ProRally Results for Pikes Peak
HEy all!!
Looks like Lovell took first and beat Rhys' time from last year!! Ramana Lagemann took fourth, not a bad result considering what he'd been through during practice on Friday morning.
I saw the unofficial results and the story and pic of Ramana's car on www.subaru.net
Congrats Subaru Rally Team USA and also Doug Havir who placed a remarkable 6th and first in Open Class for the independants!!

That's not too hard considering that there were only 3 marques of cars invited, and the two lonely Hyundais were stuck in open.

the rally guys that showed up did fantastic!
not only did the winners create new Pikes Peak records for their classes, but they made it to the top in fine form!
the Pikes regulars were thrilled to have the pro rally involved...
and i am so happy that i was there and able to witness
the maiden voyage of the Pro Rally competitors at Pikes Peak!
the Gp N cars were fantastic as well!
Wolfgang and Julie in their Evo did wonderfully after a
not so wonderful testing session on Friday...
i'm very proud of them, especially Julie who is afraid of heights!
it was great... and just to make sure everyone knows...
it's not the "manufacturers" cars who were "invited..."
you had to be a seed driver 3,2,1 - or FIA to qualify....
that's all.. that's why there were a limited number of cars...
so in a way it was invitation only, but....
next year Pikes may be considered part of the SCCA Pro Rally
championship... :D cool stuff huh?
congrats to my rally pals! ya all did well!
they put on a great show.... ;)

Looks like some dial-up woes ^^^ :D
Sounds very cool. I wish I could watch some of that.
Does anyone know if it will be on Speed TV soon?

I wasnt that hard for them to set class records considering this is the first year for Pro Rally classes. :)

Some of the guys who were running in the Rally class this year have been there before, though (ie. Rhys and Choinere). This is the first year they were allowed co-drivers and recce, though.

No Speed TV
The television rights to Pikes Peak belong to ESPN. So we won't even get a hint on Speed Channel.
Doe's anyone know when it will be on. If they're like speed with this stuff, we won't see it for a few weeks.
But there should be some exciting in-car stuff when they do.

Brockway
Actually, Lovell's car had a tarmac setup for the Brockway stage at Lake Superior last year.

is it me or is Lovell running on subzeros?

Looking at all the auto results from Pikes Peak, nobody even came close to Rod Millen's record:10:04. He is closest to breaking the 10 minute mark yet. Too bad Toyota pulled the plug on him.

Speedlines
Rebellion...
Those are Speedline Corse wheels with Pirelli XR70 tires... sweet setup.
The good thing is, that Subzeros look almost as good at probably 1/4th the cost:D

ahh... I was about to say. It didn't make much sense for a full blown rally team to cut costs like that one wheels... but hey if they know something... :)

Yeah, and he still lost time to Richard who was on a mostly gravel spec setup.
Too bad there's no more Brockway for the spectators!

Spectators were almost out of control last year.
Compare and contrast:
1999:

One wrong landing and you lose a dozen spectators. Add in the fact that people were actively blocking the speedvision cameras, ignoring the marshall (and the sheriff), and walking out (in the road) during the stage and you have a recipe for disaster.

Just wait 'till they pave more of the course. That's how Millen got his. Not to put him down or anything - you run on what's there. Just that Vatanen's time was all dirt!

I was under the impression that the current course with ~1 mile of tarmac at the beginning was the most tarmac ever. So you're saying that additional parts of the road were paved in the past? It kind of had that look in places, but I just figured that was the under surface of the road showing through the dirt.
Also, IMO no one was running vehicles anywhere near the power and $$$ that Millen was running.

Don't neglect to mention the fact that people up the road from the launching pad (in the "danger zone" if you will) were sitting in lawn chairs on a 7 foot patch of grass between the road and about 200 feet of exposure.
I can't say I disagree with the organizers decision... it's just a shame it had to happen.

Nothing was paved in 1994. It was all dirt.
Everything was perfect that year and the road was really fast. Even the overall motorcycle record was set in 1994 and hasn't been touched. When they paved it the road actually got slower and more unpredicatable. I remember seeing David Donner run on it for the first time. Ripped his tires right off and he did a full airborne roll before landing on what was left of his wheels. Worst "paved" road on earth.
