ICY/Phoenix racing finish 1-2
ICY/Phoenix racing wins the first SCCA National race of the season @ Sebring, FL. Lap times were about 2 seconds a lap faster than last year. from what i understand, they have set the lap record in class once again, defeating the previous lap record that they set last year. Congratulations to the team with their first outing in the 2006 STI chassis.

Woah, that's pretty cool. I only hope that this doesn't draw an even more critical eye from the SCCA in the form of competition adjustments...

The thing that might draw some criticism is the sandbagging during qualifying and then the race wins at both the runoffs as well as this event. Hopefully not, but we'll see.

who still feels the Pro ICY/Phoenix team should leave SCCA AMATEUR Club Racing alone and go to PRO World Challenge.

sandbagging.. that's a pretty good accusation... have any proof of that? or are you upset that they are fast?
Corey 01-09-2006 08:50 AM

Tom, why weren't you there? Car done yet? What is your schedule this year?

 I'm not upset by them being fast. In fact I love it as it improves competition.

SCCA sucks ;) They make you run 6 regionals before you can run get you national comp license. Even if you are setting track records  :furious:

I'm stuck in the minor leagues until probably May.

What are you talking about sandbagging! If you were there you would know that all of the T-2 cars qualified within a second, if not less of each other, except for the CTS-V. That by itself doesn't disprove sandbagging but the fact that the SRT-4 (which was also fully sponsored) was right behind the STi's and in the mix with them the whole race disproves your accusations. As well as the fact the towards the end of the race the Evo started to close the huge gap between the lead pack and itself. While speaking with the team they stated that they were there for practice, its not like they come there to pick on the weekend racers.

Tom,

Check with your divisional licensing administrator to see if you can get an exemption. Make sure you have a solid arguement including drivers school, track days and autox experience before you call. Telling them you haven't had any on-track incidents helps too.

I was able to get an exemption for this season. We need you to run against the ICY/Phoenix guys to see how the privateers fare!

Good Luck,

Derek

I talked to them today for an extended amount of time and it looks like I'll be able to do at worst case 4 regionals and at best case 2. 2 would rock as I can do a double weekend and be ready to go.

I don't think competing with the ICY/Phoenix guys with equal equipment will be the issue. The issue will be getting the equipment equal to those guys. JRZ shocks ain't cheap, and its not cheap to have a fresh set of tires for every session on track :)

Either way, as long as Subarus are on top, I'm happy.

Last but not least, back on topic. Good job at Sebring. Are they sticking around down south for next weekend at Homestead? Also, any in-car videos?

Tom, I managed to get my National License with 4 regional races (and one was a double event, so 3 weekends). As far as tires go. ICY/Phoenix ran the whole weekend on take offs from the Run Offs.. Not a single sticker tire was seen and Scott and I followed them pretty close. They were running 2'29"s consistantly, which is a pretty quick lap for T2, but not unbeatable.

Ok, here's more pics...

Really? I guess they were serious about this being "practice" ;)

We all know its nothing till the runoffs get here anyways. This was an out of region race for them and they were getting seat time in the 06. Expect the cars to get a few seconds a lap faster before the end of the year.
Flat front left?
They run those goodyears fairly low on pressure.

One interesting thing to me is that they aren't on wheels that are as offset as they were last year. At least it doesn't seem that way to me. Maybe they learned something ;) I was planning on running 5mm less offset then they did last year.
