^^^ Looks good, but IMO black lugnuts would look better. Did you paint them yourself?
| solarin006 | 10-08-2006 09:06 PM |
yes I did paint myself. I'll most likely get some black anodized lugs/wheel locks when I get some nicer wheels.

f1vlad how much did you pay for those wheels? Like a grand? I'd be too nervous to paint STi wheels black. lol But props to you for having the nuts to do it.
| f1vlad | 11-22-2006 10:53 AM |
I actually had silver bbs sti and traded them for these. I didn't pay to have it powdercoated, but I know it's expensive.
I did some reading and I don't believe powdercoating compromises these wheels structure.

Green scuff pad to take off the factory wheel clear coat, then washed them really well. Acetone to pull all the grease etc off. Tack cloth to pull of dust.
Sprayed ~4 coats of Duplicolor Wheel Paint (Flat Black) and sanded with 400gr sandpaper between coats to get rid of orange peel and smooth the paint down.
2 coats of Duplicolor Wheel clear coat.

Nope. Still as bright as they were from the factory.

whats the point in the flat black paint when the clear coat made it shiny again? i mean, ur set up looks real clean, but id just much prefer a flat black wheel as opposed to a shiny black.

Duplicolor doesn't make wheel paint in gloss or semi gloss black.
I didn't want flat black.
It's not super shiny, just a little.

did you unmount the tires or just tape them off, I don't wanna spend money on the unmounting and remounting,

Walmart near me does mounting for 3 dollars per rim. Not going to break the bank. Also, you can put the car on stnads take the wheels off and deflate the tires to flat to get some masking in them then paint.

Here are some of mine. If you want my opinion, it would be best to powder coat them. Its hard to paint them and make it look perfect. Ive got a set of 04 Silver STI BBS wheels on the way and Im going to rock those and get these powder coated and use them as my winter set, bbs as summer set. And yea I'm going to put diff lugs on with the winters, the chromes look dumb.
Easy way to mask the tires is to use a set of playing cards.
The drop is Prodrives. And that shocker sticker is gone:rolleyes: .

Chris, member info ^^, took the photos, not sure what cam he used.
Yes the headlights are painted as well. I've traded them out with a STI set painted by Lightwerkz (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/member.php?u=125432), they look much better, those pictured had some flaws.
