Paint it black??? '04 blue wagon headlight mod

OK.... I'm colorblind, so I thought I'd post a poll and see what you folks think. I also prefer classy to ricey, if that influences your choice.
I'm doing the headlight mod soon on my '04 wagon (removing the orange turn signal slice, and the side marker reflector, but keeping the parking light cover), and I'm undecided about painting the chrome housing black. Help me decide!
Here's my ride:

Keep the chrome like this...

Or paint it black like this...

why not get the best of both worlds and get black chrome.
| OCD | 10-02-2003 02:48 PM |
i personally like the all chrome on blue cars, cause i have it done to mine and i love it, plus u can do it all chrome and if u get bored of it u can always do the black instead of chrome,

I dunno... the clear headlights are pretty common these days. I kinda like the black headlights. I have a White WRX and Im thinking that the black housing headlights would look better. The Black housing gives it contrast.
Really up to you.
Really up to you.

I like the way your headlights look so I might follow your advice. How do you like those Eurolite bulbs? Where did you get them and for how much?
| OCD | 10-02-2003 04:54 PM |
the eurolite bulbs are ok, not like amazingly bright, its a little brighter its just that my friend works at circuit city and it was like 33 bucks for the high beams, the low beams and fogs at his discount, i have heard the sylvania silverstars are the best, haven't tried them though, and don't even bother changin the bulb in the fog because of hte projector lens you can barely tell the difference
| Wagon Joe | 10-02-2003 05:16 PM |
and my fogs are covered up, anyway. :D
C'mon guys.... I need some more votes!

I'm partial to the black housing.
Silvania Silverstars have much suK IMO. :(
I'm planning on doing the black headlight mod if/when I get either a WRX wagon or an STi.
Black chrome paint would be the best of both worlds though. :D

I also like them both , but am partial to the black . You gotta ask youself which way you wanna go with your car ?huh: I like the gunmetal wheel look on the 04 bodystyle myself, I also have an 04 wrb wrx, with 19" Falken Torque5 gunmetal wheels , and everyone that see`s it say`s the car looks "badass" . I wanna do the headlight clearing/ black mod to my car , but I have a question . I might just be dumb , but the threads with all the information about doing the headlights , none of them say if once you put the headlight in the oven after you preheat it to 200 degrees . if you leave the heat on 200 or turn it down or off ?? I`m just really nervous about melting or screwing up my headlights . Buy the way, the car looks great and the headlight mod will just make it look better, no matter which way you choose to go !!

BLACK !
I have a 02 wagon and did mine the first week I had it. Looks MUCH better than having all that chrome.

i left the oven at 200 degrees the whole time, once i got the amber out i put it all back together and threw it in the oven again at 200 degrees for like 8 mins and then took it out tightened all the screws and put it back on hte car, it it really easy to do, just take ur time and it will come out great, the first one took a little more to do than the second one cuase i was more cautious, if u have any other questions just let me know

my vote: do what i did; paint it black but leave all the orange in. also i havent seen black chrome in spray cans, so i got gloss black. when on the car, its a world of a difference between flat and gloss black.

I know i'm probably in the minority, but I think leaving the orange in looks better than not. nicely reduces how much "orange" is in the light, but not removing it completely...

I would like to do this mod also, but not sure on how to do it. Can someone send me some info on how to do this mod. Like what is needed to take out the orange. Thanks that would be really helpful.

Minh - could you please post a pic of the entire front view of your Rex. I also have an '04 Aspen white, and I would like to see what the entire front looks like with the lights like that.
Thanks

Why not paint the inside blue to match the car? I want to do this mod to my 04 and was wondering what the inside would look like blue. I think it would look good. Just my .02 cents worth.

since yur car is black (i love black by the way, nice car) i think that u could use some chrome on the front to kinda accent it. leave them chrome in my opinion. black is cool tho, wutever choose man nice car. goodluck!

OK, I went with the black but took the orange out.

I'll be the odd man out here and say I like the stock orange/chrome reflectors.
On a dark car like the blue, I feel like the black housing makes you lose some of the body to light contrast that you need to make the design of the light really pop. The all chrome just looks really "APC circa 1999" to me.
I think the stock lights look pretty kickass personally.

If you like classy, go chrome. Doing black separates all of the shapes of the individual lights and loses the overall shape. I wonder what a gray color would look like similar to Murcielago lights. That would tone down the chrome and not be too distracting from the shape of the lights. Doing the black reminds me of the following covers, and while people dig the body, nobody has liked the lights (me neither).
