Steering wheel

I have a MY04 WRX and just hate the stock steering wheel. Looking to get a 350mm or 330mm steering wheel for the street. I just want a fat grip, and cheap price. What would you say is the cheapest I probably could spend. And what other things must I buy to get the steering wheel to work with the car? A hub mount? How do I turn off the ABS light?

Anybody? Will a steering wheel like these two fit? What all will I need?

I'd get one with an airbag.

I don't want one with an airbag. Does anybody know if this will fit, or will I need to buy something else. I just want to buy a decent looking 3 spoke that is lightweight.

In my previous car i put a 320mm momo commando wheel (not cheep). I found that it was a bit to small for my liking, i suppose its personal prefference. Im not sure what the quality of that specific wheel is. Im pretty sure you will need to buy a hub kit to install it. thats all i needed when I installed my momo one, but the car didnt have an airbag to begin with, so i cant say 100%. Im not sure how to turn off the abs light.

Where can I get teh right hub kit to use with one of this 6 bolt pattern steering wheels.

If you get a Momo wheel, you can get a Daikei hub, also known as a Boss hub or Splash hub. It comes with everything you need to retain your horn and turn signal cancellors as well as a resistor for the airbag. It doesn't come cheap though. For my entire steering wheel setup of Momo Race wheel, Splash hub, and Splash QR hub, it cost me around $550. Without the QR, you're still looking around $400.

What is the difference between the splash hub and Splash QR hub? I don't really care about the turn signal cancel, I just want the airbag resistor thing and I want the steering wheel to fit.

Will that work for what I need?
If not can you link me to the place to get the Splash hub? or the Splash QR hub?
BTW this is the wheel I will be getting: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7996508313&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AAAQ%3AUS%3A1

man, steering wheel is one of the most important pieces in the car...please dont put that crappy ebay junker in a wrx. theres plenty of momo/sparco wheels out there for the car and you can use a sparco hub with either of them.

Clearly you haven't been in an accident with an airbag. I've had 2 go off when I was rear ended and sideswiped and I made sure I removed the airbag in my next car. I actually got more injuries from the airbag than the impact.
If you wear your seatbelt an airbag will only help with whiplash as well as helping break your neck/nose.

My car didn't even have an airbag originally.
I just replaced my HORRID stocker with the momo one from a JDM TT Legacy.

i've been lookin into doing the same thing. Just do your research. There are some ****ty quick release hubs out there... and my reccomendation is fork out the cash and get a decent wheel. That's the thing you're going to be using most in your car.
I'm probably going to get the sparco 323 (i think that's it) the full suede racing one w/o the center horn button, then i was gonna put on that little horn button add on thing there. it's pretty much the same price.
I don't know the specifics, but if you do some research i'm sure u can find the right sized resistor to solder into the the abs wire to make the light go out.
good luck, i agree w/ u on the stock wheel. in my sparco seat i sit so much lower, the wheel seems enormous. it becomes a hinderance when autocrossing.

Hurts you more in small accidents maybe, but in big accidents it will save your life... I wouldn't get rid of my airbag unless I had a full roll cage, and 4 points...
<------- Has been in head on colision with airbag and did not get hurt at all...

There's a reason airbags are in passenger cars. They save lifes. Yes in small accidents they may burn you, break a nose but in a highspeed accident would you want an airbag or your face into the dash?
| IBAUCLAPlaya | 09-01-2005 03:04 PM |
CNK can you give me the link where you bought that hub w/ the resistor?

AIrbags scare me because as a technician I am under the dash alot. the airbag systems in vehicles today can still go off even if the airbag system has been properly shut off. the reason for this is because of powerful capacitors car companies are using in their airbag modules and ECMs. noty only that but many airbag sensors have inertia switches that when hit hard enough can set off an aribag. so the question is do you like having an airbag go off right in you face when working on the car or would you rather live. there are many technicians in this country each year who die of this and many times it is not technician error. I have been in an accident wiht airbags but aribags are not built for all body types. I took mine out because every once in awhile my girlfirend drives my car. she is short and the airbag could cause a danger to her if it were to go off.

im not saying dont swap the wheel....i have a sparco in my 240 and i had one in my spec v too. im not a fan of airbags myself. im also putting a momo in the wrx, what im saying is if your so concerned about safety dont buy a $20 pos ebay wheel. you dont know how well it was made or tested and it could easily break in an accident and do more damage than any airbag. think about it. buy something proven already.
| twizzstyle | 09-01-2005 03:47 PM |
Personally I wouldn't go without an airbag, I was very recently in a pretty bad accident, and yeah the airbag burnt me bad, but no big deal.
But that aside.... please don't get that Ebay wheel. Nothing to do with airbags, that wheel looks like a total piece of crap. It's all plastic. Looks VERY cheap, and especially horrible with the fake STi logo.
If you're going to replace the only thing that connects you to your car other than your pedals, spend the money on something nice.

I like the looks of this wheel alot. If I get it, and it is a piece of ****, I will just send it back, they have a refund policy, I just called them. I like the looks better than the Momos and Sparcos, plus it is $150 less than most of them, at least. I am going to buy a good hub adapter (http://www.japanparts.com/shop/shop.cgi?mode=itemlist&maker=Subaru&type_car=Impreza+WRX+2004%2f2003&type_second=Interior+and+Exterior&type_third=Steering%2fShifting) the one at the bottom. Then if I don't like this wheel, I will trash it and maybe buy a new one. This one is made of leater and aluminum, not plastic.

I agree. If you are going to get rid of the airbag, make sure you have a good quality wheel that isn't going to break and be yet another hazard in an accident.
That's why I went with the wheel I did. I could have gotten an eBay special wheel cheaper (I got my JDM wheel through eBay), but I chose to go with a good quality wheel put by Subaru into their high-performance cars.

You're clearly smarter than those pesky electrical and mechanical engineers who design vehicle safety systems. Maybe you should go work for them and show them how things are done.

Shift key broken? Oh wait, you used it every now and then, nevermind.
This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. Do you, like, think before you post?
You would think that maybe there's a reason there's an airbag in there. You know, maybe to save lives? Have you done a lot of research on human anatomy? Done a lot of crash testing in your days? You have life-like dummies of all shapes and sizes to test out in your backyard?
That's what I thought. Now be quiet.

how will you decide whether or not the ebay wheel is crap? will you test it up against a momo/sparco wheel? theres a reason its so cheap, its crap and i would shake my head and laugh at anyone that put a fake $20 wheel in their $25k car. its about safety, and frankly ALL the momo/sparco wheels look better than that.
