MotoGP @ Assen part 1

pio!pio! 06-25-2006 10:01 PM

MotoGP @ Assen
Did anyone watch that last sequence of events between Hayden and Edwards? Awesome stuff!!
artkevin 06-25-2006 10:10 PM

Just watched it. 1st time I have screamed during a race in years.
Bonzo 06-25-2006 11:20 PM

another great motorcycle race!!!

For most of the race Americans occupied 3 of the top 6 spots.

Little Nicky is now getting scary clsoe to taking the WC. Staying on the bike is not always the easiest thing to do. He is and it's shows. Way to 69.

Rossi gritted out one heckova race.

Same here.

The last time I jumped infront of the tube was when Edwards & Bayliss duked it out at Imola for the WSB championship in '02.
Rapid_Roo 06-26-2006 02:11 AM

just saw the highlights, looked like a great race :D

hope they replay it.
skuttledude 06-26-2006 09:27 AM

Well done Nicky. Awesome battle at the end.
US is back.
artkevin 06-26-2006 09:35 AM

Colin almost made me cry to see him lose it at the last corner last lap. It was great to see him get back on the bike and finish 13th. Good on 'im. I wish they would have interviewed him afterwars. He would have at least had something interesting.
BriDrive 06-26-2006 09:53 AM

Awesome..
Frankly, its too bad F1 wasn't this unpredictable....the MotoGP final laps have always had some outrageous battling...
I felt very badly for C Edwards...especially after the repass...just an unbelievable final lap....

As bad as I felt for Colin, I felt worse for Hopkins. So many strong starts just to see it fall apart about mid-way. Kudos to Hayden - he keeps finishing in the top 3 and it's his.

Can't fall off a F1 car.
BriDrive 06-26-2006 10:13 AM

True Kevin....

The commentary rocks also....

Its interesting to see in the interview room, the riders were still visibly amped from getting off the bikes...almost shaking still....
mykrrrr 06-26-2006 11:23 AM

I knew that Edwards crashed out on the last lap but I was still gutted to see it happen because he rode a fantastic race from start to finish. It's definitely hard to be the rabbit all race.

He's shown that he's got the pace to go the entire race so I think his 1st podium will be soon. Perhaps @ Laguna???

Nicky ran a smart race once he and Colin left Nakano was broken and the rest of the pack was safely behind them. IMO he didn't run a risky race since maximum points is what he needs right now.

Think the Jibernau curse is now on Vale??? He's had a few miserable races lately.

Hopper's sorta in the position Hayden was in his first two seasons. He's got the speed but his endurance is not there. He did show the speed of that Suzuki though. :D

Very cool to see the new gen of American riders up there.

ditto! That was very dramatic. I was very bummed when he was first passed 2 laps from the end after leading the whole race. Then he got the pass for the lead! Awesome. i was totally screaming! Then he dumped it! Argh!

Between that and the BMW flipping, there was lots of screaming goin' on at my house!
pio!pio! 06-26-2006 01:59 PM

This weekend was just awesome for racing in general...so we have this MotoGP thriller..
that crazy last lap shunt in the Grand Am race..and another last lap shunt in the Champ Car race....

I was stoked this whole weekend..not to mention F1 being on at a reasonable hour!
artkevin 06-26-2006 02:37 PM

You forgot to mention that Bourdais was almost in deep do do. I was pretty scared when I saw Tracy's tire run right over his head.
pio!pio! 06-26-2006 02:40 PM

yeah that was lame!

Tracy drives off the racing surface on the start (he drove where the brake marker cones were and got a cone stuck under him..that area is not the racetrack)..
then he forces/pushes a car off the track after turn 1...then gets pinched in turn 2!!

not a graet day
jamesohoh7 06-26-2006 08:06 PM

I finally got to sit down and watch the Assen race!... wow!... outstanding stuff! I was immediately reminded of Imola in WSB & the classic Bayliss-Edwards battles (which is still protected on my DVR even though I've dubbed it twice to tape).

I felt horrible for Colin, but happy too for Nicky... wow, gutting stuff. It's probably better for 'American MotoGP' that Nicky go on to win this title (and so the 5 extra points here are huge), but nothing would've made me happier than to see Edwards get the top spot. He's stuck around and gritted out some lean years in the GP ranks to get where he's at finally. I can't really root against one for the other, I like them both. I guess I'm wishy-washy.

In no way do I think the Giber-curse is on Rossi. Rossi is still a machine...he's just dinged up currently. The guy's been incredibly resilient and posessed of very good fortune these last several years. "Into every life, a little rain must fall"... Rossi's getting a bit of a drenching right now is all.

If anything, I'd look for him to get his anger on when he's back to full strength b/c at least he has a new challenge in front of him now.
artkevin 06-26-2006 09:33 PM

Gotta feel for the guy.

Anybody else think the "A" from Assen looks like 2 people doin' it doggie?

Funny James! :)
That story has now made it all the way around Nasioc offically.

This is a blast of a year in Moto GP! Two awesome races back to back-still two races to go to the Red Bull USGP. Nickey is good in Germany, Colin is good in GB-we'll see what happens-and yes the US is back ('bout time  )!
WShade 06-27-2006 08:49 PM

Nicky makes me feel proud to ride a 1000RR
