on the MY02 WRX's?
I thought about getting a blue emblem to place on the tail of my sedan near the trunk keyhole, and de-badge the "Subaru". ...but if the color will clash, I'm not going to (obviously!).
Thanks in advance,
Eric "GuitarEC"

Well all I have to say about my so called "fake" emblem is, I am happy with it. I ran out to my car and compared it to that green emblem I posted and it looks excactly the same. Maybe its the fact that I took the picture on a slant that made some of you guys think that. Anyways I don't care. bottom line I'm happy with it, and if people wanna be so silly and point out something that minor on such a nice looking car...well than I just feel sorry for them.
| rally_wannabe | 07-15-2002 05:58 PM |
dude they're just jealous cause they all have the run of the mill "same ole same ole" and you've got something a little more unique.
heh heh heh.
heh heh heh.
| kenchan | 07-15-2002 06:23 PM |
hey, its possible that MINE is fake and your's is real...hahaha. so yah, you're happy with it, that's all that matters. at the end, its only an emblem... :p
| Rojorex | 07-15-2002 06:31 PM |
Are there actually fakes out there? Could someone really profit that much by creating a fake "i" emblem?
I think that the newer one has just been updated a little, that's all... a little more character in the way the "i" is drawn. The older emblems are smaller as well, aren't they?

the newer ones are much longer horizontally and have that cooler kitana look to the "i". the gc8 are smaller and have that more stubby text. 'sours emblem looks just like mine, whoever pointed out that it looks fake was probably thinking about the new "i" emblem.
&...these cost like wat..10 cents to replicate in taiwan so of course people can make money off them...if you've ever held one it feels pretty damn cheap

This is exactly what I was trying to point out when I put the 2 pics of of the different "I" emblems. This "I" emblem that I just got feels and looks excactly like the stock star emblem that was on it. It has the sparkles in it and the ring around it isn't flat, it does have a slight dip. not as big as the newer wrx ones though.

I can attest to that. I totally de-badged my02 wagon (WRX and all) and put an older "i" emblem in black in the bottom left corner, opposite the trunk keyhole. Looks good IMO. I also painted the keyhole black... it was competing too much with the "i" emblem because it was all shiny silver. :D
