people with painted skirts

How long have any of you had your stock skirts painted, and has their been any problems with them flaking or cracking? Thanks...GQ
SCRAPPYDO 05-31-2001 07:24 AM

I had mine painted for about 10 months, only one rock chip in that time inside the fender well. But I got mine already painted!

I am very very curious about that too~
I plan to get my side skirts painted but worries if it comes off the plastic...
Need the 411 on it~

I did a search and came up with the same results, SKYLAB. I am just checking to see if any problems have came up since the last post. I have a few options for having my skirts painted, and all of the paint shops that I have spoken to aren't confident in painting them. I am thinking about having a friend do them. I just want to go with the best option, without having to have the skirts painted every year or so.

I've had mine for about 7 months and theyve only just begun to crack!

just got mine done a week ago

they look great! [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]

when I spoke with the body shop, they were pretty confident in doing it, they just said they needed a special primer for the material...
MattJP 05-31-2001 11:17 AM

I've had mine done for about 7 months on my BRP sedan and they do show some scuffs from shoes, etc. So far the paint is sticking.
But they make the car look so much better that I'll gladly have it redone every year or so if need be.

just had mine done not long ago. The shop used a flex agent in the paint and said they aren't worried about the paint. i also had a Greddy lip done with the same flex agent and stoneguard. I do recomend the stoneguard although up close you will see bubbles.

Had mine painted for 36 months. No chip no crack whatsoever. Just make sure the bodyshop uses the paint intends for plastic[img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif[/img]

Had them painted for 21 monthes....2 REALLY small chips..but not noticable...but I KNOW they are there....otherwise good to go

Mine have been painted for about 9 months, and no sign of cracking...

And that includes a Canadian winter!
zzyzx 06-01-2001 12:12 AM

If a shop doesn't know how to paint the sideskirts, then they're not that experienced. The rear/front bumper covers are essentially the same black plastic material, so I find it hard to believe that any good body shop can't deal with painting that type of material. I'm sure many other cars use the same stuff for bumper covers.

I had mine painted a while back, and no issues yet. The shop gives a lifetime finish guarantee, so if something does go wrong, I know I can go back to them and get it fixed.

EXACTLY what zzyzx said. I'd avoid any body shop that wouldn't paint side skirts.

FWIW, I have had my skirts painted, and over a year later they look like they did the first day back, 'cept the car needs a wash today... No worries.

chuckles,
If the Stongard is applied properly you should not have any bubbles.
25psi 06-01-2001 07:07 AM

I had my skirts painted and then wraped them with 3M film i bought from X-pel.com.

Thise should keep them looking good for a while.
Or so I hope.

the stone guard i have is the spray on. it's not noticeable unless you're really looking for it. you can see my car in the member pics of NH.
JGard 06-01-2001 10:53 AM

the body shop I went to put stone guard on the rear spats, but not on the sides [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/confused.gif[/img]
NeoGeo 06-01-2001 11:29 AM

Chuckles where do you get "spray on" stongard?
RS_NW 06-01-2001 01:13 PM

I really like my skirts painted. The only complaint that I had was that the shop that painted the skirts also painted the rubber portion on the top part of the skirt. Well the paint doesn't like rubber too much and its starting to crack and flake is some places. So don't get that part of the skirt painted.
NateDogg 06-01-2001 02:46 PM

25psi,
can you tell theres somehting covering your skirts with that film over them? im intrested in doing this
chuckles 06-01-2001 03:33 PM

Neo,
I dunno the body shop said they had the spray on stuff.
25psi 06-01-2001 05:14 PM

It is a film, dude.

With adhesive backing. Take off the skirt and stick it on. Now your skirts are covered with a protective layer [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

Eugene
NateDogg 06-01-2001 09:35 PM

i understand that, but can you tell its there?
