Widebody WRX Wagon part 1

T33 04-04-2003 11:23 PM

Widebody WRX Wagon
Has anyone tried to put the front fenders of a sedan on a wagon?
I know there'a ll this talk about the body being totally wider (20mm, ie. 3/4", )...and if so, how is the rear widened.
I'm just curious...it's only a matter of time before we see someone trying it.

for the front you need the sedan fenders and then any of the sedan bumpers (stock or kit). The rear may not fit at all due to the shape of the tailgate but i really don't know

I've seen one wgn with sedan fender way back before nasioc and the "other" club was just one. the owner of the wgn claims he's gotten into an accident and asked the body shop to order the sedan fenders. the only thing that I can think of that can make the wagon wider on the rear, is by installing a fender flare.
A fender flare like this isnt bad at all

ok did some work on this and . . . it won'nt work as just a simple bolt on. I looked at the rearend of both and the most noticable problem is that on the wagononce the rear bumper wraps around the tailights it stays horizontal. where as on the sedan it turns upwards. so basically you could totally do this but it'll be custom work of some sort and custom =expensive

ok first of all I can't believe anyone is even thinking twice about a rear end swap I mean come on your talking about a wagon and a Sedan here doesn't anyone else see the problem with this? Hello it's called a trunk and a hatch back here people. The only way it would work is if you cut the fender flairs off of a sedan and molded them onto the wagon. NO way in hell would it be any kind of bolt on replacement. Now the front yeah that should work because at a glance they look as though they should be the exact same. I would love to see a pic of a wagon with the sedan front end on it, but that said I think it would look kind of odd with the "straight" rear half. So I think you would have to do something to the back for it to look good.

I KNOW I have seen a pic of a silver wagon with sedan front fenders. And I KNOW it was on this board. I guess do a search for a long time ago, because I KNOW its there.

Found a thread: Sedan Fenders on a Wagon

you all are aware that that pic of the wagon isn't a wrx right? im just making sure cus it look exactly like that mazda MP3 wagon or whatver its called.

You all probably knew that anyway.
T33 04-05-2003 09:03 PM

ranicd, good job on finding that thread ;)
The Mazda looks good with the flares.
The flares on the WRX sedan, I think, are one of the coolest aesthetic things about the car. Remeniscent of the original M3 and the Lancia Delta Integrale, the flares rock.
Wish there was a way of pulling off the rear somehow - that'd be an expensive custom job though.
But like I said - it's only a matter of time before we see one.

I think that silver wagon looks great. Does anyone know what sedan front fenders and bumper cost?
Impulsivegoat23 04-06-2003 12:06 PM

Not sure about the bumper......but I checked a while back on a new fender for my RS Sedan and the price I was quoted was $165 shipped COD to my front door. Of course then you would have to have them painted. So a set of 2 $325 plus paint and front bumper.
Rancid 04-06-2003 12:34 PM

I bet the RS sedan front fenders are cheaper than WRX ones too. Haha...
wrx320 04-06-2003 01:53 PM

I think I remember Subie Gal saying that sedan fr fenders are $135 ea...........? unpainted
pittkid333 04-06-2003 02:08 PM

Does anyone know whose silver WRX that is? I'd like to p.m. him and ask him some questions.

yeah, I was just trying to point out the fender flare like the Mazda Protege5 and why didnt SOA gave our wgn a flare like that one.

BTW, the silver wgn with front sedan fender swap looks totally unbalanced wihout having a wide rear :o

Try this thread:

Although the photos aren't working you could try PMing him and seeing if he still has some pics he might be able to show.

Just in case any of you missed these the first thousand times they were posted.
T33 04-06-2003 11:18 PM

Lenyx...
Any chance you'd know where on earth those flares could be found - it's a wild shot in the dark, but I'm curious. They look good and clean.
With all this falre talk, I'd be insterested in having my body shop pain and mount some flares while they're doing some other work.
Any info would be appreciated.

Nope.. those pics appeared in a few threads a loooooong time ago.. but nobody had much info if I recall correctly.
WR xplosive 04-07-2003 11:31 AM

now, thats a nice freakin' flare on a wagon. That kinda reminds me of the Audi allroad quatrro 2.7T

EDIT: I wish the OEM Forester fender flare fits on the Impreza.

Is this on the Outback Sport a fender flare or was it just the paint thats creating a an imaginary flare? I can only find a fender flare part for the Forester.

I think thats the 2 tone creating the fender affect. Not diggin it maybe if the lower part in the center of the car matched the flares.

Silky 04-07-2003 05:41 PM

my precious wagon was involved in an accident last friday. And it happens to be the whole front of the car. I'm going to try and see if I can get the sedan fenders on there.
T33 04-07-2003 07:26 PM

I've got to say, the front fenders look awesome. But without the rear to complement them...hmmm, maybe not. Also, I noticed the wheels on the wagon seem like they're tucked further in the wells...which makes sanse if the sedan has a wider track.
I think you should do the wagon as a wagon, the sedan as a sedan - unless there's some way to resolve the rear...it just doesn't look right.
That's my $0.02 on the matter, but install watchawant.

The only people who will notice the difference are the ones who are obsessed with this board. It's actually a fairly subtle change.

Yeah, the wheels will be slightly narrow for the flares, but at something like 1cm per side I doubt it will be noticeable.

:D :D you think the people you should care about noticing the indifference are the one's who has no idea how and what a wagon should look like? There's a lot of import owners that out there who will know the difference. Afterall, we dont care what grandma sez about our flares right? All we care is what other Import enthusiasts would say about our ride. heck, even Hyundai owners will notice the difference.

but yes, it's your own car and you can do whatever you want.

just my .03 :)
Javabean2 04-08-2003 02:01 PM

Yeah, if you're looking to get noticed by the right crowd, sure :)

I was coming more from the point that doing such a mod would be for personal choices/aesthetics, and not as much "look at my fartcan + 2ft wing" pimp-cruisin :D

But other WRX owners would no doubt do a doubletake!
Silky 04-08-2003 02:17 PM

Good grief...

All this attention to a wagon with a set of sedan fenders and it's not even done yet... Perhaps I won't do it. I'm not one for attention seeing as how I often drive too... ummm spiritedly. But if I do decide to go through with it I doubt anyone will really notice because I have a black wagon... black already makes the car look a good deal slimmer than say a blue or silver one.
