San Remo -- no sticky yet -- Official Thread here!

Spoilers below -- danger!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAgh!
Scoobys were running as "best non-french" and now Tommi's out for not making a time control. :(

Sainz-out, Schwarz out.

Petter's still doing well.:)

Edit: here's what it says about Tommi:(
After a pretty encouraging start, Tommi Makinen's Sanremo Rally is over after the Finn broke the front-left driveshaft of his Subaru Impreza 5km before the start of SS8.
Kingtut R-S 09-20-2002 12:23 PM

Damn!

tommi was in such a great pace.... He must be f.ing furious right now. He just havent had any luck this year.
Hopefully Petter will keep the pace and come from 7th place and can score some more points.

But Pannizzi..... WOW!!! 7 out of 8 stages.. that is impressive.

PD. Hopefully Colin would decide to come to his old home and for 2003 finally we wolud have a complete team...
mordy_2v 09-20-2002 01:22 PM

Mortl is ahead of Rovanperra.

Great: Subaru's "tarmac specialist" is slightly faster on tarmac than Pug's dirt specialist.:o

He was told to finish the rally, and take it easy.
Scoobyslack1 09-20-2002 03:30 PM

nismo240 09-20-2002 03:40 PM

MulletSlayer 09-20-2002 05:44 PM

What happened to Loeb?
driggity 09-20-2002 07:05 PM

I don't see him listed on any of the results pages or the retirements. I guess he's not competing
Coati 09-20-2002 07:50 PM

Yep, just Bug and Puras, it seems.
If there was an announcement that Loeb wasn't going to be there, I missed it, too.
Coati 09-21-2002 11:07 AM

Petter just won a stage, is creeping up the standings and is only a few seconds behind Burns! :D

Edit: OMG two in a row for Petter! In one stage he made up 37 seconds on Panizzi, 22 on Gronholm, and has moved into third place ahead of Burns by 21 seconds.
Woohoo!!:D
Patrick L 09-21-2002 11:52 AM

Make tha 2 stages, 13 & 14 with his win. He's now in 3rd. Closing in on Marcus.
GO SOLBERG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jesse370 09-21-2002 11:57 AM

Atta boy Petter!
rupertberr 09-21-2002 12:37 PM

Cool!

<<The charging Petter Solberg ended Day Two with a flurry setting his second straight fastest stage time and overhauling Richard Burns for third place in the process.

The Subaru driver was in a class of his own on SS14, finishing 13.8s ahead of Markko Martin and 22.1s up on the fastest Peugeot of Marcus Gronholm, who was only fourth quickest.

Burns was a further 0.4s back from his team-mate, meaning that Solberg overturned a 1.5s deficit into a 21s advantage. Martin's performance moved him to within six seconds of the fourth-placed 206.>>:)
Patrick L 09-21-2002 04:32 PM

GO Solberg & Martin, show the 206 drivers who's the boss!!
Shik 09-22-2002 08:25 AM

WOOHOO!!! Petter takes the podium with third! Soooo happy he beat Burns.
MattJP 09-22-2002 10:45 AM

Way to go, Petter!!!
driggity 09-23-2002 12:28 AM
The good thing is that we beat Richard
What a great quote from Petter :D
WRXMaster 09-23-2002 12:31 AM

Peter is the man! I thought this rally would be boring...........its been one of the most on the edge of your seat rallys of this year! I feel that the subarus will do awsome on the 3rd in New Zealand.
YoungWilliams 09-23-2002 12:40 AM

At this point, I just feel sorry for Tommi. The few times his car hasn't let him down, he's made a small mistake that cost him big time. It's almost painful.....

Petter, on the other hand, has been doing spectacular! If he could cut down on those smaller mistakes (the half-spins, jumping the starts), he'll hit the top of the podium before the year is out.

Don't those dang Pugs ever break?!?!

Cheers,
Grant
Dussander 09-23-2002 10:27 AM

The last day of the rally was great to watch. I was sitting on the edge of my seat hoping Petter could hold off Burns. Ah, good stuff.

It doesn't matter if one breaks.:(
They fielded at least 5 WRC cars this time (Gronholm, Panizzi, Robert, Rovanperra and Burns). When was the last time Subaru had the money or inclination to do that?
mordy_2v 09-23-2002 05:00 PM

How about that Sparco girl?  :D

Well, only 2 of those cars can get manuf. points. They have to select which drivers will be run for that.
Jeff 2.5RS 09-25-2002 08:34 PM

While they can still only have two drivers get points, they no longer have to select which two before the race. Now it's just the two fastest drivers get points.
