Sale: Harbor Freight US General Alum. race jack, $85 !
This is a notice to all you racer folks out there who need a good light-weight low saddle height race jack for a good deal. A lot of people bring these to autox, track events, etc since they are so easily portable. some of you may remember that this item used to sell over $200 when they first debutted, however over time they have some down significantly. Well, Harbor Freight is having a blowout sale at $89.99, which when used with an online coupon brings the price down to $84.99.

Got to:

Enter item number:
91039-1ada

Add it to you cart along with anything else you want. Since orders over $40 have free shipping, standard shipping is free. Its not very expediant shipping, but it will eventually arrive. ;) Then, at checkout, there is a coupon button.

enter in coupon number:
#421-712-578

This coupon will give an additional $5.00 off, a free cheapo knife set (yay! ) and guranteed free shipping. However, HF likes to charge about $5.00 "handling" fee, so this coupon will sort of cancel out that fee. Thats all.

Never trust your life to a Harbor Freight tool. They're cheap for a reason. Aluminum race jacks they've sold in the past have been prone to having casters fold. They change manufacturers more often than I change underwear, so that may or may not still be a concern.

Make sure you have jackstands.

Ordered one!

That is an absolute must, regardless of wether you have a HF jack or a Lincoln. Jacks themselves are *no* substitute for jack stands--no way, no how, no where.
akuhner 02-04-2004 09:49 AM

These jacks are great for the money, but we did find this weekend at Sno*Drift that they don't work so well below 20 degrees!

I like the 2 peices of wood I drive up on to get the jack to fit underneath the car. :)
elgorey 02-04-2004 10:27 AM

Does anyone know what the warranty on this is?

I believe these are slightly different than the original $200 aluminum jacks. (which may be a good thing)
I bought one when they were 200, and it failed in about 6 months. Now it wont support any weight, just goes back down after pumping up.
RacingBlue 02-04-2004 11:05 AM

Harbor sources much in China. I have a warehouse nearby and I'll try and take a look at them this week and get back. More than likely $85 is what they are worth with H.F. making about 30% GP.

I had that problem until I bled the pump, It's been trouble free for 8 months.

I have bled the pump 4 times. It doesnt do anything.
The hydraulic unit is defective.
gdog 02-04-2004 12:59 PM

That's not the same jack that used to be $200. It's light weight, but it's not a quick-pump jack. They're selling those for around $140.
jerseybrandon 02-04-2004 01:26 PM

I have one of the former $200 ones, love it so far.

bemani 02-04-2004 01:30 PM

Screw that, they want to charge me sales tax. That runs it up to close to $100.
ITWRX4ME 02-04-2004 02:34 PM

I've had one of these for about 10 months and its pretty good. Of course, I paid $139 for it. :furious:

Yeah, I just got mine last month for $130! :( Lots of people in my Region use 'em at autoX... I find the quality to be higher than the POS Craftsman jack it replaced!
trhoppe 02-05-2004 03:34 PM

Just a note. These $89 deals are not the same jack as the $139 one!

$89 jack
-NOT rapid pump
-Minimum saddle height: 3"
-Maximum saddle height: 15-1/8''
-4-5/8'' wide, low profile, single front roller wheel

$139 jack
-rapid pump
-Minimum saddle height: 3-1/2''
-Maximum saddle height: 17-1/2''
-5-3/8'' wide, low profile, single front roller wheel

I asked the same thing before, and I was told..."you aren't lifting the whole car at once, so yes it would be ok" We have this jack in our race trailer, and the only problem we had was with the detachable handle. All I did was drill it out and put a bolt in it.

Right, It is certainly not the same identical jack, however, its a perfectly acceptable substitute. Frankly, i see this jack as being *more* advantageous than the more expensive one. Its the jack that one wou

Right, It is certainly not the same identical jack, however, its a perfectly acceptable substitute. Frankly, i see this jack as being *more* advantageous than the more expensive one. Its the jack that one would want to bring to the track for quick work. Really, the list of features correlates to a list of benefits:

- More compact than its counterpart.
- Extra low saddle height.
- Lower max height, but its not for heavy work and ~2 less inches won't really matter much even if using to put on stands, never mind just lifting the wheels up. (I have a 2.5 ton steel Norco for heavy garage work)
- non-rapid pump = easier to pump.

Of course, your mileage may vary. You may absolutely need that extra 2 inches lift height or the extra 3/4" roller width to justify your purchase, but for me, a jack like this with its features under $100... I couldn't pass it up!

I found this out when I went to my local harbor freight to pick one up. Of course they didn't have the $89 one(damn bait and switch), but after some bargaining I convinced them to give the the $139 jack for $100:disco:

Those are all good features except for the non-rapid pump. I like having the side of the car up off the ground in 2 pumps :)

People that have had these "type" of jacks ($700,$200, $139, $89) have found the design to be faulty and the single wheel at the jacking point rolls over causing the whole jack to roll over...please be careful if you are using this type of jack. The newer design (probably why these are being blown out) has wheels on the outside for more stability.

That happened to our one race in the Paddock once. We had it jacked up from behind, while someone was changing tires and checking brakes, when all of sudden you hear "LOOK OUT" as the car rolled off forward. No body hurt, which is good, and the race car was fine too.
XROLLER 02-09-2004 05:07 PM

SO.....this would not be a good jack in your guys opinon to use for dirt track applications like mine where the infields we go to race at are 100% dirt and have no real "stable" footing?

We use it for mulitiple uses:

Changing tires
tighting suspension bolts while under the car
And anything else we'd have to get to while in the pits

And DILLIGAF you said your tipped foward and dumped the car?
DILLIGAF Racing 02-09-2004 07:02 PM

well it was on grass, and I think it rolled forward. I wouldn't say its the jacks fault, but it did happen to us.
raventare 02-10-2004 10:11 AM

Take the bolt out that holds the "single" wide roller and get a longer grade 10 (metric) bolt that is long enough to bolt on some "outriggers", but they must be strong enough to withstand 4000 lbs...safety factor:D

Anyone using a jack on dirt or grass MUST put a "jacking base" under the jack...1/4" steel 2'x2' would be nice, 3/4"plywood in a pinch:banana:
DILLIGAF Racing 02-10-2004 03:45 PM

we did that, still fell. Oh well stuff happens

Just got notified by Harbor Freight that my FREE knife set was "refunded" (I'm guessing they ran out of them from the promotion already) and the jack is backordered...ugh

Of course, now I have my eye on the 24v cordless impact wrench, too.

Mine arrived yesterday! I opted for the rapid pump silver finish $129.99 unit.

It weighs less than half of my Sears 2 1/2 ton jack (which I can barely move it's so bloody heavy).
