Looking for racing tires and rims taken from my garage in LA

I know this is way off topic, but since this thread is getting a bit of traffic and is very current I figured I would post here.
Last night after 12:30 am and before 8:00am, all three sets of my rims and tires were stollen from my garage.
1 set of rota torques (Hyper black), with a brand new set of shaved 235/40/17 Falken 615's.
1 set of rota boosts (grey) with a brand new set of Yok Neova's 235/40/17 shaved
and
1 set of black rota boosts with a brand new set of shaved 235/40/17 Falken 615's.
All the wheels are in 48 offset and the tires are freshly shaved.
I am posting, since I feel they will show up somewhere, hopefully in a classified ad or something. Please let me know if you see any of these up for sale. This happened in North Hollywood Ca and is now the second time I have been ripped off out of my garrage. I do believe it is an inside job, since one would have to come prepared to leave with three sets of mounted wheels and tires and since it is impossible to know the items even exist unless you were to walk into the garrage.
I can be reached at two one three-215-seven 2 88
Sorry for the off topic post.... but these boards are the best way to get info out for a subaru specific item.

5x114.3 or 5x100?
if 5x100 then it pretty much limitss resale to only Subaru's and will be easier to catch the thieves...

A friend of mine, Curtis Eames, had a set of wheels stolen off his tire trailer when he was running his Boxster at a Porsche Club autocross in Portland Oregon a couple years ago. He kept a lookout on ebay, craigslist etc. He finalyl came across a set of 18" Boxster wheels with Continental tires, sure enough, seller located in Portland area. Long story short, he met the seller with money, as a prospective buyer, with police in tow. It ended up being some 17yo kid.
Curtis even made the local newspaper and TV News.
So just keep a lookout for them.

Chris, thanks for making me feel a bit better.
As much as I would like to get the wheels and tires back, I would much rather have the opportunity to meet these people face to face.
Between my work and family schedule, autocross time has been close to nil. The idea that all of my prep for nationals was almost done, has set a bit of ease back into my life. Then this happens. The amount of anger and disgust that I feel right now can only be quickly diffused by giving me the opportunity to expell all of my rage towards the ones that truely deserve it.
I would gladly give away those rims and tires for the opportunity to meet those who stole from me.
I will be looking and hoping I find those dirtbags. Hopefully when I do, I don't feel as angry.

Not really. My '93 Volkswagen used 5x100. I'm not sure what size they use now.

The same.
I'll tell you what.
Go to tirerack.com and look at the list of 17" wheels that are available as aftermarket replacements for a 2004 WRX. Then see which wheels are available for a 1993 VW Passat GLX.
You'll find that they are exactly the same. Same wheels, same sizes, same offsets. I have no idea what other VWs use those sizes, but any of the mid-90s V6s are certainly on the list.
And I'd be SHOCKED if there aren't many other makes/models that use the same.

Well...be SHOCKED...
You are 100% wrong...
Our offsets are very rare...initially, there were hardly any wheels made that fit our cars...

And I think you need to do some HW....
Search 1993 Passat wheel offset....35mm....
Show me where a 1993 Passat runs 48+...???? OR any other V6 VW for that matter...

I'd try to get a per. thread started (not this one after I wrecked it...sorry) to keep everyone on the lookout...

Okay, fine. My point was in reaction to the statement that nothing else used 5x100. I didn't realize how large an offset these particular wheels have.
I apologize, as far as this thread is concerned, it seems unlikely that someone would sell these wheels for a VW unless they also included a spacer.
But my point is still valid outside the context of this thread -- lots of wheels that fit VWs will also fit WRXs, and vice versa. Maybe just not these.
BTW, on the subject of knowing the offset of my own car, give me a break. I sold that car in 1996.
Back to your regularly-scheduled programming. To the original poster, I sure hope you get your stuff back!

Can we assume they broke into your garage and you didn't have your door wide open unattended for several hours?
Sucks man. Sorry to hear about it. Will definitely keep an eye out. Its a surprisingly small community. Well, tight, I mean.
A bit OT, but I've got a couple sets of Rotas with really worn down tires for sale. I mean, they look worn down but they look pretty much brand new. Real cheap. ;)
In all seriousness, this is so uncool. Any identifying marks or scratches or anything on the wheels?

I believe Jeff's garage is a subterranean type located under his apartment building with access (gated? but this doesn't deter thieves) from the street. I'd have to agree that it was likely an inside job or done by someone with knowledge of the items and the apartment building.

Chalk one more pair of eyes looking around. Hope you catch them.

good luck on getting them back.
| makofoto | 09-04-2006 01:45 AM |
You couldn't see the wheels/tires looking through the gate ... well maybe with a mirror. PERHAPS you could see them if you went to the other side of the building/garage. Jeff ... any sign of forced entry at the far end pedestrian gate?
When we had stuff stolen out of our underground garage ... the police say that thieves slip in before the gate closes when a car drives into the garage? Scary ...
btw. on our local board, Jeff reported that two other garages in the area were hit that night ... making it seem less likely that he was specifically marked?

Wow, they hit other garages too? Sounds like they must have had a large trailer or Uhaul or something to cart away that much stuff. 3 sets of wheels/tires are not simple to just toss in the back of a standard pickup with ease.
