You could get the black Kartboy knuckleball and put an 8 sticker on it.

oh, cry me a river. not every post is going to be helpful. yours certainly wasn't
BACK ON TOPIC:
they make universal 8-ball shifters. check your local autozone or advance auto.
the DIY will be more hassle than it's worth, just drive to an autozone or hop online, i think pilot autoparts makes one.
to answer your question though, the ARC Ti and cusco and trust delrin knobs are pretty round. also, DSG. however, i'm not sure delrin is paintable and if you paint an ARC Ti knob i will personally come to your house and drown you in my emo tears.
so yeah. just don't do it. i think the kartboy solution is the best aside from buying a premade 8ball. i have a knuckleball and at first i hated the look too, before i saw it in person... but once you get it on the car, you'd swear it was a sphere. it also feels WAY better than any perfect sphere i've ever tried(trust delrin knob, namely.)

Only thing keeping me from gettin the knuckleball is the heat and cold factor. I hate waking up in the morning in the winter and even touching my steering wheel makes me want to cry, i couldnt imagine a metal knob:(

There are a couple of Momo models that are spherical. Like the Momo Aluminum Sport. Razo also makes some sphere ones, like this Heavy Ball model and this white resin model. The latter is maybe best suited for what you're looking to do.

the reverse lockout ring makes that a VERY difficult proposition. i have not seen one, but STI does make a 5MT spherical titanium knob that is the same design as the 6MTspherical knob...

There's a "tuner" shop near me that has a number of different knobs, including 8-ball knobs. I'm sure you could find one if you search around.
I've used an actual 8-ball in my Mustang for years. Drilled and tapped it, works fine, last long time. :) It is pretty fat, though. I'd prefer if it were slightly smaller - I think it's 2-1/4", it would be nicer if it was 2-1/8".

Hot rodders have been putting 8-ball shift knobs in their cars since looooong before the word "rice" even had any automotive relevance.

Did this make anyone else think of Arsenio's leather 8-ball jacket from the 90s?
How that became a fad I'll never know.

This piqued my curiosity, so I did some searching. Check out these guys - http://www.epcomfg.com/shiftknobs.html - all sorts of cool options. I think I might have to get an eyeball shift knob, just for fun. :D
I'm not a big fan of "universal" knobs at all, I'll only use screw-on knobs, so I was glad to see they offer inserts to make the knobs screw-on. Unfortunately they don't list our thread size, but if you scroll down a bit you can see they'll do "any size threads other than 16mm" for $10. Not too bad.
My personal annoyance is that my Mustang and Subaru aren't the same - they're both 12mm, but different thread pitch. Dammit! But with the little universal thread adapters, I just spend $20 and I have a knob I can trade from car to car. :)
