Prodrive WRC wing installed

Installation was a royal pain in the rear. Had to re-drill all new holes. But, once installed, well worth the trouble.

The rear overhang of the wing seems huge! Is it supposed to hang past the rear decklid like that? Seems weird.

Oh it does. But, as the post says, WRC wing.

Yep, its supposed to hang over like that. I like it, it makes the short back half of the car not look so retarded.
Will you fear and mounting problems with the new mounts?? I would think if it creates too much DF it would loosen.
Your thoughts on the 22b Adjustible??
p.p. nice rims.

I was under the impression that one of the reasons the impreza had bad aerodynamis was from the short trunk and its inability to reattatch airflow over the rear deck. I wonder if that wing makes for better airflow.
| ForceFed4 | 12-14-2002 01:12 AM |
Is that the genuine Prodrive part that's insanely expensive, or is there a source for replica WRC wings now?
Also, it doesn't look like it has the space for a brakelight in the spoiler, is that so or am I just missing it?

There is no space for a 3rd brakelight. Jusst using the one inside the car. All the way from England, the wing came.

I was ready to buy one of these (from Prodrive) about six months ago but I just didn't like the way it hung off the back so much. So I got the Kaminari wing instead which has a box shape but only hangs off a little bit. There is just something about the way it hangs off the back that bothers me but I can't put a finger on it.

Yes and I would imagine it does.

The Prodrive wing for the Prodrive Edition STi (V7) is essentially the same shape as the WRC wing, but hangs off less. That's the wing I want, but they're like $1500 for the fiberglass version, and more for CF, that's a LOT for a wing, and noone seems to be making any replicas at all, let alone a good quality replica of it. Everyone has the "Old Style" wings retrofitted for the GD, but I think they look entirely out of place. I've seen the Kaminari wing, and I would almost buy it, but I don't like that it doesn't have a full lower rear deck, the supports seem to just sit on two platorms on top of the trunk, I like the connected look of the Prodrive designs better. It is adjustable though, which is cool.

It'll be cheaper now since it's used on all STis and will be used on the STi on the US. I'd still expect it to be around $700-800 but it comes pre-painted... I may get one when they start selling the STi in the US with it. Yeah I wish the Kaminari had a thing across the bottom but hey it looks good from almost any other angle.

Yeah, if it comes down to that price it won't be too crazy, I'll consider getting one then too. Until then I guess I'll just keep my stock wing.

Still, $700-800 for a wing is extortion... I mean, it looks great and all, and I'd still want one, but that's just way too expensive.

Not if it's already painted it isn't.
Even the replica wings are like $500; add $200 for prep + paint, and you're already at $700.
I'll gladly pay a little more to have the genuine Prodrive designed unit on my car.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that the wing looks OK, but IMHO it really should't be on a road car. It hangs A LOT.
But, when your car is all done maybe I'll be singing a different tune :-)

Beautiful car. That's exactly what I want mine to look like. Shoulda approached Prodrive on a new tarmac spec car after all your work.

This is should be good. Why should a properly designed functional wing not be on a road car?

Very nice.
The price is what has kept me from getting one of those. I'll get one later, but a Kaminari does the trick for now. It'll go well with my other Prodrive products :)

Those mirrors aren't cheap. :D I don't think the wing looks bad I'm just not a big fan of how far it sits back. I like the prodrive-style wing a little better.

Looks excellent! I'm pondering which wing to get, bought my WRX in March w/o wing because I disliked the stock version.
Can I ask why you replaced the Kaminari w/ the Prodrive wing? Any Kaminari issues you can share? I'm leaning to the Kimianri myself due to price.
Thanks!

The ONLY reason that I took the kaminari wing off & replaced it with the Prodrive is because I am going for the WRC look. i still have my Kaminari wing if anybody is interested.
