Rocky WRX posted a pic of the projector lights. The JDM ones are (obviously) biased to RHD while the ones in Germany are biased to LHD so as not to blind oncoming drivers.
How much are they shipped from Germany? I work at a dealer so I want to see if its cheaper to get overseas or if my warehouse will be able to get them.

Mechanical installation is simple. You just pop out the grill and old headlamps, and pop in the new ones. Electrically, they use different connectors, so you will either need to do your own wiring, or buy a pigtail adapter. Check WRX Angell's LHD STi GB thread for info on those. I think someone was selling adapters for $50.
AKAIK, only JDMs have an OEM HID option, and they are very expensive. You can install a HID kit in a standard STi headlamp, but you will need to do some additional wiring so the lowbeams stay powered when you switch on the high beams.
The LHD STi headlamps are expensive and hard to get. Again, check WRX Angell's GB thread. It's long, but has a lot of good info.

lhd vs rhd
ok, what are the big differences between rhd and lhd??
will it greatly affect my field of vision to have rhd??
will it affect oncoming drivers??
any info about the differences between rhd and lhd is appreciated.
thanks

Here's a pic of the LHD beam pattern. Sorry, my street is on a slight hill, which is why the beam is tilted overall lower to the left against the garage.
You can see the how each headlight produces its own angled pattern in the middle, with both sides horizontal, but at different heights, the left being lower than the right. The two separate headlight patterns are obvious close up, but blend together at a distance. The distance to the garage here was 25-30 ft.

so then a RHD setup would just have the right be lower than the left?
is this also the case in the high beams?

I haven't seen the RHD pattern myself, but I'd expect the pattern to be similar but lower to the right instead of left. The high beams are not projectors like the low beams, and they don't have any particular right/left pattern that I can see. They aren't designed to prevent blinding oncoming traffic, as low beams are designed to do.
| MBPEJ20 | 09-25-2002 02:30 PM |
They are only different to prevent blinding other ppl, since they drive on different sides of the road and car.
so there is no difference in performance between RHD and LHD correct???

I believe that's a true statement, but then, as I said, I haven't seen a RHD STi headlamp 1sthand. I think the only mechanical difference is the piece that partially obstructs the beam, to produce the LHD/RHD pattern.

Are those HIDs in the picture?

They are non-HID. I paid $900 for them, including shipping.

here is my pattern, yes there is a difference between RHD and LHD. With my LHD, I can see road signs and people on sidewalks as well as not blinding people. I have since gotten HIDs and they look awesome. And yes $900 shipped is a good price for them. I paid less but I had a freind in Germany send them to me.

Heres a pic with the HID's installed. PM me if you need help or need tips on getting these things. HID lights or LHD STI housings. The HID's were only $400 and they are so nice. -Brian

thanks Brian.
i believe there are 2 levels of hid
4100k and 5300k
i believe the 4100k is better for visibility, and the 5300k is just more blue but less usable light.
which ones do you have?

They are actually claimed to be 7000K.
They look very beamerish and my vision is 100% improved. I wired the ground of the ballast to the chassis and the low stays on with the high beam. Put me next to a stock WRX with its high beams on and you will crap your pants at the difference.

whoa, 7000k is a lot, never heard of them being that high before.
are those just the stock bulbs in your highbeams and foglights?

They say that they are 7000K. They look so sweet so whatever they are, I love em. The fogs and High beams are stock. My high beams arent on in that pic, I will try to get a high beam pic somtime soon.
Thanks for the compliments, If you have any other questions on how to get em, shoot me a PM and I will try to help ya out. Shipping from Germany is kinda expensive but I will try to help.

LHD Lights
Finally, I will have the light in a couple of weeks (source if from Germany--non HID). I might be selling a pair if anyone is interested--still checking for overseas availability. Price will of course depend on shipping. If everything goes well, I will have one or 2 headlight per month...I'll let you guys know.
