Photos: Killarney Historic Rally
It poured rain for 5 days straight, plus 100+kph winds and severe flooding resulted in the cancellation of a few stages and made for a mostly miserable trip.
Was able to take some photos in those brief moments when the rain stopped.

Not quite as good a variety of cars this year

That's because there is not many straight roads in Ireland. I did the recce, the roads are insane! Those guys are nuts

if not for the exchange rate, it probably wouldn't cost you much more to do a rally there than here

Not much of a beer drinker anymore, but the lads kept handing me Millers

There was 158 entries and this was just classic cars, the only new rally cars were the course cars. The cars run at 30 second intervals so there is tons of passing and action. There was times when 2-3 cars were coming into a corner at the same time, it was like a combination of rally and road racing

The yellow Cortina MkI is nice, but the modern stuff (Escort MkII) I can do without, if you please!

Nice pics, as always!

That's what the Irish guys who were at Team O'Neil were saying, and that included hiring a well-prepped car. My man Mr McKelvie is on the program, seeking details and connections to suss out a good gravel rally over there for us to rent a modest spec GpN car and go kick up some mud.

I'm torn, I like the classic stuff, but those MKII's are bitchn'!

There was three rallies in one, I don't recall the year breakdown but there was Historics, Post Historics, and the modified class. The modified class was wild as they were historic cars with liberal rules. Some of them were MkII's with 300+hp Cosworth motors, sequential boxes, full independent coil over suspension. They are incredibly fast and 10,000rpm blasting through a sequential box sounds amazing

The Historic Minis are pretty awesome too. Some are pushing 100hp at the wheels through a 4-speed dog box and weigh 1300lbs

whenever I see a post by you that includes photos, its always a must see.

Beautiful pics as usual

Do a Tarmac rally, you can do gravel here. You can rent a pretty fast Civic or the like for tarmac pretty cheap. The tarmac stages there will knock your socks off

I know you're right, but we were thinking we'd have a better chance of not making fools of ourselves if we stick to what we know--a Subaru on greasy gravel.

Great pictures! When I was in Killarney this past May there was a rally going on the first day we were in town. And that road from Killarney to Kenmare is awesome. I was glad I picked the Peugeot 206 for the trip...

We ate in Kenmare...got back to Killarney and my wife was like "I left my purse at the restaurant." I was out the door like a shot...driving that stretch at night is a hoot (acutally easier than day since you can see people coming). If I ever needed a little hatch the 206 won me over.

Oh yea...and the speed limit on that road is hilarious...most people would ball it up trying to hit 100kph. I love Ireland.

Wish I could've gone.

Great pics. That must have been a fun trip.

The roads in Ireland are awsome. I'm always wishing that I could bring one of my cars with me every time I go.

Beautiful.

Great shots.

I'd really like to see the Irish Rally.

Boy, it looks like you sure don't want to get off line in a lot of those corners, especially in the wet!

Great shots as usual.

The tarmac stages are nice till you come 'round a corner and have to squeeze by a tractor trailer coming the other way.

I've got a picture of a rented Corolla at one of those turnouts from few years ago. I'm planning to attend the WRC round in Ireland next November. Crummy weather, but at least it's not tourist season...

Rallies in Ireland are really well organized, it is pretty rare that there is civilian traffic on the stage.

If you are talking about driving there in general, I agree, it is perhaps the scariest place I've ever driven.

And the traffic will be FAR worse than tourist season
