Okay, I SO want an STi hood scoop. Is it an easy install?

Note, that there is NO performance increase from the thing, but it looks really nifty. MPJ Performance was selling pre-painted ones for $180, which I like. They're out of stock right now, but I am on the waiting list for the next batch.

The scoop is easy to install I think there are a total of 10 or 12 screws. You will have to remove the remove the stock air splitter to get to the stock scoop. It takes about 15 minutes max.
You can get the STI scoop from gruppe-s. They have it for $135

I'm waiting till I can get the STi intercooler and STi Type RA splitter(or a reasonable facsimile there of) before I get the STi scoop. I agree it looks nice though.

i lost one bolt down in the engine. i could see it, but i couldn't get at it.

Also beware of replicas without the center support things (how's that for a tech term!). The scoop is really flexible without them. I looked at one at Irvine/SPI a few weeks ago and was shocked at how flexible the top part of the scoop was. I would be a bit worried about it being ripped off by the wind at speed.
As an aside, I think its really cute that kevin, the man who installs his own suspension numerous times, even has to ask!:p

"MPJ Performance was selling pre-painted ones for $180"
"You can get the STI scoop from gruppe-s. They have it for $135"
but its not painted, the painted ones are $185 with free shipping.

Kevin - Are you slowing amassing STi parts so you can put that STi badge back on your grille and not feel like a rycer???
Give in to your inner ryceboy Kevin...come over to the ryce. :p
-mykr.
PS - Now that I have a true STi GC grille on my car does that mean I can get the following things for my car???
1) BIG STi logo in pink diagonally down the sides of my car.
2) "rare" STi badge frequently seen on eBay.
3) "Powered by STi" windshield banner.
4) STi Calvin pissing on a mugen logo decal in my rear window.
5) Custom IL plate reading "STIBOI" or "STIBXR"
 :p :D  :monkey:

In previous posts I thought I read the sti hood scoop has a wider opening, resulting in more air into the intercooler which would be a small performance upgrade. Is this not true?
| BIGSKYWRX | 11-08-2002 11:51 PM |
The Sti scoop will flow more air (larger), but the impact on the oe ic will be minimal, but still a small (real small) performance gain nonetheless.
I (as is Zahnster) will be upgrading the intercooler, piping, splitter/gasket as well and I do expect some performance gains (along w/ a empty wallet;) ).

I just ordered an STI scoop from Gruppe S Engineering. Does their scoop come with the slats (center support things) in the scoop? Also, can you use the rubber seal that goes around the intercooler attached to the stock air scoop with an STI scoop?

I don't think it's ricey to put STi on a Subaru. If you really think about it, it's like an SAT question.
Mugen is to Honda as STi is to Subaru.
It's not like he's putting a WRX badge on a Baja, that'd be like VTEC on a Civic.

first and far most you are way off on both accounts u just posted!
VTEC comes on CIVIC EX (SOHC VTEC) and SI (DOHC VTEC) so ur statement is very stupid so if you dont know what u are talking about dont post it
Second Mugen is a Japanese Parts manufactor. who develops preformance parts for a number of car manufactors even though hondas get more focus... now STI to my knowledge isnt a parts manufactor like mugen or even TRD besides the sup'd up imperezzas i havent seen any parts available to purchase or swap. it just looks like a higher version of another imprezza

Actually, STi is a parts manufacturer and they also do some R&D, but they are officially affiliated with Subaru (hence, their name). No need to be calling people stupid because they posted one little thing. His analogy was a pretty good one.
Back to the original post: Installing/uninstalling a hood scoop is possibly the easiest "mod" you could do to the car. You may have to sacrifice two of those little circle things that holds the matting to the hood, but it's just the way it goes.

Yes, STi is NOT a "trim model" for the Impreza/WRX.

How about "...NOT JUST a 'trim model'..."? That's how that statement should read.
