interior rattling..
having a 05 STi and the interior rattle/noise is driving me crazy...

wonder how bad are you guy's interior rattle?
specialev 04-23-2006 03:10 PM

I've learned to ignore it.
WrexT 04-23-2006 04:13 PM

I had a rattle in MY04 WRX that I couldn't get rid of for a year. I finally tore off the rear deck cover and found a ceramic knitting needle lodged between the glass and the metal rear deck! A little present from the previous owner!

I have read in the faq's that the rear deck is a big problem in our cars, it does seem to be kinda flimsy.

'05 STi herte and chalk full o friggin' rattles. The fingernail tapping on the rear window noise is by far the worst. I've tried everything!

Those stinking clips are where my rattles are coming from. I'll give that a try.

I just turn the radio up
skinart76 04-24-2006 01:04 AM

I can't hear crap but my exhaust.
shortys64 04-24-2006 01:08 AM

I have noticed two pretty annoying rattles. One is coming somewhere from the dash, I have no idea exactly where, sounds near the radio. But I guess all I can do is just turn up the damn radio. :(
BluePearl04 04-24-2006 09:09 AM

My mirror in the STi rattles, when it starts I just adjust it a bit and it goes away.
Hank3 04-24-2006 09:18 AM

I think all of you know by this time that rattling is common with the WRXs & STIs. May want to check out the following thread if you haven't done so already:

i have the notorious rear deck rattle, which i can live with, but i am going crazy with the rattle coming from somewhere near the sunroof controls/map lights on my 04 wrx. i took the unit out of the headliner and drove around but the rattle was still there. shoved a (clean!) wool sock in the back of the hole, but that didn't help. i've noticed that light finger pressure on either the plastic light surround or on the front-center trim around the sunroof silence the rattle. any ideas on a fix?

My solution as well is to turn up the radio. My rattle comes from the driver side air vent next to the window. Soon after the rattle started a screw dropped down from under the sterring column onto my feet when i was driving and i havent found out where it has come from.

I have this problem also, but if you took it off and then reapplied it otherwise, wouldn't that be tampering with the VIN plate???

If you have rattles, my solution is turn the radio up to drown them out:lol:!

I had a little rattle here and there, but then I installed stiffer struts and an ALK. Rattles are popping up all over the place now.
blazin sti 04-25-2006 05:10 PM

You dont take off the vin #? You take off the whole plastic piece that its attached to.

I've got a noise under the dash as well. I originally thought it was the infamous VIN plate rattle but after I secured the clips that I "thought" were the culprit, the noise is still there. I checked the air cents on both the drivers and passengers side but they weren't the source of the problem either. Any body have any ideas?

argh, i've got this one right now, and it's annoying the crap out of me. at least it goes away when the weather is warm...

my center console rattles too, just looks like its kind of loose no biggy
bmoney13 02-12-2007 05:40 PM

I wrote a how-to on the rear deck rattle like 6 months ago. Search. Just use carpet underlayment and stuff it from the trunk under the rear deck. Most of the noise comes from the rear deck hitting part of the metal of the trunk.
DubyaSTi 02-12-2007 05:54 PM

I also have the notorious rear deck rattle...haven't looked into fixing it just yet. Besides that I have a rattle coming from the drivers side door, if I push on the middle of the door it goes away. Finally, I had a rattle coming from the plastic cover that covers the wires coming from the autodimming rear view mirror. I took the cover off but it's still there, when I hold the wire in place the rattling stops.
Eventually I'll get around to fixing these things.
