Should I get the OEM bodykit? part 1

Should I get the OEM bodykit? *pics*
I've got about a week left to get a really good deal on an OEM front and rear lip. Anything bigger than an OEM front lip would scrape everytime I pulled into my garage, so that is my only choice. What ya guys think? Should I go ahead and put the two pieces on or leave it it the way it is?

The front lip is sharp....rear doesn't do much for me aesthetically. I know someone locally who has just the front lip, and I think it looks fine. But I suppose it's all meant to go together, so you might as well.

Thanks for the feedback ZR :)

I like the OEM kit a lot. Very clean/simple.

(Plus, it makes your car look like the original V7 STi)

W+L Subaru is having a big "shootout sale" in the vendor for sale forums. $600 for the F/R lip, maybe $150 extra for the sideskirts? $150 for the strakes.

Got the sideskirts already - didn't know that sale included out of state people  I'll defintely order from them then if I decide to get the kit

Hopefully they still have some in-stock...

Yeah, the strake kits that goes on top of the side skirts looks real good and so does the front lips. The OEM kits keeps the clean looking of the rex while it add aggressive contour shape to the ride. I don't care much about the OEM back pieces because I think it looks a little bit too big plus it's the most expensive pieces. ( it's about $500 if I am not mistaken.) Anyways, good luck!
jacobsen1_ 09-22-2003 08:46 AM

I'm a big fan of the OEM front set up... I would say get that, and maybe the strakes for the side skirts, but as mentioned above skip the rear...

You car looks great in those shots... very nice, and I am a fan of clean white cars...

What exhaust is that? Scoobysport? Looks good and I bet is sounds better!

Does anyone have a picture of the center section of the front body kit? I have an 04 and have soemthing to go between the STi corner splitter I have, and I think it might work, but I need a picture to be sure...

your car looks great now, but the lip would help finish it off I think...

here is a picture from Sat to help you out (not my car):

and here is mine so you can see why I would want the front lip center section:

Thanks for the constructive criticism so far everyone. I had originally liked the rear piece more than the front piece, but now I'm starting to have second opinions about it

I guess it looks different to me - will have to research some more pics of the rear kit some more then I guess :)

Keep the feedback coming so I'll know whether the Subie will have new goodies or not...
WRX 2NV 09-22-2003 09:00 AM

NO
I've got the front and rear OEM kit and really like it. Kind of makes it stand out from all the Granny's who are driving one.
I voted No because I don't want your car to be as sharp as mine.

Steve - thanks for the feedback. I don't know about the strakes - I personally have never been totally sold on them. On some cars, it looks good, but then on some others, they look kind of funky. Either the angles of the pics did more of the eye trickery or my eyes are just going way out of whack. Chinese slant eyes will do that from time to time

IMHO the OEM is the best looking WRX body kit I have seen. Like was mentioned earlier - it makes it look like the v7 STi...:disco:

OEM lip kits
Hi,
I'm a nOOb to the subie scene but I have always been a fan of OEM lip kits, they maintain a clean look that other gaudy body kits can't offer. Depending on deals they can be a little expensive for what they are, BUT if you want nice, quality things, sometimes you have to pay a little more ("you get what you pay for")
Anyway, I most indubetly think you should go with the OEM lip kit will add great factory style, although I think the strakes are a little ricey looking (i personally would stay away from those...just my 2 cents)

good luck with the kit
Michael

Thanks Michael :) I also thought the strakes were a teeny bit on the gaudy side, but at times I think they look kind of nice. I really hope these two pieces will make the look of my car better - and most importantly...I hope the front lip won't scrape going into my garage

HEY GUYS I GOT A DIGI CAM!!!!!! i can take pics tommorow but i need someone to host them!

later steve

I have a 02 With full factory body kit. front & rear lip side skirts & strakes
silverF4turbo 09-26-2003 11:28 PM

I would have to say yes but only because the kit would go well with those oh-so-clean rims. I like the strakes too... they make the sideskirts flow very nicely into the oem rear lip.

Hank3 09-28-2003 12:11 AM

Looks great Steve!!! Glad you finally got them up. The only gripe (I don't think it's actually a gripe) I have with the OEM kit is the middle-darkened section. I know it looks nice since it's contrasted, but in a lot of pics you can hardly see that there's even a middle section so the front and rear lip wind up looking like it's missing something when it's there all along. I guess when I get mine on, I'll see how it looks and may eventually paint the middle sections down the line. In anycase, I still dig the OEM kit and glad I got it - especially at the price I got them for :D

Looks pretty good - a teeny bit on the dark/grainy side. May have just been your setting :)
