Solberg ready to fight back
Petter Solberg intends to win his first rally since Mexico when the World Rally Championship crews visit Turkey next weekend. The 2003 World Champion is currently equal second in the points with Peugeot's Markko Martin, 11 behind Citroen team leader Sebastien Loeb.
Subaru star Solberg led the points chase after winning in Mexico, but was overhauled by Loeb when the Frenchman won in Italy. Solberg failed to score on the last round in Cyprus - on which Loeb took his third win in a row - after running into a series of technical problems, and is looking to return to the form that brought him back-to-back wins in Sweden and Mexico.
"We need some luck now and for things to work out well for us," said Solberg. "We didn't have such a good event in Cyprus, but Turkey is a rally that I like a lot. We had some problems there last year and were unlucky with the watersplash, but now I'm ready to fight back. It will be a tough event, but the team has been working really hard with the car since Cyprus. Now I'm ready to get back behind the wheel and start the event."
The Norwegian's boss reckons a win is a realistic target. "This is definitely an event that Petter can win," said Subaru World Rally Team principal David Lapworth. "The terrain suits his style of driving, it's traditionally been good for Pirelli and we've got a good record on rough events."

Doesn't Solberg say that every rally?
Well anyways, Solberg really needs to do good in order to keep his championship hopes alive. Even if he would get first and Loeb second, it would not be good for his championship. Loeb really needs to DNF.
Lets go Solberg! (fingers crossed)

It looks like the championship is only between Loeb and Petter. Now if only Loeb woould get a DNF every once in a while.

Are they reusing that POS engine from Cyprus for this event? If they are, we can probably expect another mechanical failure from Subaru.

This thread has derailed so, bad it isn't funny. Well, actually it is but, you know what I mean.
Anyway, why was SS1 cancelled ? The official rally turkey site has it cancelled.
Gronholm was fastest on shakedown . I would really like to see him win at least one rally this year. Shakedown means jack unfortunatlly.

Why they changed it; I can't say. Some people just liked it better that way!
Bring on the water splashes! Subaru: now with anti-dive technology.

Solberg wins stage 10, up to 3rd. Galli in trouble
Arai lost 5 min on the stages with broken PS yesterday. Higgins lost time as well. Marcus Ligato in a SpecC is only 10sec ahead of Pons in the Mitsubishi.
PCWRC will be a good fight.

Solberg is 1:20 behind Loeb in 2nd place, fighing close with Gronholm. Only 4 stages left, 2 on Sunday. Looks like 2nd is all we get. Atkinson is matching Solbergs stage times on a few.
in PCWRC... The top 4 places belong to Subaru (Spec C)
1. Marcus Ligato
2. Nasser Al-attiyah
3. Mark Higgins
4. Toshi Arai

Gotta hand it to Loeb. He is a legend. I think after he stops rallying, we will be talking about him like Didier Auriol, Walter Roehl, etc...
The Spec-C's tough it out again. Wow. Subaru is doing some exciting things with the GroupN program. Congrats to Donaldson & crew...

Not to sound like a broken record here, but tire choice really was key in this rally. Petter didn't have any tires that were suitable for mud so he got totally screwed when it rained. If the weather had been hot and dry like it was supposed to I think Petter would have won.
The new rule about having to choose your tires 10 days before an event is totally asinine.
But still, Loeb is incredible, he may be the best Rally Driver of all time.
Oh, and congrats to El Matador! for doing what Duval couldn't. I hope he drives more rallies this year :)

We really can't fault Petter for anything this season. He's driving great, the cars great, its just Loeb is a machine. He drives like the course is implanted in his brain and he knows every corner by heart. Amazing really.

Seb won the rally, skipped the final press conference, jumped on a helicopter, flew to Le Mans, and helped his Le Mans team come in second in testing. Man's racing maniac.
Much to nobody's total surprise Sainz agreed to race Greece too. He swears that's it for reall this time.

Thats awesome. I wish more people would do different types of racing a la Mario and Surtees (?). He is amazing.
He and Petter are in a league of their own and it looks like Seb is about to create is own league and kick Petter to the kerb. I hope he does well in Le Mans.

I remember hearing Petter say at one point that he got an offer to race F1 but he turned it down because he thought it was too boring compared to rallying.

Got an offer to test for F1 and that was before the rally career as I remember. Of course, I've only heard him say that so, who knows. Could mean anything. Not taking away from him as a driver but, I don't plan on seeing a rally car driver in a F1 car anytime soon. I don't think any WRC driver would say no to F1 seat. Of course, they would either get beat bad or crash and burn. F1 is a different world all together.

It was on at 6 on the West Coast, but I think they're moving Greece back to 8 Pacific/11 Eastern
