show your dash kits

if you have any. i'd like to see some different ones. i'm not a big fan of the c/f dash from subaru ( looks like cheap c/f imitation plastic - big quality difference compared to the c/f of my motorcycle exhaust ). has anyone done a real aluminum dash kit instead of the colored plastic the stock car tries to imitate? i thought i saw some pics before of some color matched dash kits too. anything else out there thats cool? show me your dash kits ;)
Basshead 11-12-2001 09:30 PM

there is no one that makes a decent dash kit for our cars..that is why so many people are breaking out the spray paint and having at em, it looks better...it sucks

What do you have next to the crappy cupholder in the dead zone?
SAW 11-13-2001 12:44 AM

Where did you get that kit?
bsquare 11-13-2001 12:47 AM

That's a Challenger Deep kit. Most delicious.
Jasno999 11-13-2001 07:45 AM

What is the website to get that kit on and how much does it cost?
Rebellion 11-13-2001 08:14 AM

Subie Gal 11-13-2001 09:11 AM

Geez Jamie,
I've seen you post about safety before - why in the world would you remove your standard steering wheel to go bag less?
Rebellion 11-13-2001 10:28 AM

probably because she rallys? don't want airbags going off during that do ya?
Subie Gal 11-13-2001 10:28 AM

MANY reasons...

i am much safer w/no airbag 8" from my chest, neck and face

i am 5' tall...
weigh..... well i dont weigh that much :D

and i have to sit very, very close to the steering wheel to reach the clutch...

so... it's in my best interest (and i have the proper Fed paperwork too) to turn off... or swap out the airbag....

there are exceptions to the rule...

azza matter of fact, when i totalled my GT...
the officer on site said... and i quote
"geez.... good think you took that airbag out...."
he said i would have been munched, likely injured -
in an accident that i walked away from with only bruises...

airbags are a necessity for most
but a hazard to some...

i am one of those exceptions i guess...
it's my moms fault i am so tiny!
she's only 4' 10"

;)

Stallion 11-14-2001 02:55 AM

Please someone post pics of a yellow carbon fiber kit on a WRX, you would make my freggin day! I cant decide between that or the titanium.

Rick

PS: how did you mold your dash like that?!
Joncas 11-14-2001 09:52 PM

Well you learn something new everyday. Thanks Jamie ;)

my bad. I forgot that "attach" works differently in this webforum from what I had in mind. Here it is, as long as the server is up, it should be ok:

Hey JBPolkAudio...how did you get the setup around your crossover? I have the Alpine 7977 and still trying to figure out how I wanna fill the hole up underneath it. However it was done, it looks mighty sweet!!
JBPolkAudio 11-15-2001 10:45 PM

grandmasterchan: Na, that's the "King" momo shift knob. Got it off ebay (new) for pretty cheap

travman733: Thanks! A little wood and body filler, and a lot of sanding. I keep meaning to post a short of step-by-step thing, but I'm a lazy bastard. Basically I just cut out a piece of wood and molded it into the plastic with body filler, then sanded the whole thing, and then painted it. I had to re-paint the top vents because it didn't match perfectly.

lgkahn - Do yourself a favor and go buy the hard wire kit for your radar detector. No point in having that big ugly cord detract from your dash kit :)

PS - That blue looks pretty sweet on the doors.. don't know if I like it on the console though.
mrbell 11-16-2001 12:02 AM

Hey, guys with the paint... how is that holding up for you? I've thought about it, but I don't want it to get screwed up and look worse... also, has anyone thought about painting the faces of the A/C and the radio?
