Montreal Grand Prix question

Hey guys, those who have been to Montreal. I had a question, I am thinking about visiting it this month, maybe just to see quali.
I've only been to USGP Indianapolis and I enjoyed General Admission ticket the most, where I could walk around sit wherever I want on the chicane I want, etc. I was wondering is it the same in Canada? I can walk around the track and choose to watch race from the place I like? Of course I am not talking about grand stands, but only sitting on the grass etc.
On their website it does mention about General Admissions, but not what kind of package it is. With my experience at Indianapolis, I purchased grand stand ticket only once. Then three other years that I went, I would go to General adminssion only since I love to choose where to watch race, practice, or qualifying.
Thanks,
Vlad

Hi Vlad. I wish I knew about general admission - but the one time I went to Montreal, we sat in the cheaper grandstands. (IMO, it was worth it). There was one major difference between Indy and Montreal if you sat in the stands. At Indy, for practice and quali, you can sit wherever you like. At Montreal, you sit in your assigned grandstand spot for the whole weekend.
A note - the best way to get to the track is via the subway, but the amount of people taking it is unbelievable. I have some pretty crazy shots of the crowd waiting to get on and off the subway. So make sure you leave WAY ahead of the time you actually get there so you don't miss anything!
Hope you enjoy Montreal!!

Last time I was there as a partof the show, Thursday was the day pitlane was open to the public. I've never been as a spectator, so from that perspective, I couldn't say, Vlad.

Montreal Grand Prix is one of my most favorite weekends of the year. The entire city transforms into one, huge automotive enthusiast outlet with outstanding nightlife, a beautiful track with a goddarn Casino in the middle of it with a park-like setting surrounding it.
General admission is good enough for me, I can't sit in one place for the entire race/support races anyway, although it is nice to have a grandstand seat to resort to if you want to get some worthwhile views and photos.
Early, subway travel is imperative. Crescent St. and the adjacent area is where it's at during the night also.
Have fun!!!!

Wow you're lucky! I am surprised, I thought USGP was the only one on calendar who carried out Pit Lane Walkabout. I have attanted it ones and really enjoyed it.

I saw some lodging for about $80/night on Hotels.com. The place I was looking at said ti was 25 kilometers from the track.
I can't afford Canadian tickets, though. :(

Hey guys, thanks for info, i am not going to Montreal this year :( my immigration lawyer said that I might get stuck in Canada on the way back so... maybe next year.
Good news is that I am going to USGP 100%.

Bumping this one up...
I'll be in grandstand 33 during qualifying and the race, and likely wandering the general admission areas during practice.
Where's everyone else planning on being?

Nashua,NH? wow I used to live there:) wish I could come. You should go to Indy man, me and bunch of friends going.

I've got tickets for Grand Stand 12. Probably sitting for most of the race (at least the start and finish) and qualifying too. During the practice sessions, I might check out the seats, but like you said probably milling around.
EDIT: Also, I'll be in Montreal for about a week. What else is there to do? Where is the good night life? I'll be staying near St. Louis Square off of Rue St. Denis and a few blocks from Parc Mont-Royal.

Indy's too much of a hike and the track is unimpressive (to me). Montreal is a much better bet for those of us in the northeast. :)

I'll be in grandstand 11. I'm looking into stuff to do in town and at the track. I'll post my findings back here.

I have to disagree, I love everything about Indy, never been to Montreal and my friends say I'll never go to Indy after Montreal. Maybe true, maybe not, I'll have to see when I can. I wanted to go this month but :( I am still a god damn foreigner in US, if I leave I'll have hard time coming back... so have to stick around here longer :( have fun!

I'm in Grand stand 15 for the weekend. I can't wait, first time in Montreal. I can't wait to see the race, the night life and the city. I'm praying for no rain!

since ive been to the GP for the last 12-13 years or so, i can definitly say that general admin is not bad montreal. there are some REALLY choice spots but you will have to snag it early in the day. there is a nice grass hill right on the casino hair pin. i know that near the grandstands i usually sit on there is always black material ziptied to the fences to stop people from standing and watching.
i think it's definitly worth the trip.

I'll pass on a tip that I took from some locals with much success. Check out the Ferry that leaves down by the docks to island. It's faster, and has less of a wait than the Subway - especially on return. Plus, you get an awesome view of the City from the river. It's a bit more expensive than the subway however - I can't remember how much but it wasn't bad.
