you can use "search" function. more specifically, search for "shawrf1" (i'm pretty sure that's his screen name)'s car. he has a c/f hood.

Hay Chris-

I was just wondering why you kept the stock hood scoop?

Chris I was just wondering what type of hood that is, How much it weighs and the cost. Thanx

I'm curious what the motivation is for purchasing a carbon fiber hood. I've heard the stock WRX hood is aluminum, so is there really a significant weight savings? If not, then is the motivation more aesthetic? If aesthetics are in fact the primary motivation, it appears to me that it's only possible to see the carbon fiber weave pattern when you're very close to the car. Couldn't one achieve nearly the same effect by having their stock hood painted graphite/black? I ask all these questions because I'm trying to understand the trend. I just don't get it. I guess I'm more of a "function over form" type. Having just turned 35 may also have something to do with it...

Personally Scott I think it is aesthetics and that's it. Unless you are just a total weight freak and want the feeling in your head that your car is actually a few pounds lighter...but then again I guess every little bit may help in racing or other venues.

I like the look but just was wondering about it on a black ride.

i don't know who makes the hood. i am in the process of a dispute with the local store who sold it to me. that is a whole other story. the hood did not come with a hood scoop. i do have a c/f one but i will not be using it. want to buy it?

i don't think the hood is any lighter then stock. might be heavier. all i know is that is a lot stronger then the weak piece of crap that comes with the car. i had gone through 2 stock hood from road debri denting it. i went with c/f cause it is stronger, and i personally like the way it looks. you can see the c/f weave from a distance. my driveway doesn't have the best lighting, so it didn't really show up in the pics.

Anyone else have a cf hood on black???
bump!
Eric SS 01-28-2003 05:19 PM

It's not my thing. The color offset is just enough to notice but not enough to KNOW that it is CF (like on a White car) But that is just my oppinion

And there in lies the debate in "Show or Go". If it's just for looks then yeah...get it for a white or silver car. I personally don't like it on the blue...but that is just me.

If you want people to know you have a CF hood then putting it on a black car may not be as flashy but if you really don't care what people think from a far and "you" like the look then get it! I do think it is for show. One guy did say it dosen't get as damaged by flying debris.

damn looks great

personally i find CF hoods on a black car ugly. It just give it this unbalanced look. Stick to white and yellow cars. $$

bottom picture shows the cf hood on my black car, defnitly not the best picture but it was pitch black , will take better ones once i get the body kit and morettes on :D
Lowball 02-02-2003 01:56 AM

Very nice!
shawrf1-

Very nice Mang, very nice!

Guess since you have the FMIC you don't need the normal style hood scoop. The scoop you have is a reverse right?

Lowball

Bes-

Thanks for posting you photos as well. Looks like some nice interior work there $$$.

Like I said earlier, I don;t like black with CF but that hood rules!

Eric
AustinSTi 02-02-2003 09:12 PM

i second that notion
PPower 02-02-2003 11:02 PM

I want a FMIC just to get a hood with a reverse scoop now. It amazes me how expensive the stock hoods are to the point that replacement is the same cost as a CF hood or more. I think it would be nice to not worry about the chipping paint so much.
